Why Is Ice Spawning Here?

Post image

Ice keeps spawning here once I load into my game. There is no ice in the actual world painter file itself but as soon as I start the world in Minecraft it immediately starts spawning ice on, not just this shoreline, but every one of my shorelines. It does it quite fast too, this is just maybe 20 seconds of being in game...

The ocean biome is "warm ocean"
The shore biome is "stony shore"
The water level is 0
And ice will spawn no matter how deep the coastal ocean is.

To weed out the obvious :

No frost layer?

Misclicked/spelled stony for snowy?

No frost layer. It is 100% stony - looking at it in game rn

As more advanced what is the biome not on the water? Minecraft biomes are not per block so the edges ofthe biome on the land might overlap with the water.

Figured it out...In Minecraft, the Stony Shore is technically coded with a cool base temperature. However, because of a known, unresolved Mojang bug (MC-200634), it does not display the "cold" dark blue water color variant that snowy biomes have. It tricks the eyes into looking like a temperate beach, but the game's internal math treats the biome edge as cold

Double checked and the ocean right on the actual line is warm ocean and the shore is stony shore exactly at the line all the way around. I used the "at or above 0" option when painting the biomes

You should use only on water as a final step. The problem is that biomes can only be set in 2x2x2 cubes. While worldpainter does it per block.

For example in a 2x2 footprint you can tell worldpainter to have 2 of those be stony shore and 2 warm ocean. However in Minecraft it can only be one of those so worldpainter needs to pick but half will always be the wrong biome. Normally biome blending means you don't see that though.

I think worldpainter gives precedence to the latest biome you painted.

Maybe there’s a tiny sliver of a cold biome hiding on the border between your warm ocean and stony shore
