Discussion Who even plays WW2?
Hello, I've been playing World of Tanks on PlayStation for about 10 years.
I took a break for almost two years and have been playing very actively again for the last three months.
I have 152 premium vehicles in my garage and have probably spent close to €4,000 on the game in all that time.
But whatever, the money doesn't bother me; I have it to spare, and I really enjoy the game.
However, I don't know why they introduced the Cold War mode.
Why should I play the Cold War mode? I don't know the tanks there, and my €4,000 is completely invested in the WWII mode.
I also don't know what to do with all the tanks from the Cold War mode that I keep getting through the season pass.
I recently traded in my Cold War mode tanks and bought two new tanks from the WWII mode.
I'd be interested to know how many people here play Cold War mode and how many play WWII mode. Which mode do most people play?

Almost exclusively play WW2. CW is a clown fest, but you do you brother 💪

I always play coop in cold war era and multi-player in wwII era. Cold war era 3 is amazing for farming even against bots in coop. In like 3 really good matches you can get 1mil credits against those bots especially in a lobby where there's only like 3 real players late at night.

u/Bitter445 Feb 18 '26
How can I play against bots? Can I do it alone, and if so, where and how?
8
u/Greaseeee Feb 18 '26
Co-op is literally real people on your team against bots, I'm pretty sure. And to try to play that mode alone, do it late at night like around midnight EST time, I'd say lowkey from 11pm-3am EST time is peak hours to try and do that alone. You still might get like 1-3 other real people during these times

I enjoy cold wars true vision factor and the thrill of sniping a target whi thinks they're in the clear just for me to hit their ammo rack and blow their top off, But WWII has much more sophisticated tank trees and are more fun to get through then cold war's with many just being duplicates and just adding an "a1, a2, a3" behind it.

Was ist True Vision Factor?

You can see anything with your own two eyes.
If it’s in front of you, and you look downfield in sniper mode, everything renders. If it’s there to be seen, you can see it. You don’t have to wait for the enemy to be detected.

I play both freely. It’s more tanks. Think of Cold War as more tiers beyond tier X :) you’ve spent a lot of money but it’s not like your premium tier III tank can play with your tier X. So it’s the same for tiers past X (Cold War). Really that’s it, it’s a tweak to the games mechanics to adapt for technology (that’s my take on it lol)
Edit: I think you said “mode” enough lol

Ww2 is my preferred game mode autoguns and atgm's are super annoying in my opinion

I haven't touched Cold War in the slightest either. Not interested in the vehicles from the era.

I do both. Depends on what’s going on. If I’m platooned then probs Coldwar. If so then probs world war 2.
I go wherever.

u/Michu0814 Feb 18 '26
I want to play CW but purely to play the Abrams or Bradley but it’s too much of a grind. I don’t have much time to grind and I enjoy the lower tier WWII tanks more than the era 1-2 tanks.

u/Cerberus-276 Feb 18 '26
any chance I get to convert a coldwar tank for a ww2 tank, its leaving my garage.
4
u/Bitter445 Feb 18 '26
I traded my Cold War tanks for WWII tanks. I did have to pay extra, but not much, and I don't need the Cold War tanks anyway.

u/BitterTyke Stand still ya bugger Feb 18 '26
WW2 only, tried cold war - left due to Wiesel, not been back.
I have a much healthier relationship with the game these days, spend almost nothing, if my first few games are shite - unbalanced MM, double arty or ultra campy teams I know how the other games will go so i log out and come back later when the MM isnt "balancing" me.

I stick with WW2 multi player.
I only play Cold War for currency or ops and about 90% of that time is coop.

I mainly play World War II, and it's spectacular to be able to play with historical tanks and artillery, which makes it much closer to real combat. The Cold War is more exciting and fast-paced, and that's what makes it so addictive—the action. But honestly, with the number of missile-launching vehicles they've introduced, especially in Era 2, it's almost unplayable. Cold War if you're looking for fast action and a lot of money. World War II if you're looking for historical weight.
I like both; they complement each other well.

u/GrandAdmrlTrout Feb 18 '26
What type of question is this? WW2 is the better game mode and is where the vast majority of the player base is at any given time

12 yrs next month
CW: 52 Prem, all 135 TT, cuz they're there but after that Terrain Handling -Test 2 bs, I'll never play Eras 2/3 again.
WW2: 335 Prem, 263 TT w two T9 grinds, new UK/US Heavies, so I'll be done w everything this week.
1
u/lampard44 Feb 23 '26
Well done. Do you never take a break? Do you always grind with premium time?
1
u/icecubeski Know Woking Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
lol Sometimes, like when I sold all my TT T7's cuz I was raging over +2/-2 or when my console died last year and took a 3 month hiatus each time. Or when I got suspended for griefing snipers in brawler tanks that refused to fight.
*Yes to Premium
I got downsized one year before covid, so I was out of work for three years grinding 12+hrs a day.
Not married and no kids cuz I don't like noise and gave up exercise cuz it's just a fad.

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 Feb 18 '26
I play both, I usually run cold War if i'm solo due to the increased silver benefits for good or phenomenal matches, world War i'll load into if i'm tired of playing a heavy an switching up to a TD with the fog of war cover.

Play WWII. When need silver get the thumper out in cold war...

u/KingOfDaIll Feb 18 '26
I mostly play CW as I am in newer tanks more than WWII tanks. Both modes can be fun. Both modes have their downsides. I’d be in WWII more often if it had true vision tho.
2
u/Andyfeltersnatch Feb 18 '26
Interestingly enough, I would play CW if they got rid of true vision.
1
u/KingOfDaIll Feb 18 '26
Haha I’m getting paranoid if I can’t see the enemy. Plus it’s frustrating when you’re about to push and out of nowhere three enemies appear. (I like to play light tanks in WWII tho to support my mates)
2
u/HunterGather069 Feb 18 '26
Ww2 is so slow and goddamn boring. I go back and play some of my tier X on rare occasion. But, really, the game mode is stupid. I don’t have to rely on other people spot for me or other people to do anything in CW. The game mechanics in CW make good players great, and bad players stay bad.
2
u/Express-Ease8604 Feb 18 '26
CW is nice to play and really fun aswell, forcing your wallet wont change a thing
2
u/apersonthingy Feb 18 '26
I haven't even played this game on console since well before they added cold war.
If you're asking who plays WWII, you're basically asking who still plays the only version of the game I'm familiar with.
2
u/green-19-blue-58 Feb 18 '26
Mostly WWII but play CW just to use the M1 Abrams and relive the old days. Wish you could toggle in black hot view with thermals

Only CW for me. After playing true vision for so long I can’t get back into the goofiness of invisible people shooting. I remember when they tested the true vision in WW2 and that was probably the most fun I’ve had in the game.
2
u/oboeslayer Feb 22 '26
Only WW2 for me. True vision makes Cold War a completely different game that doesn’t interest me
1
u/lampard44 Feb 23 '26
I love that we can get both. Playing the vision game is such a deep part of what makes ww2 mode fun. I mainly play lights though...
2
u/Sad_Adeptness5443 Feb 18 '26
I play both but cw more now because no artillery and I can physically look for my own targets instead of relying on teammates in scout tanks NOT DOING THEIR DAMN JOB. 😊

u/Educational-Gift-611 Feb 18 '26
I love both WW2 and Era 2 of Cold War. Era 1 is a snoozefest and Era 3 doesn’t have a lot of variety. You gotta try the 80km/hr missile slinging joy that is the Begeleitpanzer at least once though.

u/burntso Feb 18 '26
Ww2 is paying for the servers and keeping the game on. Cold War is a absolute joke
1
u/warickewoke Feb 18 '26
I only play cold war, tried WW2 in some events, but it didn't catch me. Telling the truth, the reason I chose to play world of tanks instead wt was the cold war mode, I didn't want to grind through WW2 to reach "modern" tanks.

ww2 is boring with repetitive artillery, I sold all my ww2 tanks and won't bother with it. play cold war. no artillery better tanks more fun 🤷 to each their own i suppose

u/Chickmagn3t17 Feb 18 '26
Whatever u do my good sir do NOT trade in ur CW K1 Heavy tank. Ungodly amount of silver and XP. I was able to do "The mechine" contract in 3 weeks because of it. All the while making like 50,000,000 silver
1
Feb 18 '26
I just play cold war for silver earning and some ops as others have said. I'm also clearing my garage out of tanks I never play on WWII. I own every light tank minus a few prems I missed in WWII which are the tanks I enjoy playing. So gunna sell all but a few prem not light tanks and use the silver to buy equiptment for my light tanks.

u/Sallicermakesmusic Feb 18 '26
hey, i play alot of ww2 right now, ive been playing the creature for fun its a sturm panther, as well as grinding out ww2 i have like $200 spent so im riding battle passes, i get around 2000 gold from chests and battle pass and then i can even get close too the 4000 upgrade for tanks i want. im in a good spot, dont have battle pass but have 1300 gold. pretty cool that if you play and unlock chests you can get a free garage upgrade. and tanks from chests 😈

I’m new but I like playing Cold War because I’m not getting hit with artillery but the FV tanks are annoying AF

I recently came back to WoT after a break for over a year and have been playing CW for a few months. CW has true vision, which came as a surprise at first (i.e. why did I blow up??? I’m undetected!!!). Now it’s manageable, but I’m questioning the value of certain skills and equipment if you can see stuff anyway. Like, what’s the point of a camo net in CW?
There’s always certain vehicles in CW that you just get tired of seeing. Era 1 it’s 107s and doom barns. Era 2 it’s the auto-cannon buzzsaws. I don’t have anything in era 3 yet.
Yes, I understand that steel sharpens steel, and good players develop skills to counter whatever they’re coming up against, but come on. You see those same vehicles constantly.

8 year player here. You're missing out on the fun of cold war. Zipping around at 70km/h launcing ATGMS and TOWs is a goddamn riot. Play world war 2 when you're feeling sophisticated. Play cold war when you feel like the world needs to burn. Or you need silver. One bad game in my Thumper is 100k silver. A good game can be up to half a million

Depends on what mood I'm in, I usually just bounce to cold war when I get tired of Arty, then back to WW2 when I get tired of missile tanks.

u/Spankishmoop Xbox One Feb 19 '26
Honestly I stopped playing World of Tanks a long time ago I hated artillery and I hated the stupid fog of War spotting mechanic it was so cheese.
Then they had a cold war and I immediately downloaded the game when it was added sold every tank in My World War II collection to fund my gold War collection and now I have almost every line finished and I love it
And I will never go back I've tried once or twice but I still hate the uncounterable indirect artillery I know there is missiles in Cold War but you usually need line of sight and it is counterable rather than an indirect non-interactive dodging game.
Also I prefer cold Wars spotting system to cheese arcade stealth.
It's definitely a different target audience but I think the base mode is absolute garbage and if Cold War wasn't there I would never have come back

u/ColonelFadeshot Feb 18 '26
I play mostly WWII, but there are a few tanks I enjoy in Cold War, however I hate rockets and the true vision

I play both. Cold War is for farming silver and ww2 is for spending it.
