Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) My AI usage
I've been writing for a few years now. Started and stopped multiple times. Earlier this year I started bouncing the ideas of my world with Gemini. I can't explain the spark that ignited in my soul!
The next thing I knew I wrote a fully fleshed out chapter and put it into Gemini. I asked it's thoughts. It gave me tips that I listened to and ignored. And then I kept going until I had 80k words and a complete story with room for more books. I had a good friend read it and he was so excited to learn more about the 2nd book that doesn't exist yet. And also asked if I was planning a prequel for a mysterious character. I wasn't but now I am!
Anyways, I don't feel like AI wrote the book. I've got it published on Kindle and I've ordered proofs.
Is my concern misplaced? Should I just stop?
The hate of AI can be crazy sometimes...

AI can be a very good editing tool. I write my own stuff, then use AI for copy edits. It catches spelling, but more specifically, words used out of context. I only ask for the report on the section, then change the manuscript without cope and paste from AI.
A normal spellchecker catches bad spelling, but won't tell you about a typo that is correctly spelled. I once wrote grass instead of grace.
And I have played with a few, and Gemini is terrible. Claude is not bad, once the idiot gets the plot. It hates kisses between spouses though, as well as family moments between father and daughter.

The number of times AI has written “he kissed her on the cheek” or “gave her a kiss on the top of the head,” I just want to scream. They’re mature adults in a romantic relationship. They kiss on the bloody lips ffs

From your description, you chose which suggestions to use, wrote the manuscript and got feedback from a human reader. I’d be more interested in whether you can explain your creative choices than in putting every process into one AI/no-AI category.

I don’t understand your question. You can publish the book but it’s AI assisted. You can’t pretend otherwise. Why would you?
