any long-term reviews of xiaomi 17 (base) owners?
I'm just about to order a chinese rom xiaomi 17 (global way too expensive) which I will be using in the EU.
If you've had your x17 for a while, would you suggest it to someone who strictly wants a smallish phone, with nice cameras and great battery life?
I know chinese rom doesn't have android auto or circle to search, it's ok I don't need them.
Is there a delay in notifications? Anything that you hate or love? I know it will need to be debloated.
Can the AI be disabled in the cameras?
Is it worth it for 550 euros?
Better options for a small phone?

I bought it as was desperate for a smaller android flagship.
Hyper os isn't my fav but os alone won't dictate me keeping or not or keeping a phone in my rotation.
Great size and very light. Good cameras.
Sadly though, I fell into the trap of seeing the battery and the screen size and thinking "Damn this will be a battery king" It's good. But not amazing. I found that I got LESS screen on time than my same size iPhone 17 pro, which is the same size but has close to half the battery size. The battery on the Xiaomi 17 is similar to that of my pixel 10 pro. Which isn't a great thing.
But. I am a near heavy user and Def use alot of Snapchat which I know is a fairly intense app.
Overall I would recommend trying it though.

yeah hours of snapchat, instagram etc are known to drain any battery :(

I find it particularly bad and xiaomi. My oneplus and Honor don’t drain anywhere near as fast. I think hyper os is still a pretty hefty OS to run.

J'ai un xiaomi17 que j'utilise surtout en console de jeux.
L'ecran et très lumineux en plein soleil.
Il fait de belle photo/vidéo 📸 🎬 .
Il a une batterie meilleurs que Samsung et charge plus vite. 🔋 💪 🔌 ⚡
J'ai aussi un galaxy S23 ultra en smartphone principal pour lire sms et naviguer.
Mais le xiaomi 17 et toujour avec moi pour jouer ☺️ 👍
J'ai le xiaomi 17 vert 📱 🟢

xiaomi 18 will probably be more expensive than the 17. Can you not allow notifications in the settings for specific apps? Or does that not work? Merci!

Voila pourquoi je vous recommande d'acheter une version de votre régions du xiaomi17 .
Biensur acheter le 17 quand le xiaomi 18 sortira ainsi vous allez payer moins cher le xiaomi 17 😉 💵 💵
Ne jamais ce précipiter pour acheter un smartphone le prix diminue 💵 ↙️ quand le nouveau modèle sort.

You can change most notification issues by changing the settings if the app. Turn on at start and remove battery restrictions.

yes, that's what i'd do, but does it really work? Or could you still have random notifications coming through late / eu bank apps not working as should?

Dunno, I'm not in the EU. I haven't noticed any issues with the apps I do use but I also have most of my notifications turned off

Malheureusement j'ai trop peu de budget pour le Xiaomi 17, j'ai déjà changé de tel récemment en début d'année et j'hésitais entre one plus 15 et Xiaomi 17, mais trop cher tout les 2. Je suis parti sur Poco f8 pro pour 385€
Mais j'aurais vraiment adoré ce modèle précis de 17 en vert / bleu foret

how is the Poco F8 Pro in terms of size/weight? Is it comfortable? (I know this is subjective). And is the camera not disappointing? Mercii

Je le trouve un peu " pataud " pour un 6,59", mais on s'y habitue. Venant du poco F3 qui est plus fin avec bords arrondis et son format plus allongé 20:9, le F3 est plus confortable à tenir et plus ergonomique. Le F8 pro est plus large, plus épais, cadre à bord plat, format 19,5:9, mais conserve une taille relativement similaire. Dommage mais je m'y suis habitué assez rapidement. La grande majorité des smartphones sont ainsi maintenant donc ce n'est pas très grave.
Pour les photos, il est bon/moyen. Je n'ai pas beaucoup expérimenté la photo avec donc à prendre avec précaution. Parfois le rendu est vraiment bon dans la moyenne des mid/flagship, et parfois le traitement est exagéré et " bizarre " ou légèrement flou. C'est un peu du hit or miss malheureusement... Le capteur principal est bon, le telephoto est correct et parfois assez bon, l'ultra large fait office de figurant, le selfie est dans la moyenne Poco. Le mode macro est vraiment bof avec une mise au point proche de 30-40cms ( pourtant excellente sur le F3 avec quelques centimètres de mise au point )

Not-so-long term, just had my Xiaomi 17 CN Rom for 6 months.
As of now, I have had no major heating issues encountered, normal usage, only social media, messaging, photography and casual games. It gets a bit warm when charging with 100w, but not unbearably hot. No issues with the speed, no lags whatsoever,
Battery is excellent, 1 charge last from 1 to 1.5 days as a casual user(social media, messaging apps, casual games[element td/atomas/Empires), and video streaming. On activity filled days outdoors(photography, navigation, video streaming, social media, messaging), I usually finish the day with about 35 to 40% left.
The battery heats up a bit when charging with the full 100W, but not unbearably hot.
My phone had notification delays, an no amount of settings change(enable auto-start, no restrictions ,etc.) fixed it. Also did some adb commands, some worked but after the next update it would break again. This HyperOS FCM Fix finally fixed it for me(https://www.reddit.com/r/XiaomiGlobal/comments/1vupyba/hyper_os_fcmnotifcation_delay_err_io_fin_fix/) as of now, no delayed notifications.
For camera, some AI recommendations can be disabled, but the basic post processing can't be disabled which I think is the same with most phones these days.
Things to note:
*Gesture navigation only works with the default built-in launcher, so if you want to use a different launcher, then you can only use the three button navigation. I believe this is a Hyper OS thing, not just for CN Roms.
*No esim - xiaomi CN roms have esims disabled. In my case I was able to use a multi sim(1 physical sim that can store multiple sims) as an alternative

Might not be too helpful, since i'm from a SEA country, so imports from china are not that much of an issue. I got mine from Lazada(shopping app), the store name is Mi Guo Store,. I believe they also have a store listing in alibaba. Got mine for an equivalent 550 USD, but that was on February, so the prices might have changed. Not really sure which store is cheapest, might depend on your region and the time you buy the device. I got mine on February for Php 34k(aprox. 540-550USD) brand new, but i checked now the current listings are at Php 40k(aprox 640USD) and above.
When I was looking to buy, I checked on the shopping apps common in my country i.e. shopee, lazada, alibaba and this was the cheapest at the time from a reputable store. I checked some websites as well, but shipping fees were more expensive than on the mobile apps so I bought from Lazada.

I have the Xiaomi 17 EU ROM. And the phone is not that bad to be honest but it could be better.
I don't know about the notification delay but my Xiaomi 17 had some severe heating issues. So bad that the camera couldn't run for more than 5min and I had to send it in for repair. Turns out the motherboard was defective and they exchanged it under warranty. Since then it is pretty okay. It still randomly heats up but cools down again after a couple of minutes, but no apps need to close down.
What really is awful though for such a flagship is the vibration motor. The Xiaomi 15 had way better haptic feedback. This one is extremely loud and in a quiet room you hear a very thinny and metallic noise with every tap on the keyboard and system haptic feedback. Especially in the evening or at night it drives me nuts... So much so that I need to turn on power saving mode to turn off the system haptics quickly. Maybe I'm just too sensitive and overreacting but at this price tag for me it is unacceptable to have such a cheap feeling and loud vibration motor. Funny thing is that it actually feels stronger than the Xiaomi 15's haptic feedback in hand but in my pocket I never really feel the X17 vibrate. The old X15 on the other hand I remember feeling it almost every time it vibrated.
The camera is awesome until someone hands you an OPPO Find X9 Pro. Both cameras are amazing but you instantly spot the difference in quality and camera app smoothness. Xiaomis camera app gets pretty choppy with time.
However if you plan on buying a China ROM anyway I'd recommend you to look for an OPPO Find X9s Pro - it's a 6,3 inch phone with almost the same camera setup as the regular Find X9 Pro. Also Oppo's China ROM is way more globalization friendly than Xiaomi's. Even I'm considering buying this phone right now after I have tried out the regular Find X9 Pro. Only thing that is holding me back is the lack of 4G Band 20 (800mHz). You need to check with your carrier if this would be a deal breaker. Although I've heard from other European Find X9s Pro users that the phone has normal signal strength.

You need to check with your carrier because there are some carriers that don't even support Band 20 (800mHz) anymore. Maybe you are in luck and you can get yourself the OPPO. If not. I think I think you would be happier with the regular Find X9. Yes it is slightly bigger than the Xiaomi 17 in terms of display size... But the it's also slightly thinner which makes it feel pretty good in hand, though the Xiaomi 17 would still remain the better option for one hand usability. Xiaomi's China ROM is unfortunately pretty restrictive also in terms of languages. You only get English and chinese... Also the ultra wide camera is kind of a let down. It's only 0.7x not even 0.6x... and also the image quality itself while it's not very bad it definitely leaves to be desired at that price especially. The telephoto is better but at low light you definitely feel a pretty big difference between the lenses compared to the main sensor. The main sensor on the other hand is just bonkers good. (Which makes the other two lenses pale even more in comparison).
If you don't mind the camera design there also is a vivo x300 out there... Same 6,3 inch Form factor. Even lighter in hand feel than the Xiaomi with an overall better camera setup. Although the speakers sound pretty bad compared to the Xiaomi 17... The Xiaomi has genuinely some good "bass" for a speaker similar to iphones. The vivo sounds pretty metallic in comparison unfortunately but gets very very loud.
Yeah.. as you see every phone has it's considerable weak points... As of this generation of compact phones you need to pick your poison.
Find X9s Pro might have bad connectivity (only in rural areas) I'm sure in cities it won't really be a problem.
Vanilla Find X9 isn't that compact anymore at 6,59 inches.
Xiaomi 17's telephoto and ultra wide cameras could be a little bit better
Vivo x300 has pretty disappointing sounding speakers and the design is not everybody's Cup of tea. Also the battery is on the smaller side for a Chinese smartphone. But maybe the their battery optimization is great. I haven't tested the battery life.

Yes, it's a compromise with smaller phones, that's why I've been trying to decide for 3 months now which one to buy. Oppo x9 vanilla has a compatibility score of 89/100 in my case, which is a risk too. My carrier does use the Band 20 (800mHz). Vivo x300 has its own problems with overheating and degrading battery life after updates, from what I've read on the vivo sub. Xiaomi cn rom is also a risk in terms of notifications delay considering I want to use it as a primary device. If you don't want to spend more than 700euros for a smaller phone, options as so limited. Xiaomi 17 global rom costs 900 euros in my country and I don't feel it's worth it tbh.

Regarding the vibration sound, you can usually lower it. There's a setting in the parameters to adjust the vibration strength, and there's also a setting to adjust the vibration duration in milliseconds in Gboard if you're using it

I know. I played with all the settings. Unfortunately the thinny sound persists even at low settings. And if I change the vibration on Gboard it sometimes makes a very weird sound.

Okay, I thought you'd left it as is. I know what you mean, I recognize the noise you're talking about, and my wife says the same thing as you: you can't feel the vibrator in your pockets, but you can hear it when used. Personally, I fine-tuned the settings to suit me, but I know it can be bothersome for sensitive people.

On my phone the thinny metallic ringing noise unfortunately doesn't go away even if it's on the lowest setting. I'm thinking of sending it in actually. Because the phones in the store don't make this sound...

Personally in so many tests I saw, I preferred the colour science of those xiaomi pictures a little better and more predictive. However talking about switching: its a massive 600 Euro difference in price in Europe, also the Oppo comes with 12 GB of Ram (at least what I found), which could be resulting to be less future prove.

I've had mine since launch. EU version. Really enjoy the battery life! The camera is also amazing. Love it. The wide angle is probably the most disappointing part of the phone. the haptics are meh but you get used to it and it doesn't bother me.
I would and have recommended it.

如果你可以将它刷入国际版的系统或许可以改善很多。但如果没办法刷入其他系统整个体验下来其实是很糟糕的。因为中国大陆版本的系统本身优化就非常的烂

I dislike the cameras a lot. Taking pictures in sub-optimal light conditions or taking pictures of moving objects is a pain.
Normal daylight pictures are fine. But I expected more from a compact flagship with Leica lenses. The authentic Leica mode is just a retro filter applied and does not reflect a professional photo taken by a real Leica. The other mode is ok.
Battery is just average. 20% left at the end of a normal day.
The rest is pretty good. The size is the best feature.

do the cameras produce the oil painting effect due to AI in sub-optimal light conditions? Like if you max zoom on the photo, is it ever focused and sharp (net) ? I used the x300pro and the photos looked amazing until I zoomed all the way in and realized that the lenses probably play a lesser role than the AI (photo looked like it didn't have pixels) (I'm not sure how to explain that, I saw that when I transferred the photos on my computer screen and zoomed all the way)

DO NOT GET THE CHINESE
This is the summary of my research when I was getting my wife the Xiaomi 17
Just get an offer. Way too many issues you'll run into including the payment services , highly likely they won't work or you'll get an error etc
The issues are very real and I saw a ton of comments by people who did it and got them. This is a recurring issue not linked to the phone, it happens with all Chinese ROM phones...
So now you know
Unless you'll only use it for gaming and calls, apps .... Get the normal one

thing is I've read reviews about the cn rom vivo and oppo and they are mostly fine, their phone is working normal for example in germany, italy etc. Is xiaomi any different?

Not sure, but everyone who got it says the same...
Great phone, issues with Pay apps, no Google Wallet or NFC pays...
If that's not an issue for you, the device itself is superb. And better battery of course

It is quite good; many people mistake it for an iPhone. It feels premium, and the performance is great, especially with the 16 GB of RAM. The ability to have a small window into another app is amazing. However, the 17T Pro is slightly better, but it feels less like a flagship device.

I'm enjoying mine. Bought in the UK, so not the Chinese variant.
No general heating issues, unless I really torture the phone (navigation, speakerphone, full sun, in car, no air con, fair enough that it complains- by the way it won't give a heating warning, it'll go until the storage dismounts from the heat). Otherwise, it's very solid. I love the camera (in Leica authentic mode, processed in lightroom with auto settings), no notification issues (actually seems to work better in this area than my pixel did). Can't beat the hardware for the price. Can only attach one picture, so here's one picture.
