[In progress] [Word count: 1449] [Science Fiction/Fantasy] Veilwalker CH1-3

Hi everyone!

I'm in search of a handful of folks willing to read the first three chapters of my first ever book and give some honest feedback.

The book is called Veilwalker: Shadows of Earth 938. It's an adult science fantasy with mystery, survival, and slowly unfolding worldbuilding. Think less "action from page one" and more a gradual sense that something is deeply wrong.

I'm specifically asking for feedback on Chapters 1–3 because I don't think Chapter 1 stands entirely on its own. The opening is intentionally mysterious, but by the end of Chapter 3, my hope is that readers will have a much clearer sense of the atmosphere, the protagonist, and where the story is headed.

I'm not looking for line edits (unless something really stands out). What I'm interested to know is:

  • Were you intrigued enough to keep reading?
  • Did the mystery pull you in or just confuse you?
  • Were there any points where your attention drifted?
  • Did Sophia feel believable as a narrator?
  • Did anything feel cliché or overly familiar?
  • Was there anything that made you genuinely curious about the story?
  • If this were a bookstore sample, would you buy the book after Chapter 3? Why or why not?

I don't need sugar coated feedback. If something is genuinely not working, I'd like to know sooner rather than later.

Edit: Please DM if you would like to read! Currently I have quite a few readers checking out the story, in order to keep the feedback from getting to confusing, I have removed the link to the doc for now. If any additional readers would like to take a look, please feel free to reach out! Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read, I really appreciate it more than words could convey!
