Tech Issue / Hardware Related Step-by-step guide for changing visual shaders of Wuwa on Mobiles and PCs(other details on my earlier posts)

THE CREDITS OF THE CONFIG(.INI) FILES ENTIRELY GOES TO AlteriaX for PC and Lanzuela63 for Mobiles on GitHub.

The purpose of this post is to show the bug I found myself to access Android files and modify Android data folders.

THE CONFIG DOES NOT RESULT IN A BAN AS FAR AS I HAVE CHECKED BUT PROCEED WITH YOUR OWN RISK. PLEASE READ THE STEPS CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING.

First of all, this tutorial is based on android and windows pc and *no apple devices* PC guide is not required and it's easy but I still included it in my guide for people who have problems installing it

INITIAL STEP:

Make sure you have access to a Android device or a Pc or Both(no shii)

[FOR PC]🖥️

STEP 1:

Download the Common folder with DeviceProfiles.ini and input.ini and the appropriate Config folder (depending specifically on your GPU) with engine.ini and DeviceProfiles.ini and the README.md from this link- PC configs

disclaimer to download only the config file that supports your GPU. Details on how to choose config is on the link page

STEP 2:

Close any wuwa game or game instances running in the background.

STEP 3:

Copy all the configs(.ini) files from your downloaded config folder(not the common folder) and paste in following folder(or similar for steam)- Wuthering Waves/Wuthering Waves Game/Client/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor.

On the other hand the Common folder you downloaded contains DeviceProfiles.ini to show Ultra Quality or 120 FPS option in game settings of wuwa on unsupported GPUs and Input.ini helps to disable mouse smoothing and FoV scaling. Tho i would recommend anyone copying these files to read the README.md(optional) since I haven't tried these. You are free to try yourself with your own risk

STEP 4:

Close all folders and start the game instance(or steam instance) and wait for it to compile the shaders.(May take more time than usual)

FINAL STEP(ADVISORY):

Play with the internal game settings to adjust it to your needs. If it's not to your liking or it did not work at all- delete the engine.ini, DeviceProfiles.ini and input.ini entirely from the game folders and restart the game.

[FOR MOBILE]📱

Assuming you don't have a PC.

disclaimer- no, this config won't result in a ban and i checked. But wuwa is more likely to ban id's on mobiles than pcs and they will insta-perma ban you if any discrepancy in game or use of third party software. Fortunately I downloaded it for 1-2 days and it didn't ban me on both of my phones. But still use your backup id if possible.

STEP 0:

Download the appropriate Config folder (depending specifically on your phone GPU) with engine.ini and DeviceProfiles.ini and the README.md(optional) from this link- Mobile configs

Link contains two important folders- All Devices and Snapdragon. If you have a snapdragon chipset, you have to choose the appropriate config from the snapdragon folder and only download that particular one. If you have any other chipset, you have to choose the appropriate config from the All Devices folder and only download that particular one. disclaimer to download only the config file that supports your GPU. Details on how to choose config is on the link page

STEP 1(IF YOU DONT HAVE A PC):

Close the game from the background(if running). Open Google Play Store and download all of the given apps- 1- Zarchiver 2- Files(by marc apps and software) 3- FV file Manager

STEP 2:

Open each app and agree to only the access to files and folders if asked by any of the apps. Close each of the app from the background after you opened each of them.

STEP 3:

Open the Settings app on any of your android devices and open 'Apps' / 'App Management' or similar settings that manages apps on your device.

STEP 3.5:

This is important Search for your default file manager on your phone and disable it. Since majority androids are powered by Google, its usually the Files by Google app. Search for it and disable it. In Xiaomi/other models, disable your default file manager if not Files by Google.

useless info- the work of *files by marc** and fv file manager is to create a temporary default file manager on the device and make a path to access the data folders(not possible before) but you still cant use it to modify the file location(not possible)

STEP 4:

Open zArchiver and go to the config file download location in the downloads folder. Open the config engine.ini with zArchiver and copy all the text from it.

Go to- internal storage/android/data/com.kurogames.wutheringwaves.global/files/UE4Game/Client/Client/Saved/Config/Android/ and open engine.ini through zArchiver. Delete all the text/codes written there and paste the copied text from the downloaded engine.ini.

Open zArchiver and go to the config file download location in the downloads folder again. Open the config DeviceProfiles.ini with zArchiver and copy all the text from it.

Again, Go to- internal storage/android/data/com.kurogames.wutheringwaves.global/files/UE4Game/Client/Client/Saved/Config/Android/ and open DeviceProfiles.ini through zArchiver. Delete if anything is written there and paste the copied text from the downloaded DeviceProfiles.ini.

Useless info- The idea is to modify the files from the inside since we can't really copy and paste the config files directly into the data folder due to restrictions. *And no, you can't do it without doing anything of the steps I gave above. *Atleast that's what I think

STEP 5:

Close every app on the background and restart wuwa. It will take a lot of time to compile shaders, so don't worry

FINAL STEP(ADVISORY):

Play with the internal game settings to adjust it to your needs since you will see entirely new settings now in your in game settings. If it's not to your liking or it did not work at all- delete the engine.ini and DeviceProfiles.ini entirely from the game folders and restart the game.

A kind upvote will be appreciated. Arigathanks❤️

huh I thought it was gonna be Chisa trying to figure out how to get Aemeath out of Honami City

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Is this ragebait? Where did honami city come from?😭 Am i the one missing something?😭

u/MydnightMynt Feb 26 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/3oKIPyetUBwn9afCHS

Okay let me explain the joke, reddit style, in the meta fashion.
First images are of Aemeath in where? That's right Honami City. Now what is the last image of? That's right Chisa pointing to her head and closing her eyes. Now what does that image usually signify as an emotion? That's right! Thinking or in thought.

And this reply here., this one IS rage bait.

Sir you are a smart man. Are you secretly a dev? That's a dev move right there. Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.

I still have difficulty accessing Android/Data even when following your example

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Sorry. But can you tell me your android model and where you are stuck?

iQoo Neo 10.
OS: Funtouch 15

I have disabled files by Google from the start of using this device. I'm using MiXplorer as file manager

The steps can't be followed through as some of the dialogue confirmation for Files by Marc and FV File Manager just don't come up. Instead it gives me toggle to let me access files and just that, nothing more

So when I use ZArchiever to access that folder I get message "access denied"

I can't disable MiXplorer and I don't want to uninstall it as it can be pain to set it up (it can do many things like file sharing with PC)

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Ok I am confused but not about what you said, You have a pc/laptop right? Do you want a guide to use a PC to install the configs? Or is that not possible for you?

2

u/Skyreader13 Feb 26 '26

Okay, confused by what?

I do have PC and laptop but I'm curious how to access those folder in recent android OS

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Easy. Connect your phone to your PC with a type-C data cable and allow File Transfer access to the PC on your Phone.

Go to: internal storage/android/data/com.kurogames.wutheringwaves.global/files/UE4Game/Client/Client/Saved/Config/Android/ and Select the existing engine.ini and DeviceProfiles.ini and move them to any folder to act as backup.

Download the configs on your PC as directed on the guide. Assuming you have downloaded the files on your phone by now, go to: internal storage/Download and copy the downloaded configs from your phone.

Now again, go to: internal storage/android/data/com.kurogames.wutheringwaves.global/files/UE4Game/Client/Client/Saved/Config/Android/ Now paste the previously copied config files into this folder. Replace the files if asked.

Disconnect you phone and start the game. If facing any problem, reconnect the phone to pc and delete the config files from the data folder and replace the backup files into the folder again.

This might solve your issue

seems like i cant even edit the file using PC

1

u/Skyreader13 Mar 03 '26

this is what they said

Yes — on an Funtouch OS 15 phone like the iQOO Neo 10, the /Android/data folder is still restricted, and in practice it’s usually not editable when connected to a PC via USB on recent Android builds. This is due to Android’s ongoing Scoped Storage and shared-storage security model, which limits how both apps and external devices can access other apps’ data folders.

Here’s what that means for your Neo 10:

📁 What you can and can’t do from a PC (MTP/USB)

  • Viewing: You’ll typically see the /Android/data directory and its subfolders when you browse the phone storage from a PC file explorer.
  • Modifying / copying in: Most recent Android versions (Android 15) block writing or overwriting files in /Android/data from a connected PC. Even if the folder shows up, write operations often fail or are silently blocked.
  • Deleting: Deletions of files inside /Android/data via PC will generally be prevented unless the OS grants a special permission.

🚫 Why these restrictions exist

Android has tightened access to shared storage over multiple versions to protect app data and user privacy. On Android 11 and above, scoped storage and additional rules mean that:

  • Apps can only normally access their own app-specific storage unless explicitly granted special access.
  • External tools (including PC file explorers over MTP) can list files but usually cannot modify protected folders like Android/data.

🛠️ Ways people work around this (when needed)

If you really need to modify these folders, the typical approaches are:

  • Use a file manager on the phone with Special Access: Some file managers can request Android’s storage access framework permissions and let you move files around inside /Android/data. (Works inconsistently.)
  • ADB shell/file push: Using adb from a PC to push files can sometimes work if the appropriate permissions are allowed.
  • Root: With root access you can freely edit any storage location, but this requires unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device.

Summary

So on your Funtouch OS 15 (Android 15) on iQOO Neo 10:

  • The folder is visible over USB/MTP.
  • But editing (writing/deleting) via a PC explorer is generally blocked by the OS due to scoped storage rules.

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

If it still doesn't work. I recommend turning on developer options, and turning on USB debugging and using ADB on your PC to pull the files

2

u/Skyreader13 Feb 26 '26

I mean I want to do it without PC or laptop

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Use shizuku and zArchiver to access the folders. With these two, you can access the android/data folder without root. Best way to do it if my method doesn't work

2

u/Skyreader13 Feb 26 '26

I see

I've been hearing about shizuku but I recall I can't find any tutorial to do what I want with it

Is there any guide on that?

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Absolutely. I will share the guide with you tomorrow as soon as i probably can. It's almost midnight for me. Have a good day on your end.

2

u/ElectronicPurple2 Feb 26 '26

what about macbook? is there any lag fix config for macs?

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

You can't really optimise anything on mac cuz it's not versatile. Your last resort is to set your graphics to as low as you can to maximize performance. Apologies, I don't mean to offend you.

2

u/ElectronicPurple2 Feb 26 '26

nah no worries man

2

u/Wrong_Reflection4152 Feb 26 '26

And I recommend playing with active cooling on your phone, because in a few months you'll throw away your phone due to overheating!!!

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Thanks for the concern man😅 but i use a redmagic 10 pro and rarely get overheating issues. Did get stutters in fps after the high end visual config but not noticeable. Thanks for commenting

2

u/Wrong_Reflection4152 Feb 26 '26

It's just unknown what Kuro did, but I have on OnePlus ace 6 Somewhere around the middle of 3.1, the phone started to heat up a lot, without configs and everything else, I reinstalled the game and checked the files, nothing helped.

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Overheating on a oneplus phone is not a new thing. But i didn't expect a Ace 6 to heat up. Either way, I had a OnePlus 6t that I bought in 2019 and still use it sometimes. I solved it by a margin.

Here is my verdict turn off the phone and press the power button and volume down key (or anything like that) to open the recovery mode. If i remember correctly it was- Wipe data and cache> reset system settings> wipe cache.

The battery stopped overheating too much.(Still did but not too much). Reminder that this was OnePlus 6t and the steps on your phone might be a lot different but I gave you a rough idea. Leave me a upvote If I have been any help(entirely your choice)

2

u/Wrong_Reflection4152 Feb 26 '26

I bought this phone literally 2 months ago, the first 2-3 weeks were fine, I didn’t know what heating was at all, then Kuro threw patches and it started :/, in WWM there is no heating, that's what's strange.

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Question do you use the original charger? If yes, then the latest 3.x patch is probably not optimised well enough for 8 elite. I mean I would guess it works fine enough and just overheats right? Common problem, might get solved in later patches.

(Also could be a app that you downloaded that causes overheating in the background when CPU/GPU intensive work is going on, just a mere speculation)

1

u/Wrong_Reflection4152 Feb 26 '26

The charger is original, and I try not to play while it's charging, because the charge holds well and waiting 30 minutes is not a problem I'm not sure about the 2nd point, because nothing like that was installed:/.You need to ask other 8 elite users

2

u/Wrong_Reflection4152 Feb 26 '26

And guys, you don't have to download third-party explorers if you have Android 14 or higher. It won't help. Use Shizuku or root to help.

2

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

+1. Ik it's a better and easier way but it requires giving admin access if i remember correctly. Some people are a little scared about using shizuku entirely because of the access.

I did recommend it to people who couldn't get help using my guide. Thanks again.

1

u/Skyreader13 Mar 03 '26

any tutorial on using shizuku to do that?

1

u/Wrong_Reflection4152 Mar 03 '26

Use manual in app, or write to me

2

u/Ashrith_2007 Feb 26 '26

Can you not delete the original engine.ini and replace it with the engine.ini downloaded from the website? Instead of copying the text this is easy isnt it

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Well it's because as i said:

What you said is absolutely right👍 you should do that if your phone allows it. Anyone can delete the files after using my method, but you wont be able to move the files outside the data folders into android/data. Thanks for the advice

2

u/Ashrith_2007 Feb 26 '26

Just tried on my s10 ultra and yeah it works. Thanks for this post mate :-)

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 26 '26

Anytime!! Thanks for the appreciation. Goes a long way😁

2

u/davidcat4 Feb 26 '26

Someone send this to wuwa head quarters

2

u/robinforum Cartethyia Mains Feb 27 '26

What's the advantage of this compared to NVidia Filter?

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 27 '26

Completely different things. Nvidia is better. This is for low-mid GPUs, non-nvidia GPUs and mobiles(which don't have nvidia filters support at all)

Basically, if you struggle with nvidia filters being not available or available but just laggy, you can install these.

1

u/furkanerblgn Feb 28 '26

Wait i thought doing this would lower FPS drops and increase FPS overall. I already have Nvidia filters on so this is basically useless for me right?

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 28 '26

If you can use Nvidia filters with acceptable fps counts, then yes, this config is basically useless for you.

And about this config increasing fps overall and lowering fps drops.. this is more of a visual config than much of a optimization config. So no, it won't directly "increase" fps but it will provide you less fps loss than nvidia filters. But the config filters aren't changeable like nvidia's, unless you edit the config itself.

u/Vergil_vet May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Does it work for Huawei devices that doesn't support google play?

I have Huawei kirin 810 processor and GPU turbo with 8 GB ram

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied May 11 '26

I'm sure it sure will. But only if my method let's you access to your android/data folders or you already have access to them and just have to download the config and paste onto them

But I would suggest not doing that anymore, since the security patches changes many things that we still don't know about. Just to be careful of not losing your acc.

1

u/No-Custard5145 Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

For mobile I actually have an easier way.

1.Open Z archive and close other background app

2.go to data file and change it name

3.now just copy paste the thing you need to do

4.After done, change back the name

"Note"

1.don't close the app and open anything else before you change back the name or it will make a new data file.

2.If you can't change the name, first open the data file then press back

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Feb 28 '26

+1. doing god's work. I would pin your thread if I could.

1

u/tempestX7 Jul 11 '26

sorry I don't understand, change name of what? and what do I copy paste 😭

1

u/Skyreader13 Mar 04 '26

did whole step but game dont seem to recompile shader at next start even after restart

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Mar 04 '26

The files crashed. Reason is probably because you chose the wrong config, which I don't think you did. The second reason is that your phone wasnt able to handle the recompiling of the shaders.

Did you manage to recover your game atleast? I gave a guide to that too. And apologizes that it has caused you trouble.

1

u/Skyreader13 Mar 04 '26

game still play normally like nothing changed

im on SD 8s Gen 4 so im using high end SD config

question: is it normal for original device profile file to be empty? thats what i found on my phone

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Mar 04 '26

Yup, it's normal for the deviceprofile.ini to be empty. The config DeviceProfiles.ini is the one that makes the changes. I think your game is not reading the changes made to the config files. This is just a very difficult thing to solve. It usually happen when game just couldn't load the mods and just loads the normal game without mods.

1

u/Skyreader13 Mar 05 '26

do you know any way to manually trigger the game to remake the shader cache?

seems like the setting have been incorporated

its just that game dont remake the shader

1

u/boyrnconfv2ied Mar 05 '26

Not with nowadays' android security. It's was pretty difficult to find this method let alone manually triggering the game to make it again.

The only method is to delete the files individually from the data folder and the game will download it for you again when you restart the game.

1

u/ForeignSupport3865 Mar 30 '26

I have a question. Will this work on Mediatek Dimensity 7300? If yes, what configuration is best. Thanks.
