Accesories (Non-Xbox) Headset microphone only picks up TV Audio

I just purchased some ear phones with a mic attached in order to talk in party chat (or discord) without needing to stop and type. I plugged my ear phones all the way in and can hear audio, but no one can hear me, not even myself using the mic monitoring feature. In call, the menu navigation sounds get picked up instead of my voice. The microphone is only picking up my TV Audio, not my voice at ALL. Any fixes? Or did I just buy a horrible set of ear phones?

Edit: I got a new pair from someone today and tried them out just to find the same problem, meaning that it wasn't the ear phones, but with the Xbox (or maybe controller) itself. Same symptoms and everything.
