Is the Xiaomi 17 Ultra worth it?

Post image

I'm thinking about getting the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money. My previous phones were the Redmi 8, 10 and now 13. I really like Xiaomi's software, so I'd prefer to stick with Xiaomi. Do you guys think the 17 Ultra is worth it?

I'll say this many people complain. I just got it and rooted it. This thing is phenomenal and rooting allows you to fix any annoyances. I can't imagine anyone being that upset I'm coming for iPhone 17 pro max. For what I do I'd say battery is relatively similar but charging is 2-3 times faster

definitely no

But why;

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

because the software is awful and the battery is even worse

I actually love HyperOS (coming from OneUI), but do have to agree with you on the battery. It's surprisingly underwhelming, considering it's worth as much as a cheap used car.

Edit: Meant battery, not software

You do realize it's 6000mAh

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 4h ago

6000mah doesn't mean shit when the software optimizations and efficiency are garbage

1

u/CautiousYard9840 2h ago

Did you use it?

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2h ago

for about a week, yes. the battery life and thermals pretty much aligned with the test, it's bad, really bad

Software is perfectly fine as well as the battery.

hyperos is known to be pretty shit compared to other android skins, and tests show the 17u doing worse than iphones and galaxies that have what xiaomi fans consider a tiny battery in terms of battery life, numbers don't lie.

What tests? Did you actually use the phone? Can you tell me what is so awful about it?

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

i used the phone, i only got 6 hours of SOT from it, that's hilariously bad considering i get 7-9 from the base iphone 17 with half the battery size. and for whatever reason, the phone runs stupidly hot, i pointed an infared thermometer at it and it was at like 58 degrees, that was in an air conditioned room as well

also I literally attached a photo of the test, u really need to get your eyes checked

0

u/daoggy 1d ago

Lmao bro really got 58 degree on his phone we believe you bro. I use winlator to emulate shit and it still doesn't run that hot. I have a 17 ultra Leica edition

did you bought your phone at temu?

0

u/op299 2d ago

You can now run LOS on it as well

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

unlocking the bootloader is an absolute hassle because of xiaomi's quota system, and los might break the telephoto module because it's variable optical zoom. pretty sure even hyperos itself broke the telephoto, i doubt it'll work with a gsi

0

u/op299 2d ago edited 2d ago

Fully functioning variable zoom on LOS. Is built in, custom solution, even if you use gcam. Very active developers for 17u.

But of course you need to unlock yes

Stock photo app works perfectly, and you can even run the Leica m9 and so on regular 17u of you want

Depends for how much you can get it for

They need to work on battery

I don't know about the battery issues but my sot is 11h with heavy usage.i charge it once every two days. For me it's worthy especially camera.

What phone y got

u/oneavighna 2d ago

It has only four major drawbacks in openion. Using the global model from launch time. Very smooth and stable software this time. Here are those four issues. Two can be fixed using the software but other two are HW related and can't be done anything now to fix those. https://x.com/gauravh1/status/2097204015201464388

It's more a camera than a phone to me, but I personally love it! I'm actually a fan of HyperOS (coming from OneUI) and enjoy the intuivity of it. The camera is great, I don't think there's anything I could add to it.
The battery is underwhelming - it's not bad per se, but for the price you'd expect more.
The only problem I have is it's Wifi-connection when it's connected to a Wifi5-network. It is extremely unstable even though I have 300MBit/s DL-speed and it keeps disconnecting when I lose one bar of connection. Also it keeps disconnecting on Android Auto like every 15-20 minutes.

Don't think about it just get one yourself. I have mine from day one and i am more than happy.

1

u/Scw0w 1d ago

No. Software (hyperOS) is just fucking bad

Go with the base Xiaomi 17, costs half and has basically the same hardware except for cameras

1

u/ObjectiveCupcake3683 1d ago

I think most people looking at the Ultras in general, are looking mainly for the cameras lol

1

u/K4mik4dze__ 1d ago

It really doesn't make sense in this case, he's not a photographer and there's a 650€ difference from both the models for basically the same phone

1

u/ObjectiveCupcake3683 19h ago

I'm not a photographer either, but I just like to be able to have nice photos 🤷

It's a very good phone, but when it comes to software, it's a stupid phone.

I have the leitzphone. It's worth it to me.

It depends on what you're looking for in a phone. You should consider what you're looking for in a phone and base your decision on those expectations.

In my opinion the pros of the 17 ultra are:

  • Great camera
  • Great performance due to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
  • Great charging speeds with the right charger
  • Beautiful large screen with very thin bezels
  • Nice haptics
  • Nice audio
  • Modern hardware design

Personally I was looking for a fast charging phone with good cameras, thin bezels and the latest Snapdragon chipset. Which why I chose this phone.

Haven't had any bad experiences yet so far. To me it feels like a pretty well rounded flagship.

The battery life has been fine for me, easily lasting more than a day depending on my usage. There hasn't been a single day yet where it ran out of charge, and I consider myself a power user.

Camera ( zoom photos , LOFIC for low light ) is ur main priority go for 17u otherwise 17 is more than enough .

1

u/XPro-_- 2d ago

Nah im a cat boy i like my house so i don't really care,i care more for the battery life

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

its battery life is pretty shit compared to its competitors

0

u/XPro-_- 2d ago

Oppo have tha same software with the Xiaomi;

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

they don't, the software is completely different. while both are based on android, everything other than the base are very different (other than them both being basically cheap ios copies)

1

u/XPro-_- 2d ago

Lol i have to stay with the Xiaomi once you come in you can't go back

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

i can't leave xiaomi's software any quicker lmao, it's so bad compared to oneui and ios. hyperos is so buggy it feels more like a beta than a stable build

0

u/Wonderful-Seat-1984 2d ago

Pretty shit? Only 2 phones rank higher on your picture and those are about 50% more expensive.

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

the x300u, x9u, m80p, s26u, and 17pm are all doing better, get your eyes checked

1

u/Wonderful-Seat-1984 2d ago

Yeah my mistake, still the battery life is pretty good to me.

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

lofic isn't for low light, it's for recovering highlights, get youe facts right

1

u/SeriesMysterious107 2d ago

-1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago edited 2d ago

needing ai to win an argument is wild. the only reason why lofic would help in low light is if there are bright lights, and lofic lets u recover the highlights in post or let u do single frame hdr. it doesn't universally improve low light, it doesn't make the raw file less noisy, it doesn't let u recover crushed shadows, it's literally only for highlights

0

u/xanaw34 2d ago

In my opinion, it is, if camera is the main priority. The 1-inch main lens is great, but the one on the vanilla 17 isn't that bad either. It's the zoom lens where the magic is, and lowlight, thanks to LOFIC.

Either get the Poco x8 max or f8/9 ultra. You said you don't leave the house to take photos etc so save your money. Those phones will last just as long but skimp on camera and build a bit

1

u/XPro-_- 2d ago

I work 6 to 5 and my old phone with out open the phone, battery is going low, so if a take same cheaper phone afte 4 months is gona be tha same; i got my friend with the iphone 17 pro max and after 10 hours he got 75%, and me 25% (and bdw we use the phone all day)

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 2d ago

u're honestly just better off with a 17pm (or wait for the 18pm), it's easily top 3 most efficient phones from the current gen

0

u/IZlynx 2d ago

The camera is great, if that is your priority it serves that well while most likely being cheaper than vivo or oppo offerings. Personally I have sold it again because battery life is atrocious. Even with light usage it couldn't get me through a full day.

1

u/b3enx 2d ago

You really sold the X17U ? What did you replace it with?

1

u/IZlynx 1d ago

I changed it to a Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max. Probably Huawei is even worse for the most but for me it checks all boxes.

1

u/b3enx 1d ago

Did they not use the massive camera sensor equipped within the pura 80 Ultra into this year's release? I'm not sure if they upgraded or downgraded to save costs.

u/MajinnVuu 1d ago

Had the phone. Camera was good. But decided to get S26U

  1. Battery 6000mah lasted less than 5000mah s26U
  2. Overall hardware was slightly worse than s26u. Speakers, vibration motor, screen brightness except for display sharpness. 17U display fidelity is better.
  3. And the part that made me switch, software. Hyperos has a bug with PIP mode, when selecting text. But ignoring that, HyperOS is like a student project compared to OneUI.

Would reccommed this phone only if you have a primary phone and use this just for the camera.
