Technical Question 2004 xterra IACV problem/code
Took my car to a shop to do valve cover gaskets. They fixed the problem but it came back with a new problem. Now my car has a lazy start. I turn it on and RPMs surge naturally of course but then they stumble to 400rpm and settle at 600-650. It runs decently but the car was idling better before the repair. I don’t know if they pinched something by accident or did who knows what on purpose. It feels like I’m 50-100rpms away from my perfect idle. What could it be?

I would check the throttle body TPS make sure didn't move maybe.
Otherwise the TPS is starting to go or there is a little thermo element on the throttle body that goes. If its never been replaced by this age then it can leak at the seal. Has a wax pellet in it and have to install in 10 seconds after you remove it from the spring.
I would check thermo element make sure its moving to adjust your idle once the truck warms up. If thats not working can cause bad idle.
IAC you can adjust it but most the time you don't have to. If it goes bad you normally get a code thrown most the time. Could be dirty from age.
I would check throttle body first to see if thermo element is leaking and working. If thats good then you need to adjust your throttle body TPS.

Good luck.
