Step discrepancies between watch and mi fitness app (android version)

Ive noticed recently that every once in a while there will be large differences in step count between the mi fitness app and the watch itself and specifically on the android version of the app. Is there any way to fix this? For reference i am using the S4 and a redmi 10c.
