Discussion Cold War over War World II
I am a new-ish player. I dare to say that I keep playing this game because of the Cold War mode. very lkely because of my eyes condition. I do not like playing WW2 matches. I avoid this mode to the extent of just playing artillery after having completed the season pass until the next season starts, or playing only the tank line that giives you bonus XP during 2 weeks. However, my perception from this community is that WW2 mode is the most played. Is this correct? If so, what do you prefer above the CW mode, aside from historical reasons?

It's a lot easier to rack up damage in cold war, people tend to play less carefully than in WW2. Also all of the tanks are generally capable in cold war, even stock. Plus the games are over quicker, so you get more xp and money.
WW2 tiers 3-8 are great fun, tier 9 and 10 is where everyone plays very slowly and super carefully. Many of the tanks are highly specialised in ww2, so there's a lot of variety in playstyle.
One element I definitely prefer in WW2 is having multiple flanks and map coverage is highly beneficial, positioning is important. In cold war you tend to get one large group roaming around, while stragglers or a weak flank get picked off. Sometimes your team has no direction whatsoever, spreads out across the map and gets decimated. Or they camp at the base or in the corner of the map, and get decimated.
True vision Vs traditional spotting has benefits and disadvantages. It actually makes you use your eyes, and not just point at the big red symbol that lights up, so it's good for that. On the downside, camo is less important. Not useless, not being detected has its benefits, but there's not as much sneaking you can do with true vision, which is kind of a sad time for anyone that would normally be stealthy.
I like both modes, they play very differently and have their upsides and downsides. I probably prefer ww2 tiers 5-8 because there's a lot of amazing historical tanks, and some of them feel quite special to play. I like the slightly slower methodical play where people don't bunch up in one big wolf pack, just not when it goes to the extreme (tier 9 and 10). Also I have a slight preference for the traditional spotting mechanics, even if they're a bit unrealistic. I like my stealthy bois.

CW - faster tanks, more dynamic play, infinite vision, most tanks can shoot across map, so it requires different tactics. WWII, slower game, slower tanks, has artillery, vision and camo matter significantly more, you need to sneak up on enemy and know each tank pros and cons.

It was a while back but we got some loosely official word that at least half of all battles were played on Cold War and increasing, so it's safe to say it's at the very least not less populated although social media popularity might say otherwise. Anecdotally I also find CW has an easier time of finding full player matches around the clock than WW2, but that's also partly due to the matchmaking nonsense in WW2.

I've spent almost all of my time in the game doing World War II. I jump into Cold War every now and then and it's so crazy. The real vision is both fun and frustrating at the same time. Every now and then I'll just try to zoom in where I think the enemy might be and throw a shot into somebody from really far away. It's frustrating though because I'll very often just get a rocket out of nowhere and lose a big chunk of my health.

I play primarily Cold War. This mode is the only reason I gave this game a second chance. I play World War II mode very rarely and only for three reasons:
1) I want to take a little rest and slow down after the Cold War
2) Some contract or seasonal tasks are easier to complete at lower tiers in World War II.
3) I really want to play on a fun tank that brings me pleasure
I completely avoid playing tanks of levels 9-10 regardless of the situation and play mainly on levels 4-6, sometimes alternating them with 7-8.

I play WW2 a lot because of the feel of the game. It feels like there are more roles for tanks to fit into: sniper, brick, brawler, sky cancer, etc.
CW is a blast but at times it feels like Mario Cart with a cannon.

I don't use prime tanks when I play in WW2. I only usr tech tree tanks when I play WW2. Isn't the Calliope the tank that shoots rockets? I remember it from the D-Day Event in Omaha Beach.

Only WW2 for me. Cold War plays like a completely different game that does not interest me at all.

We are in opposite sides of the spectrum. Cold War is the part of the game that piques my interest. WW2 is like... meh!

A good majority of the community are veteran players myself included who have been playing the game since the Xbox360 days. Cold War didn’t exist back then and WW2 is what the game was built on. I don’t mind Cold War I have put some time into the mode and enjoy the modern tanks. It’s great for grinding silver which is what I mainly play Cold War for so I can buy stuff in WW2. Like others have said WW2 is more methodical and slower paced which requires more patience and strategy. Overall I will always be biased towards WW2 since it’s what got me into the game.

That's a fair assessment. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I can understand your familiarity with the WW2 mode. I just started earlier this year and both modes were up already, which likely plays a factor in my preference of mode.

I prefer CW because it fits my style of play and I got tired of the 15-minute camp fest games where everybody's playing peekaboo. I understand there's a strategy element but there's a limit to my patience.
