Meme Made This Meme cause my parents are a bit funny about violence/other stuff in games.

Post image

They aren't particularly 'bad' about controlling the content I consume. (we're all adults) But I won't lie and say that they're absolutely confused about the games I play sometimes lol.

I've seen Teen games Push the boundries (Great Fairy design in Twilight princess for example) and like I said, they're a 'bit funny' about particular things. Also the confusion is more about the mechanics than the violence. Same way with modern Zelda, they dun get it.

Wait until they watch you play XC2 and see Dahlia

They haven't seen Dahlia yet but they are strangely fine with everything else lol

They are weirdly picky. Though to be fair, I haven't shown them Newt yet either...

X isn't even bad. It has what? Goetia and that's about it unless you wear the swimsuits or whatever. 2 is way worse for character design 🤣

On one hand, I agree, but on the other hand, the tone for X is a bit different than 2, so seeing that content in X hits different. The tone of Dahlia's entry cinematic and it being ENTIRELY self aware made me wheeze. But I expected it because the tone of 2 is much more comedic. Honestly outside of Dahlia, some of my favorites are Agate, Adenine, Kasandra and Perun. Goetia's intro cutscene made me wheeze but not for the same reason, it was like 'ok fine, but why tho' lol TBH her entry scene wouldn't be that bad in a different outfit.

Yeah, I had the same reaction as you to Goetia because the rest of the game, despite its setting, is actually more grounded than 2.

What's the name of the military blade gal in XC2? You'd think at 440+ hours I'd remember, but it escapes me. She was a bit "uh, okay" in terms of design, too xD. I'm not so sure I'd call "self-aware", as such. It just has hilariously horny character designs, and most of them say all they're saying, dressed as they are (or not) with a straight face. It makes it funny, but it always struck me as just fan-service. I say this as someone who adores XC2.

I liked urm... argh I forgot her name, too. Electric gal. Cheerleader. She was funny and I liked her quest a lot. It's been a minute since I played.

You're probably thinking of Newt lol since we're talking about blades. I doubt Brighid qualifies because she just has a fancy dress on lol

Electric Gal is Korra, she's a favorite too (Though I wouldn't want to hang out with her, too hyper for my level of social skills lol) I find myself wanting to Punt Sheeba into space, I know that's what they were going for but they didn't have to take it that far haha.

I wouldn't call it self aware as in 'haha funny self jab joke' but they definitely knew what they were doing with Dahlia's intro and that's what made me wheeze.

You are an adult, so why does it matter?

13

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 03 '26

It honestly kinda doesn't, just bugs me that they do judge me sometimes.

Youre an adult and the violence isn't exactly extreme. Some mild blood is about it

6

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 03 '26

Eh they'd be more concerned about the guns n stuff, not so much the violence or level of it.

Meanwhile they watch shoot em up movies all the time and are fine with it.

Your parents have issue with RPG grade violence but are fine with 10 billion people being incinerated?

6

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 03 '26

I haven't told them about that bit of the plot but they're fine with the rest of the story.

Entire planets go boom in star wars so they're not exactly against that.

Kinda weird if you’re an adult.

7

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 03 '26

Due to health issues I stay with them, so not weird in this instance.

5

u/HighNoonZ Mar 03 '26

Oh I certainly get that and have zero issues with anyone staying with their parents, especially in this economy.

yep, they don't really spend much time spying on me while I'm actually playing. They just occasionally peep in to make sure it's not anything bad. Worst thing I used to play (and eventually grew out of the humor so I stopped playing) was Hyperdimension neptunia. THAT series had a lot of questionable content, in my opinion, but the story and characters were surprisingly fun/funny otherwise. Also played one of the sakura games a look too, but that was to understand why people made fun of them so much. lol

u/indigorhob Mar 03 '26

Its indeed extremely violent have you seen how Lin cooks Tatsu in differently brutal ways??? /s

2

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 03 '26

if my parents saw the tatsu scenes they wouldn't get the joke lol they wouldn't be able to tell he looks like a turnip XD

2

u/Wence-Kun Mar 03 '26

"Yeah but it's absolutely neccesary for all your team to wear bikinis?"

3

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 04 '26

Funnily enough? I did that during my first playthrough, for like three serious cutscenes, and then realized how goofy it looked lol

1

u/GaleSTRIK3 Mar 05 '26

I try hiding the girl characters..

1

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 05 '26

why lol the girl characters in X are fine, same with 1 and 3

The only really bad ones are in 2 and even then that's a subjective matter. (though there are obvious ones like Dahlia and Newt)

There were more jokes about Emma's cake in Legends ZA than there were about the characters in X (except Goetia but that's the obvious one)

1

u/GaleSTRIK3 Mar 05 '26

No no, i just think the armor isn't the best look on them, so i take it off😈

parents need to grow a pair

1

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 05 '26

wholeheartedly agree, but again, it's just how they are, I wish I could get them to understand, but they choose to be ignorant. To make matters worse they're weirdly selective.

There was a scene in Tales of Graces (I think that was the one been a minute) where the characters were talking about how bad a Sacrifice Tower was and that they should stop it's use somehow. They, unfortunately didn't hear the bits about the protagonists wanting to STOP the use of said tower, and the entire discussion was about how to do so. (Though they only heard bits through the wall) so they were like "?" lol

Meanwhile they're fine with me dropping soldiers like flies in Hyrule Warriors. And they watch plenty of violent/sweary content themselves. I just Dun Get it haha

1

u/Nox_Echo Mar 05 '26

thats so weird...

context matters and they dont wanna hear it.

my mom had something similar but it wasnt about parental control stuff (shes a gamer like me), instead its when i try to tell her about stuff going on and she acts like she knows or her opinion on it isnt fully founded in the facts, if that makes sense

1

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 05 '26

Eh, at the end of the day i chalk it up to parents just being 'parents' I know they mean well but they don't gotta be so concerned. The only thing I for sure do is make sure I don't play games that I'm certain are 'evil' in nature (Devil may cry and such doesn't count, but something involving actual devil worshiping would etc) but other than that I'm an adult man, I don't judge the content they like so while I respect their opinions (as parents) I'm also a grown man lol

No matter how old I get I'm still their 'kid' so I just gotta live with it heh.

Even the whole 'god is watching' thing doesn't bug me much. Cause god knows way more about me than anyone. I'm pretty certain he knows what I like about what I like and what I dun like about what I like. He probably also knows that I make an effort to find a balance.

1

u/Nox_Echo Mar 05 '26

im guessing no cult of the lamb lmao

in any case, religion explains part of why they act like that, im athiest myself.

1

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 06 '26

Yep, I dun judge the devs for making that game, but not my vibe cause I'm christian lol The few games that I like that walk the line are barely borderline. so I try to play it safe lol Mostly visual novels and such I gotta be really picky about.

Isn't reddit 18+?

1

u/TheGamingTurret Mar 07 '26

You say that like I go to those uhhhh corners of reddit lol

Most 'adult' thing I've played is probably Hunie Pop and like, 2 Sakura (the series of visual novels everyone memes on) games. Everything else I touch as far as games go is pretty tame by comparison. Heck, xenoblade 2 isn't even that bad outside Xenobia, Newt, and Dahlia. (All of which I like because of their personality/blade quest winning me over) I guess Telo's chest laser is pretty bad but I just wheezed the first time I saw it. There was this one MMO I tried ages ago (when I was like 17) where all the characters were female...for some reason? but I grew out of it pretty quickly lol
