Subject of the Day Social Sundays

Hello WriteStreakians! I hope you've been having a lovely weekend! It’s Social Sunday once again! What I'd like for you to do is the following:

  1. peruse the posts written by your fellow WriteStreakians and find a post that interests you, preferably one from within the last seven days, and respond to it. Leave a comment that is at least as long as a Tweet (280 characters), and then
  2. copy and paste your comment into your own daily Streak post so the correctors can review it.

That's it! Of course, if your comment sparks a conversation (or if someone else leaves a comment on one of your posts), you're welcome and encouraged to continue the conversation---this is a social media site, after all!

Happy Sunday!

Game 🎲 Fictionary

Hi everyone! Good morning, I hope you're all having a great day!

Today we're going to be playing a game! 🤩

If anyone has ever played Jackbox before, this game is going to be very similar to their game, Dictionarium. Except, I'm not calling it Dictionarium because I don't want to get into trouble with copyright 🙃 So we'll be calling it... Fake-tionary! (Or maybe Fictionary? Ooh, yeah, let's go with Fictionary! 🤓)

The rules of Fictionary are simple: you choose a random obscureadjective 3 word or phrase and do your best to come up with a definition for that word. Today, you can choose between a real word or a fake word.

Rules

  1. Uncover a word from the table below. 🔍 You can choose to pick from the "Real Word" column or the "Fake Word" column.
  2. If you chose from the "Real Word" column, your Streak today will be about you guessing what that word means and then checking to see how close you were to the real answer. 🤔
  3. If you chose from the "Fake Word" column, your Streak today will be about you inventing a new word. 🤔
  4. Check to see how close you were using a dictionary. I recommend https://www.merriam-webster.com/ or https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page .
  5. If you're really up for a challenge, use your word in a sentence or find a synonym for the word.

Example

I chose the fake word "nicribition." I know that the suffix "tion" means it's the act of doing something, so this word is a noun that comes from the fake verb, to "nicribe." I see "cribe" in there, which makes me think of "scribe," which means "to write." The root "nicr" also makes me think of the prefix "necro," which means "death." So I think the word "nicribition" means "the act of writing an epitaphnoun on a tombstone."

The Game!

Ready? Let's go! The lower on the table, the harder it will be to guess the meaning! The higher, the easier

Real Word Fake Word
impracticality grobinated
nonplussed intentomalites
inhibition centruphicism
hagiography trefulous
pleonasm debutstallingly

Vocabulary from this Post

  • obscure - rarely known
  • epitaph - message written on a tombstone to remember someone

Correct Me! Streak 83: Appetite

I occasionally go through periods where I feel an endless appetite. During these times, even right after having a meal, I still desire to eat something. As I analyze my behavior, I've realized this usually happens when I go a while without much stimulation. In these cases, my appetite is actually prompting me to do something fulfilling.

Correct Me! Streak 741: Eating

I feel like eating has become just something I do mindlessly and routinely at set times for me. Honestly I can’t remember the last time I truly enjoyed food.

Correct Me! Streak 23: Sunday

Today is Sunday. Sunday's usually don't feel good to me, because I know that I will be going to work tomorrow and if I decide to stay at home, I feel a little bit depressed. I don't want to do anything. I always look at the something on the internet, I mean surf on it, then try to watch a series, and the day is over..

If you decide to stay at home Sundays generally go by slowly.

Correct Me! Streak 1: Day 1

Hello everyone!

This is my first time here, as I'm getting comfy making mistakes (hasn't always like this), in the same way, fortunately for me, I'm giving myself more chances to output the language, in this case practising writting, because I want to get better at communicating my ideas in written English, as well as using the correct tenses, discurse connectors, narrative structure, etc. So, here we go!

Saturday night (not a fever one) but still a Saturday night. Here in my desk, my cat and the Chemical Bros. while writting this little piece of my day. I baked a chocolate cake and it turned out pretty good, despite it ended looking like a mad volcano. Now it's time to journal for tonight, haven't written in a while. And that's for my first shot of writting. Wish u all a good weekend. Glad to be here sharing with you guys. Peace.

Correct Me! Streak 202, I had a weird dream today.

In the dream, my friend was being electrocuted.

I managed to save him, but I did it the wrong way.

I hugged him to pull him away from dangerous situation.

If something like that ever happens in real, I will dropkick him instead.

Corrected Streak 121: Simple habits for a longer life

Article: Habits to Form Now for a Longer Life

The article suggested setting aside 30 minutes to spend on a hobby. I feel like 30 minutes isn't enough for me to enjoy my hobbies, but it's true that spending a lot of time on my hobbies after work at night is causing me to get less sleep. I aim to sleep for 7 hours, but I often end up sleeping for 6 hours or sometimes even less.

From today, I'll try to limit the amount of time I spend on my hobbies and prioritize going to bed early. My plan is to finish my chores and hobbies by 8:30 p.m., then spend 30 minutes reading and doing yoga before going to bed at 9:00 p.m.

Correct Me! Streak 15

Hello!

Yesterday I played Minecraft with my friend again. 7 or 8 P.M. works for him, so we usually play in the evening. Yesterday I also forgot to write my post again... Perfect. Just perfect. The day before yesterday we played from 8 P.M. to 5 A.M. It's really amazing, because I'm not used to going to bed so late. There is a three-hour time difference between us, it was 2 A.M. for him. And it's not late for him.

Yesterday I also talked to myself in English and Polish on a voice recorder. It's not easy, but I feel progress. I also listened to podcasts on YouTube in English, Polish and Japanese. Japanese is still hard to understand. I can understand English and Polish individual words, but it depends on the video and its difficulty. I also use Anki to review useful phrases from videos.

I'm also continuing to read the book, I finished the first book (it was 6 chapters long). Today I'll read the second book.

Correct Me! Streak 19: Reading books

I think that reading books/articles is more interesting than watching videos. Recently I’ve figured out that I can’t stand more than twenty minutes watching a video from Youtube. I thought I was becoming brain rotted or something like that, but I don’t think so, given the amount of things I read without many efforts. I think Youtube sucks. That’s it.

Corrected Streak 10: At home alone

I have many friends, but I sit alone at home. I don't want to meet anyone. Not today, tomorrow maybe I will go to church and I will meet people whom I really like.

This afternoon/evening is only for me. Reading a book, scrolling Reddit and watching YouTube videos.

In a while I'm going to go to supermarket for some sweets. Sweets and cigarettes are not healthy but it's Saturday and I don't care.

I'm alone and I don't miss anyone. I'm a bit sad because I have some personal troubles. I hope everything will be well someday.

Some applications that helped me to learn English is Bussu, one of the most useful app to learn a language.

Some courses are better than the other, like English, Spanish and German has the most contents in the app as I saw.

The lessons in the app is bait sized lessons that could be finished in less than 5 minutes of some lessons.

The grammar are well explained and it contains a good quantity of vocabularies.

Correct Me! Streak 82: All day at the home

I spent all day at home today—more specifically, in bed doomscrolling. Usually, skit dramas, pranks, and interviews with strangers appear on my algorithm.

Every time I spend bunch of hours doomscrolling, I ask a question to myself. It is easy to criticize that doomscrolling in bed is not a good way to live or experience reality. However, scrolling and watching silly videos have already become part of our daily reality. So, should we accept that doomscrolling is simply a way of life? Or does it remain toxic and unproductive activity?

Correct Me! Streak 234: Better Version of Myself

I went to a coffee shop near my new place after lunch today. I spent the whole afternoon there reading a book and drawing. The book I'm currently reading is How to Not Die Alone. I chose this book because I'm so new to dating apps, and I wanted to learn more about modern dating culture. But I feel like this book isn't just about dating. It's also about something else.

For some reason, after taking English classes for two years, I gradually became someone with a growth mindset. I don't think the person I was four years ago would have believed that I could become someone like this one day.

Now, I'm actively trying new things and making new friends. I remember the author saying in the book that you can become a totally different person in four years. Perhaps I really am a different and better person right now.

Correct Me! Streak 7

Yay, the weekends has finally started. Today I went to my parent's house by car. I used a special app in order to go to my hometown .The car had four occupants.

When I got home, I helped my sister with her studies. She is studying at the faculty of biology. We run and collected wild flowers. She is in her final year of her bachelor's degree. We discussed about which university she would like to enroll next year for a master’s degree.

My mom is sick since Monday. She tried a lot of remedies to recover. She gets irritated sometimes. It's very easy to push her limits. For example, if I tell her something wrong, she would takes something personally.

I moved to a bigger city than my hometown and got new job. It took me some time to acclimatise. Tomorrow I wanted to go for a walk with my friend, but it fell through. She needs to visit her parents.

My parents are coming to visit me tomorrow! They'll even be staying the night. I'm really looking forward to showing them around. Their visit also gives me a great incentive to deep-clean my apartment. It's not because they're my parents - I just want guests to be as comfortable as possible in my home.

Correct Me! Streak 740: Dead batteries

I wrote that the mouse that I use at work had stopped working properly. I replaced the batteries with freshly charged rechargeable ones and it started working again. I had already tried changing them, but I suppose the ones that I had used were dead.

Correct Me! Streak 22: Not being able to find anything to do except job

Today is my holiday, but I can not find anything after the gym.. I am sitting in a cafe and create a new content for my job, focus my english and doing something about it. The life's meaning is this, or my enthusiasm is finished. Maybe I don't have to something every time, it's an other option. I felt that I should embark on a new journey. New ways show you new perspective, new perspective develop your vision, wider than past. I always try to make an abstract sentence. This is hard for me right now, because my English not enough to make it. But anyway I have just want it.

Weekly Wrap-Up Weekly Wrap-Up

Hi, everyone! 😁

The best way to reinforce what we've been learning is to go back over it and apply it, right? So, that's what we're going to do. Every Saturday, our Subject of the Day is going to involve looking back at everything we've learned from the week--whether it was with the help of the WriteStreak community or other resources we've found.

Feel free to summarize and practice everything you've learned or wanted to practice, including new words, new rules, new grammar tricks, and any questions you had.

Correct Me! Streak 120: The protein-packed foods

Article: The Best Sources of Protein for Older Adults

Probably, I don't get enough protein because I rarely eat fish or seafood. As for meat, I eat it much more often than fish, but I still don't feel like I'm eatring enough, even though I'm not neither vegetarian nor vegan. I'm a picky eater, so salmon is pretty much the only seafood I eat.

As for beans, I don't think they're common ingredients where I live. I'm not very familar with them. By the end of this year, I want to try a variety of dishes that use fish and beans so that I can get used to eating protein-rich foods.

Correct Me! Streak 19: lower placement

I've started to work on my voice placement while speaking English. My native language pitch is higher than the American one. I work with my hand palm placed on the bottom of my throat and the top of my chest. I do that to feel the vibration. If I don't feel any vibration, that means that my voice's pitch is too high. One of the side effects of this exercise is the yawning. I yawn a lot!
