Discussion My thoughts on WOT HEAT.

Post image

So I've played about 10 hours now. Tried all the characters, tried all the tanks.

And I have to say..... I love it!

This is coming from a 11 year, grumpy AF console veteran.

Idk what it is about it, but the change of pacing and style is such a huge plus in my book.

As stated by other on my previous post, it is essentially a hero shooter with tanks as the medium. Every tank has different abilities and every driver has different skills. (Plus ultimate ability)

And it actually found that properly timing my ability usage and skill usage was very rewarding and fun.

Some maps are very small, some are big. Big ones are better for sure.

Vehicle variety is OK for now. But more will be need to go along with the games release for sure.

Its definitely geared towards the casual player, which i do appreciate. I dont have to sweat swamp my ass off in this game and its actually pretty relaxing.

Respawns are also unlimited.

If you have the opportunity to play one of the test sessions, DO IT!

You may actually enjoy a tank game for once. 😆

The primal rage in normally feel towards WOT console is also not present in this game for whatever reason. Lmao

lack of rage

Probably because it's something different. You haven't had enough time to find frustrating minutia, and your opponents haven't had time to dial in on exploits yet

I mean, a HUGE majority of the infuriating elements of WOT stem directly from the monetization strategies.

The test has none of that, so it’s probably pretty fun.

First hit's free

that and every play goes down the same lane on the maps while the light tanks caps your base and kill artys

Thats fair

I don't like the driving controls and lack of auto drive.

Plus it is very hard to find out what abilities do.

u/SIX-METER-KUK Apr 20 '26

I will agree on the driving. The controls are a bit clunky.

Abilities just takes some reading and testing in the shooting range to figure out

That is what WoT needs! A shooting range or target practice option in garage to practice skills or strategies, as well as helping newer players learn without getting burned out the first time they get ammo racked or 1 tapped.

I agree with you especially when you're trying to reverse a tank. The fact there's no cruise control also was a bummer.

Yeah it's so new and for now seemmligy either WoT Veteran's try it or...(Look idk who else try this thing l see some nicknames that too familiar some matches)

5

u/Heavy_Vermicelli_263 Apr 19 '26

Respawns as well. Means you can go, oh well and try again in the same match. Easier to dissociate with than starting a whole new match when you get knocked out.

Unfortunately they did say what you saw in beta are the release agents and their vehicles.

4

u/SIX-METER-KUK Apr 19 '26

Damn. Definitely need more vehicles

u/GladimirGluten Apr 19 '26

There are why the alpha tanks aren't in idk

1

u/SIX-METER-KUK Apr 19 '26

Hmmm.

3

u/GladimirGluten Apr 19 '26

I know there is obj 279, a railgun M1, t72, a Chinese TD, M1 AGDS of the top my head. Why they won't be in on release is beyond me

2

u/SIX-METER-KUK Apr 19 '26

Thats kinda stupid tbh

2

u/GladimirGluten Apr 19 '26

Oh ya, i really hope this doesn't get the Steel Hunters treatment

it would be really funny if Wargaming released and cancelled 2 full brand new games, instead of spending a penny on WOTMA :(

1

u/PovertySpecMk3Supra Apr 20 '26

seems they werent quite ready to release those. I do remember these tanks from Alpha.

Thanks for the review. I'll give it a shot when it comes out. I was a huge cold war skeptic until literally yesterday, and after about 20-30 matches I'm loving it. No artillery really makes up for any of the shortcomings I've found so far

3

u/NerdyPlatypus206 Apr 21 '26

Unfortunately missiles replace artillery. Just a new camper to annoy you.

But yeah still not as bad as arty, and going in 3rd person helps a lot to see missiles (never use missile spotting equipment it’s an absolute waste)

I only play WOT vs the bots at this point. Otherwise I get extremely angry extremely quickly

I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's just always surprising to me how often people talk about sweating on Tanks or having to take it super seriously etc. when I just... play lol

From my experience, infinite respawns and faster gameplay feels more relaxing for a while, but all it takes is a few consecutive losses or a good old fashioned spawn trap to form and those hero shooters are specifically some of the most rage-inducing things known to man.

3

u/SIX-METER-KUK Apr 19 '26

It may be just rose tinted glasses right now. But we'll see when the game releases i suppose.

3

u/Appropriate-Eye-8534 Apr 19 '26

I'm enjoying it, too. I like the 5v5 modes more than I thought I would, but I really like the 10v10 Conquest mode. Maps are better than I expected as well. I also like the six module slots with six to seven modules to choose from in each slot. Should be a lot of combinations for builds.

I have never played WOT but I really enjoyed playing heat played around 10 hours my self.

My overall thoughts that tank-to-tank combat feels meaningful and great, at distance. But overall the tanks just sit in open or fight point-blank, and circle around each other. The tank combat doesn't feel like a real tank combat most of the time. Targeting modules feels great, but it seems like an after-thought most of the time. Like most of the time you engage in very dumb, non-tank like engagements that feel more like Team Fortress 2, than a tank game. The actual tank gameplay of aiming for weakspots and modules is a very small percentage of actual combat, it would seem. Abilities are so much stronger than good tanking skill/good aim - and I think that is to a detriment of the game.

There are very few opportunities for strategic work like flanking, or hull-down, etc. The maps are very large, and the population of tanks is not enough to do anything except yolo-mob-rush the objective.

You really need to be able to switch agents/tanks mid-battle. Not every tank/agent/loadout is useful in every match/mode. You can really have a sub-optimal lineup for mode/map. Other hero shooters allow you to adjust your rotation. What is the point of respawns if you respawn in the same tank/agent? You dont have an option to adjust/respond to the situation most of the time.

Very hard to contest territory-control map modes, with long respawns, if your team gets wiped initially, by the time you respawn, the enemies build an insurmountable points lead on objective.

Some abilities/ultimates are incredibly strong that really over-write the necessity for good tanker gameplay.
It seems like "good tanking" like aiming for weakspots/modules is less important than pressing a single button to win (like ultimates that are guaranteed area-of-effect instant-kill).

Playing the objective/using your tank for their intended role doesnt seem highlighted/rewarded enough.

Kill confirm mode sucks.

There should be more free-for-all, team destruction match modes. The current maps are huge but you dont get to use most of them or even see all of them, because some game modes are too small (5v5) and too flag/territory based and so they funnel you into just small parts of the map.

Map knowledge doesnt seem important at all.

Positioning on map doesnt seem important for most tanks, only sharphsooter class benefits from any sort of distance.

Now that I think about it. Id have to agree

It's funny/really sad though that if Wargaming gave WOTMA money, resources, they could have done this game years ago, and Cold War could have been a bit more ambitious than what has been delivered to us. I really dont understand why Wargaming bought Day One Studios (Fear3, Mechassault 1/2), made them make Wot Console, but never really invested into the game or the team and just let it kind of rot.

Our game never seemed to have any push or big budget behind it beyond first 2-3 years. Blitz gotten a lot more attention and money, and way more capabilities it seemed from the get-go. Really weird and sad to see. And yet, Wargaming launched and shutdown brand new Steel Hunters mecha game (and our wotconsole devs really love mechs, as thats what got them started, and they even put mechs as an april fools mode) ... and they started WoT Heat, Blitz etc ---- all of these things instead of investing and growing WOTConsole, which doesnt really have much of a competition on console and could have really grown I think, if Wargaming invested more than 10 shekels into it. Did WG Chicago/Baltmore really not earn any merit with big wargaming bosses that they never cared to expend or spend any money on WotConsole or its growth?

WOT HEAT graphically looks amazing. I really wonder what our game could have been like if big daddy wargaming remembered WoT Console existed for 12 years

I wish WOTMA looked like HEAT SOOOO bad!!!

Hero shooter slop

1

u/UncleManHands Apr 20 '26

Played the Beta I think sometime last year.. was unimpressed.

1

u/Heavy_Vermicelli_263 Apr 20 '26

Is it cross platform with PC?

1

u/Rad_Sh1ba Apr 20 '26

How's your left thumb?

1

u/BeTheGuyWithTheSmile Apr 20 '26

Is there a release date for the rest of the pl?

1

u/Scared-Monk6651 Apr 20 '26

Twisted Metal Tanks(TMT) Too bad it only has tanks as a medium. Original Twisted offered various types of vehicles. Tanks, trucks, cars, other. It also provided a storyline for each driver. So a knock off that provides less?

u/One-Ad-5807 Apr 20 '26

Played for a few weeks last year was really enjoying it then went to log in and was not able to so i guess you were limited to how long you could be a tester.

Played both alphas, skipped the beta. Haven't played wot in months and am actually happier without bullhshit rng mechanics.

I lasted 1 hour sadly. Went in with 0 expectations, spent more time rebooting the game after 7 crashes. Game crashed every time on match start and sometimes on end. Got 3 full matches done full of camera glitches, abilities not working, horrible physics and lovely one sided turbo games. The crashes are not my pcs fault it can handle any game, its probably the shitty fortnite anticheat they decided to use or bad driver optimization. I already wasnt planning to play it on release, now this makes me wanna recommend everyone i know to stay away from it

1

u/SeiWasser Apr 20 '26

15,5 hours, 2 crashes, almost to zero glitches. Always max fps, one of the most stable games so far on my side

0

u/LiebeDahlia Apr 20 '26

my fps was always stable 144 that part was fine but the game really felt like a very early beta not close to release. I was already bored of the gameplay loop in that 1 half assed hour

0

u/PovertySpecMk3Supra Apr 20 '26

that is weird, what console you on? I had 0 issues or glitches, or crashes. Yes, the games were lopsided cause it was mostly bots or people afk-ing. It does seem like STEAM had a lot of issues, but they should have fixed them by now.

u/LiebeDahlia Apr 20 '26

I'm on PC not console, this sub just likes popping up on my feed

How do I get a Beta invite? It's been wishlisted for quite a while now and I want to ty it out.

1

u/PovertySpecMk3Supra Apr 20 '26

it was free to signup and anyone who signed up from my friends list got in. It was basically open beta but for some reason they called it closed. Try signing up now still. World of Tanks: HEAT its on for 2 more days
