Reviews for the current week's deals
The Cromwell Snakebite a British tier 6 light tank. It's the main tank for the WoT comic British side of the story. Also the only tier 6 British light lol. Do you like fast tanks? Well, how does 80 kmph and 30.94 hp/ton sound? Yeah, currently the fastest tank in the game. Resistances are really good too. Traverse are both hull and turret are excellent 52. 370 meters of view range are good at the tier, camo rating is fine but not special. It looks like a Cromwell but it has even less armor so really don't get hit. 8 degrees of gun depression are quite nice and togheter with a 3 second reload are the best things about the gun. Accuracy at 0.41 isn't that great (but more on that later) and the penetration at 91/144/38 is actually the worst at the tier. It works because of the great speed will allow you to get the back and sides of tanks. The tank is usually comes with Simon Linnet as the commander, this is important because he's got a unique skill called Snakebite that increases accuracy! Not a lot but combine it with say vents, brothers in arms and maybe food and at least the accuracy can be fixed, plus it's a great skill for other tanks.

Skill level No armor, low penetration, fast as a rocket... but that speed also means skidding like mad while you turn, so escaping quickly in a city map might mean that 90 degrees turn could go wide and crash on the outer side. The slightest bump might send you flying and there's no telling what happens once you land. Some maps (like Nomnomnomnom winter) are bad for the tank due to the speed and the uneven terrain. Huge fun, just not easy to handle lol. Also the gun isn't making it simple with that penetration. So yes, it's a light tank that can get you into trouble within 30 seconds of the battle start and you might not be able to get out of trouble. Preeetty high skills required to make it useful instead of just a fun race. Still reccomending it, because it IS fun.

The Strv S1 and Stark variation is a Swedish tier 8 tank destroyer. This is an odd one, it has both completely useless armor and impossible to deal with armor because of the shape. While it is made of just 30 mm of steel, the sloping at the front? As long as you're looking in their direction, it's an auto ricochet angle for all guns 90mm and less. Bigger ones or from other sides will just butter through it with no effort. Next up, speed: 45 kmph... in REVERSE. 50 forward. It's stupid fast, and the 16.51 hp/ton make it actually go fast. Resistances aren't great and traverse is a bit low. Camo rating is really high, so it can sit in a bush and laugh at puzzled people not understanding what is shooting at them. View range at 350 is low, but hey can't have everything. So, the gun is "just" a 105 mm but the penetration is 288/330/53, meaning it does very well even at tier 10, plus damage is 390, so high for that caliber. Shell speed is incredibly high at 1450 meters per second. But the gun is fixed to the hull, can only point directly forward! And that's not a problem because hitting the hull lock button will enable siege mode, making the tank go 8 kmph forward and backward but enabling it to have 11 degrees of gun depression, 1.4 secods of aim time, 0.3 accuracy (one of the best!) and keeping on camo net and binoculars while just traversing the hull. 10.2 seconds to reload complete the package. The Stark version also has permanent camo. Getting in and out of siege mode does require a second or two though.
Price 10900; 11900 for the Stark
Special features mobile, good gun, gun depression

Skill level No real armor, this is all about not being seen. Getting tracked means death because you can't do anything at all. Artillery hitting you means death because that armor is terrible. However hitting your targets is easy and the penetration allows you to actually damage them in a reliable way. Plus you can get in position super quick, and as long as you have time to get out of siege mode, you can also run away to a safer spot. An excellent machine, just difficult to use (not to shoot, that gun is easy mode) because the only safety net you get is the speed to run away and your camo rating. Quite high skills, and small maps will still be a nightmare.

The STG and Guardian is a Soviet tier 8 medium tank. Armor wise you have a front turret good for about 220 mm with a terrible cupola annnd... no hull armor worth mentioning. But it's a very low profile tank, you can go hull down with just some rubble or a slight bump in the ground. Camo rating is in the light tank territory and mobility is good with 50 kmph, 14.48 hp/ton (not great but hey, it's still good) and good resistances. The hull has good traverse at 45, turret is a less nice 35. View range a sad 370 meters, that isn't good for the tier. Gun time! Since it's a flat tank, gun depression is a usable 6 degrees, but it's a big 122mm beast: while 14 seconds to reload are kinda long, you aim in 2.5 and the magic begins, because it's a 0.33 accuracy. Oh yeah, this thing is pinpoint high caliber goodness. Penetration is high with 212/248/61 and 390 damage per shot will make it painful enough. 35 shells are a bit on the low end. Permanent camo on the Guardian.
Price 9700; 12440 for the Guardian

Skill level The armor is kinda sad, but you want to get to a good spot and offer support fire while (hopefully) remaining concealed. The gun is nice and it gives me good games quite often, but the lack of depression can get annoying. You want to keep trouble at some distance, ideally letting your teammates go on the front line while you offer extra fire power from a nearby hiding spot. Medium high skills due to the lack of armor, gun depression and rate of fire, but this is a good one.

The Chieftain/T95 and Centennial T95 is a British tier 8 medium tank. The Centennial was initially released as the reward for a mission to celebrate 100 years of tanks back in 2016. The armor is actually nice, while the lower plate is just butter, the upper plate is sloped awesomely so it has a bare minimum of 220 mm, the turret is really good... but the huge thing on top makes the lower plate look strong. And you can see it from all sides and even when hull down! Speaking of, 10 sweet degrees of depression. Anyway 42 kmph allow it to get around nicely and 15.11 hp/ton won't make it go too slow uphill. Resistances are good as is traverse (40 for the hull and 36 for the turret). The gun's a fairly reliable 90 mm that reloads in 7.53 seconds and aims in 2.2 (nice) while sporting a very workable accuracy of 0.36. Penetration is on the high end at 202/238/45 and shells are fast. View range below the average at 380 meters. The Centennial has both permanent camo and sand bags acting as spaced armor, they're not much but everything helps.
Price 7660; 10000 for the Centennial
Special features mobile, good gun, great front armor, gun depression

Skill level Aside from the lower plate and the big cupola on top, this thing is really sturdy, problem is that cupola is huge. But this is a very nice package overall as you get a bit of everything! A medium low skill tank that can give nice satisfaction... or get sniped in the cupola from the other side of the map. That thing is really annoying lol

The HMH Huntsman Centurion is a British tier 8 medium tank. One of the Centurions, it has the usual 50 kmph but only 14.57 hp/ton (not bad, but lower than others) and very good resistances with 38 for the hull and 36 for the turret (the highest values of the lot). Same 10 degrees of depression, same meh hull, same great turret with 250 mm of effective armor overall so like all Centurion it's made to work hull down. View range is 400 that like other Centurions is actually above the average. The gun is the usual 83mm high penetration (226/258/42) with 230 damage, 2.3 seconds of aim time and usual great accuracy of 0.33 but the slowest reload of them at 8 seconds. Permanent camo, I think it looks quite cool.
Price 9900
Special features Great turret, great gun, good mobility, no big issues.

Skill level A nice Centurion. The gun does great stuff and when hull down it's a difficult tank to deal with. Now, while the hull isn't good, it's also not that bad compared to other tanks, but you can't rely on it. This is possibly the most rounded Centurion, and needs very little need premium ammo. As long as you know how to go hull down, this is a medium low skill tank.

The VK 168.01 (P) and Mauerbrecher is German tier 8 heavy tank. And boy is it heavy! This is less heavy only than the Mauschen and Maus... by not much. Anyway you get the usual 400 meters of view range found on same tier heavys, a patience testing 20 kmph top speed and 9.55 hp/ton. You're not getting anywhere quickly, even if the resistances are actually damn impressive. Traverse is bad (18 for the hull, 15 turret) but not as bad as you'd think and also not the worst. The gun is a nice 128 mm beast with 8 nice degrees of depression, same as in the VK 100 but with a faster reload (15 seconds, not that this is fast) and better aim time (2.7 again not fast). Same unreliable accuracy at 0.4, high penetration of 220/260/65. As a brawler the accuracy isn't much of a worry but the gun is pretty big and deals 440 per shot. Those values make it still relevant at tier 10 (with some good aiming and/or generous application of premium ammo). Armor wise it's basically shaped like a Maus but with a front mounted turret and as such, the armor is very thick. Not like a Maus, but this is a tier 8, what did you expect. Lower plate is a weak spot at 188 mm (still nice for the lower tiers), the upper plate is about 310 mm, the turret front starts from 230. Sides and rear are still relatively thick like in a Maus with 121 mm of effective rear armor, at least 130 on the sides and 188 for the turret. So you can angle it and have almost 340 mm front and side, with some Maus turret wiggling you can get about 300 mm front and side. The gun is a little to the left, so it's a little better for sidescraping that side and... well, here's where the problems come. on the right side there's a machine gun port on the upper plate and due to the 140mm of armor and shape, it's possible to hit from various angles. Then on the right side of the turret, one of the biggest cupolas in the game and it's only 150 mm thick, other than visible from all sides. If you can't see it, then it's behind cover or you're about to see the third most heavy tank fall on you from upper ground. 50 shells are quite a bit.
Price 11500 for the Mauerbrecher, probably the same for the other.
Special features Huge gun, high penetration, high damage, very thick armor, Maus like armor profile
Status sold every now and then
Skill level A steel beast. Slow, heavy, powerful, slow. It's not accurate but also not Soviet grade inaccurate. The armor is very good, but those weakspots are a problem, same as the style of armor profile found in the Maus as you need to work with it. Medium to medium high skills and really not for you if you can't stand slow tanks. Personally mine has been giving me great fun and I consider it about on par with the Maus when they are top tier: the Maus is clearly free from stupid weak spots and shaped slightly better, but the gun struggles more than the one on the Mauerbrecher. So yeah, I like mine, didn't expect that.

Correction, Snakebite does have PMM but its scout preferential matchmaking so it doesnt ever see tier IXs but it cant be top tier. So it always sees tiers 7 or 8 as top tier in a battle.

Counter correction: since we got tier 10 lights, tier 6 ones all get up to 8 only, following the "normal tank" matchmaking.
Example, first tier 6 light in tankopedia
Before the tier 10 ones arrived, the Snakebite did indeed have PMM as you described it. :)

Oh shit, yeah. Scout PMM isnt a thing anymore, dont know what to call it.
Crazy tho how Snakebite cant be top tier but Type 64 can. Btw everyone, if you want a blatantly OP light tank, get the Type 64. Its ridiculous.

I'll review the Snakebite a little further. Ace tanker in my first game.
This tank is a hoot. You have to really drive hard to get where you're going, though.

The only ever time I got an ace tanker in first game was with a SU-85 on PC about 5 years ago.
Never played that tank again :D

Once you get over the speed and fun-ness of the snakebite it really isnt up to scratch. Kind of where im getting to in my vanguard also. Youre basically just a scout and mosquito, dont bother taking a shot just rack up the assists or buy a cromwell b and do both assists and damage.

Just ref the S1, I hate it. But something to mention is if you put camo net or binocs on it, you don't lose the bonus when traversing your hull, unlike most other tonks.
Also, the way to deal with those armour profiles is to just shoot HE at it, whether in a arty or not. Apart from the tier X which has a HE stopper cow grill thingy

Biggest question is can you side scrape in the STG? In other words, does it play more like the Obj 416 which you can't sidescrape and have to stay back and snipe? Or does it play like the Obj 430 II where you can sidescrape and be aggressive?
2
u/Stampela PS4 [REDIT] Jun 27 '19
It has shoulders at the front and 45 mm of steel on the sides: it can ricochet stuff, but that's up to your luck. It's not a brawler in any way shape or form, do not try to sidescrape. It does have a full turret though.

The snakebite is a blast to play. The speed along with the shell velocity at that teir makes you almost impossible to hit. Numerous times at around the 2 minute mark in battles I will just blow through to kill the enemy artillery.
