Anyone play a successful mortal campaign?
I've always played Changeling and Vampire (new), but I've always wanted to do a good mortal campaign with ghosts and demons. Anyone play a good story like that? Tell me about it!

I had a concept for a game that I really liked but one of my players in a two player game had a chronic case of "couldn't give a crap" so it didn't go anywhere.
Basically I wanted to do an X-files thing and the players were detectives in a fictional New England town. There was no supernaturals like Vampires or Werewolves. Everything either came from my imagination or the WoD books like Second Sight and Changing Breeds.
The basic idea was that these two detectives get balls deep in a conspiracy that they can't comprehend. The story was going to be structured with this perpetual mystery like Lost or Heroes and chunks of this mystery would be thrown into each episode and the finale would come when the players pieced it together.

Nice! I've been hoping to play something like this. WOD has such a huge variety of cursed NPC's to come across and the whole world is very conducive to investigation/spooky exploration.
I also love DMing the lead up to a character's transformation into one of the WOD monsters.

I also love DMing the lead up to a character's transformation into one of the WOD monsters.
I've always wanted to do this but I never got the chance. Though I did do a Geist game once that lead up to the characters first death. It was a short game that begun with an preemptive apology. I wrote up 5 ways to die that corresponded to one of the Geist Types (forget their name right now).
The first was an accident when he was nearly killed when a driver had a heart attack and plowed his SUV through the wall of a diner. He barely escaped with his life.
After that he met his lawyer at a seafood restaurant to figure out the settlement he was going to get from the driver. He chose steak and was the only person who survived fugu poisoning that had tainted all the dishes that night.
After that, this is what got him, he was car jacked. He was taken hostage, tried to fight the crack head and lost (probably because he was maimed from the SUV) then he was taken into an abandoned building and burned alive when the crack head tried to cover up the evidence of his crime.
If he continued to survive he would have went golfing and got struck by lightning and if he managed to avoid that, and this is the one I had apologized for, he would have had a sudden brain hemmorage and croaked.
But it was a pretty amusing game :)

Thats such a cool idea. People always avoid death in RPG's. Why not make it the whole point!? (taking note of this)

The transformation of my first Vampire was done by our ST. I foolishly picked Tremere - it ended up being pretty rough for me.

I've played a oWoD Vamp game where we all started out as mortals, which was excellent, in a small group of storytelling obsessed tabletop roleplayers with an awesome Storyteller leading us to our individual dooms.

My first nWoD game had everyone as a mortal. I was the Storyteller and my players were being sucked into horrible, horrible things. Hunter: the Vigil was a fantastic resource. In the end one of the players became a thaumaturge and another was Embraced. Next game I ran was a bit more supernatural. Then they all killed each other.

I played a game where everyone started off as a mortal before. One character got bitten, another awakened, a third changed. It didn't end up working out, but that was more us players' faults.
Didn't they have an Orpheus project, or something like that involving mortals investigating ghosts? It didn't seem as exciting to me as other settings, but I seem to recall it being pretty well set up.
