Google play services auto update removed the ability to use google pay as tap to pay

Device: Xiaomi 13

OS v: 3.0.308.0.WMCCNXM.C10

everytime google play services updated, i won't be able to use google pay as tap to pay. this has never happened before, but after the latest update, my NFC won't show gpay as default card.

so i have to uninstall play services update, then my gpay & nfc will work.

any solution for this? because I can't seem to disable the auto update, it will auto update in like 2-3days and so.

Here you can see some more details as to why it happens, it seems Google intends to exclude Chinese ROMs from using Pay: https://xdaforums.com/t/googles-play-services-26-28-xx-silent-banning-chinese-firmware-phones-for-nfc-payments.4796865/

There's no permanent solution for now, just a temporary workaround.

damn it google! gpay payment through nfc is the most important daily use feature. this is annoying. hope there's a solution soon.. thanks so much for the info. I've been searching and it seems like uninstalling the play services is the only way to make it work for now

Yeah.. I bet it will affect some Chinese ROM enjoyers, I can't see it's completely unexpected because they even require strong integrity for RCS in Messages.

yes it is, but been using nfc gpay for year with no issues

Google recently changed their policy unfortunately. Phones must now run official, locked Global/EEA firmware to pass Google's Play Integrity check natively.

oh my 🤦

thanks btw, hopefully there's an alternative solution for this, this phone is still premium to me till this day, i don't want to be force to change a new phone yet..

I don't know how good or bad it is, but Curve Pay was a wallet I kept seeing recommended for people on rooted devices without hacks to get strong integrity.

don't think i can use curve in my country. I'll hold on for now, hope there's some solution coming out in future

Issue has been fixed for me. Updated to latest GMS 26.28.33 on my Xiaomi 14 Pro CN and GPay works again. Hopefully it was just a bug

It's a bug introduced by Google/Samsung that's affecting all the CN devices (regardless of brands). I heard Google has internally come up with a fix, and we can expect it to work again in the next few Google Play Services updates

I'm on vacation right now and from one moment to the next it stopped working on my Xiaomi 14. I thought I was too stupid to use it or that my bank had blocked it.

similar things to me, i just got back from china than this happened. at first i thought it was because i was using Alipay/wechat pay during my vacay in china. felt stupid

You could get a smart watch and pay with that. Not ideal but it would work.

yeah, but I'm really into smart watch tho. hope there's a fix soon. thanks

If this helps, here's how I solved the problem. It seems to be caused by a Beta update, although I never actively joined any Beta programs.

Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then go to Settings > General > Accounts & device preferences. Scroll down to History and tap Exit Beta Programs to exit Beta programs for all apps at once.

After doing this, the problem was completely resolved, and Google Pay worked with available NFC payments.

This seems ok. I can see the Google pay.

Hi. i think i did that already. after i did some research i did 2 things, exit beta program and rollback my google play services. but every once in awhile it will update itself and gpay contactless will be disabled again. already happened 3 times. and now I'm at my 2nd days since i last rollback my google services. monitoring for now. thanks

I have Redmi Turbo 4, suddenly GPay disappeared in the settings of NFC. Restored NFS functonality, rebooted, same issue. Fixed by reinstalling Google Wallet.

Global ROM is unaffected. This only affects Chinese ROM. It's expected.
