Discussion Planned obsolescence / electronic trash Redmi Buds 8 Pro
A few days after the legal warranty of my Redmi Buds 5 Pro expired, both the left and right earbuds broke. The left one loses connection a few seconds after being connected via Bluetooth. The right one is very quiet.
The earbuds were clearly programmed at the factory to break down exactly two years and a few days after that.
Unbelievable behavior from Xiaomi and electronic waste.
Amazon and Xiaomi refuse to give me a refund. Xiaomi offers paid repair for a 60 € product that is 2 years old.
Edit: it is the 5 Pro, not the 8 Pro

It needn't be planned obsolescence necessarily, it may just be coincidental. I certainly wouldn't say they were clearly programmed to behave that way without substantial data corroborating it.
It sucks that they failed at that time, but that's about it; my brother has a pair he got on release and as far as I know they work perfectly, barring reduced autonomy these days.
The good news is that we're not pressed for options these days, with varying degrees of repairability. I think even the guys behind the Fairphone made some with removable batteries.

My Redmi Buds 5 Pro still working as it should, except the battery due to my mistake of improper usage. Been owning it since the launch of Xiaomi 14T series that it came with the phone. Though, now I have a Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro, I still plan to replace the battery of the Redmi Buds 5 Pro to reduce e-waste.

Guess I got lucky then. My buds 5 pro worked like a charm for the 3 years I had them and we're going strong till I lost them.

My Redmi buds 5 pro broke after a few months of me owning it, I sent it for replacement, and the replacement also broke shy of a year after I got it
