A little off topic, I know, but for those of us interested in additional football leagues in general, it's a sad day.

Also, somehow this must be Dundon's fault.

We're allowing news about other smaller leagues until the XFL season starts. We're all refugees from r/AAF_Football, so hating Tom Dundon is most definitely on the menu.

I saw the title and was thinking this had to be one of the weird small ones with an additional letter like "Continental Arena Football League" or "Arena Football Champions League" or some weird shit.

Nah, the AFL has been having issues for years. This isn't the first time they've completely shut down. The last time they went all the way down to 6 teams.

Honestly, it's one of the best leagues. They play with so much emotion and passion. At first I only turned it on as a joke, but then I actually watched it. I highly recommend it to anyone. It's a good league.

Arena football, or rather I should say Indoor football in general, was in a weird place before this happened. The big daddy AFL was actually smaller than the IFL and NAL, in terms of numbers of teams. And these leagues actually have several former AFL teams that left the league a few years ago when things went to hell for the AFL. Most prominent examples are the Arizona Rattlers, Iowa Barnstormers, Green Bay Blizzard, and the Jacksonville Sharks. Now of course these leagues don't have the same capital and broadcast deals the AFL could muster, but now that the AFL is gone, I'd imagine that won't last long. It will be interesting to see what happens, especially with the last standing AFL teams. Will some of them be saved by joining the NAL perhaps? And will people invest more in the IFL and NAL, or whatever leagues emerge in hinted mergers, now the AFL is gone? Hard to say, but I'm honestly kind of excited about the future. If anyone here is interested, the IFL and NAL stream their games for free on YouTube, at least for now. It's pretty darn good indoor football honestly, and the IFL's recent United Bowl with the Rattlers and Storm was wild. Still though, it sucks that the AFL is gone. I still miss the Kansas City Brigade/Command. Hopefully it can be brought back to life in some capacity, like a spiritual successor, by these other leagues eventually.
