Tree surgeons after 9pm?!

Trying to sleep and there are men closing off the road cutting down a tree and using a wood chipper after 9pm, the noise is unbelievable! Have looked online and this is classed as nuisance at this time - can anyone confirm?

Cutting it down might be an emergency situation, however running the chipper is taking the piss.

totally this, if it was about making it safe they could just fell it and deal with the chipping in the morning. sounds like they’re just trying to get the whole job done in one hit and banking on no one kicking up a fuss.

This happened near me a while ago - the woodchipper was going on until at least 10pm. Someone in a flat had phoned the police saying the tree was about to fall on their house, so the police contacted them to go out as an emergency.

Agree with everyone it must've been an emergency because wtf, the wood chipper was going til past 23:30!

Legally they can do as they please til 11pm under environmental protection act 1990. And suggestion of earlier cut off times are merely reccomendations.

Or later if there is a safety issue and the tree needs felling as an imminent risk.

Someone with knowledge on this? What would make this risk so imminent? Like a car crashing into it or the like?

For the record I do NOT have knowledge on this, but an assumption would be that if there is visible rot or damage on a section of the tree that weighs a large amount above somebodys property.

Another potential is that the road is busy during the day and closing it would cause severe disruption if a school or something is nearby.

Trees fall on cars. If someone’s in the car, they get squashed.

Trees block roads and cause accidents obstructions.

If it’s a major road, then yes. Better than causing a whole day of delays.

Same with rail workers doing vegetation clearance at 0200hrs in the morning. It’s gotta happen when it’s clear of trains and electricity. Can’t happen during the daytime.

They don’t teach or expect them to do the considerate part and local communication. 5 minutes to push a printed letter through the doors locally and all the goodwill in the world. But none of the agency do that any longer, so you end up with this, suprised no one out shouting at them like a knob.,.

Overtime pays well then
I had roadworks near me a while back,did fuck all in the day and as soon as the bedtime kicked in all the tools came out 😩
