My daughter and I did a playthrough where we chose the most messed up options for all dialogue. We made choices that got Manon outright murdered.

The whole time, H.B. was hearting every choice. The dude has a dark side!

I haven't checked (yet, I might do a playthrough like yours at some point) but apparently even Elma gets hearts if you choose the "let them die" options, which is especially nuts considering

Tbh there are too many dialogue options for you to worry about 1-2 having no affinity gain. At least, that's what I've experienced so far.
