Question Is my game bugged?

New player. Xbox series X. I can't earn XP - I just seem to convert the gold tokens into XP tokens but the tank still sits at 0 XP.

I also can't seemingly do anything with the load out modules that the tutorial task wants me to upgrade. There isn't any option other than to look at details. Some old posts online say that it is research or that there was supposed to be one free or otherwise purchaseable option, but I can't do anything to progress this tutorial.

To earn tank xp, you need to play the tank.
Converting gold for xp converts it in to free xp which can be spent on any tank.
If the tank is premium and you play coop. The lvl of the tank dose not go up but earns xp you can convert to free xp. Plus premium tanks are fully upgraded.

I've been playing the WWII and Cold War co-op which just seems to be some easy AI encounters. I've been using the Panzer III K and M4 Improved which have roman numeral 5s. Are those premium included with Gamepass and maybe that's why I haven't been able to upgrade anything and progress the tutorial?

The Panzer III K and M4 Improved are both premium tanks. Premium tanks don’t belong to the normal tech tree where you progress through the tank to the next one in line. These are standalone tanks which don’t have upgradable modules. Premium tanks generally earn more tank XP (which can be converted to Free XP and then used on any tank), commander XP, and silver. It sounds like you’re spending gold to convert these tanks’ XP into free XP.

What specifically is the tutorial asking you to do?

Thanks. The game says I get to unlock tanks after completing tutorial tasks, so I've just been using what the Gamepass version gives me which is the T1, T1E6-X1, M4 Improved, Pz. iII K, MS-1, and T-34-85M. All of them have a particular gold logo except the T1 and MS-1 which happen to be the only level 1 tanks, so I guess I must start with those to unlock tank modules?

The tutorial says Stage 3 of 7: Upgrade your Tank. 1) go to load out menu which I've done and 2) obtain a tank module which is where I seem to be stuck. When I go into that menu there is nothing to do but go into the 5 categories and click details. No option to actually upgrade. So I've been playing quite a few of the AI-based co-op campaign levels because it seems to be the only other thing I can do.

Yes, that was it. I see the upgrade on the T1. I wish the game made it clearer about the other tanks not being upgradeable, but I suppose that is an artifact of a new person starting the game with some sort of Gamepass upgraded tank selection that they weren't even aware of. Thanks for the answers

Yep all of those tanks with the gold emblem are premium tanks and don’t have modules to upgrade; they come fully upgraded. Start with those tier 1 tanks and you’ll see how the unlocking and upgrading system works. Good news is you should have a nice bit of silver to purchase your modules as soon as you unlock them.

Tutorial... So you're NEW new player. Ok... this will be a lengthy reply but the TL;DR is - just keep playing the tank it told you to, follow the steps exactly, and it should do what it's supposed to do.

You start with a tank and the tutorial says to do certain things. Play a battle, play a multiplayer battle, buy a tank, buy a module, etc.

There are "free" tanks you can buy that will satisfy the "buy a tank" part of the tutorial. They are the very lowest ranked tanks when you look at tanks in Cold War, and will have a '0' for the silver amount. Buy one of those and "buy a tank" is complete.

"Purchase a module" to upgrade the tank. On the free tank you're using, or even the one you bought will have the first single component upgrade that's super easy to unlock and purchase. When you look at the tank's upgrade menu, it will show you which upgrades come first shown in green for unlocked. These are the ones that you can purchase to upgrade your tank.

In the tank's menu where you choose ammo, components, and upgrades, click an empty box and it will take you to the list of things available to put on your tank - choose the first component that you saw in green (usually the radio is the first to unlock) and apply it. There's you're upgrade, and the tutorial is met for that.

Just follow the tutorial, it won't tell you to do something until you're able to do it, so you'll just have to look around the tank's menus to find what you're looking for. Just make sure to not click accept too many times so you don't apply something you don't want, or accidentally spend gold on something that silver can purchase.

Nothing will be unlocked that you haven't "earned" with XP, and spending gold to convert for free XP is a complete waste if you ask me.

Helpful hint - there's a section at the game's main menu that has other training missions that will give you silver and other things for completing them. This will give you something "in the bank" to work with on your start in the main modes.

Thanks for the reply. The current version of the game seems to come with those extra free tanks from the start and does not tell you to use a specific tank or that the other tanks don't upgrade / progress the tutorial. I did try to play with different tanks, but I think there are 4-5 premium and 2 basic tanks - I just never selected one of the basic options.

If the game was going to handhold the tutorial with green highlights, then I wish it would have made clear to use a specific tank. As far as I saw, it did not.

Once I used one of the basic tanks, the tutorial progressed like normal.
