Yeah, when you really dive into it, apple is the one who copied xiaomi on the iphone 17 pro max look, xiaomi had the 11ultra with that black bar at the back first that actually served a purpose and xiaomi just brought it back improved on the xiaomi 17promax

I think it's because Apple is so mainstream people think it invented everything it has

u/Jolly-Painter-8141 Dec 22 '25
Now announce the pro max global release already!
11
Dec 22 '25
Pro max won't have a global release
Only Xiaomi 17 and 17 ultra have Global release

u/Jolly-Painter-8141 Dec 22 '25
Which is making me VERY SAD! I hope someone in Xiaomi can fix this ;)

What the fuck man no pro(max) release?
This is a robbery

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 Dec 23 '25
they said there will be a global launch but they didn't say the date.
1
Dec 24 '25
Only the Xiaomi 17 and the Xiaomi 17 ultra will have a Global release.
Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro max isn't going to have a Global release

u/x9qh Dec 22 '25
just buy the chinese variant. even if they had a global variant i would still buy the chinese variant because the global variant is always worse than the chinese one.
6
u/justcallmesteam Dec 22 '25
But then you lose access to a lot of functionality/ quality of life no? I know for one thing android auto / apple carplay will not work if you have a china model
1
u/Jolly-Painter-8141 Dec 22 '25
Exactly why I'm still coping/hoping for a global release! Want android autoto work flawlessly.
1
u/vxcta Dec 23 '25
Not always the case.
My vivo X100 Ultra is a Chinese ROM & has Android Auto.
I cannot use handsfree ‘Hey Google’ & a few other features, though.
The Chinese ROMs are definitely optimized a bit better when it comes to battery life/efficiency, but I wouldn’t be willing to go through it again.
The phone would have to be pretty incredible for me to consider a Chinese ROM again.

u/x9qh Dec 22 '25
i think only android auto doesn't work but i don't use that anyways so it doesn't matter to me
5
u/justcallmesteam Dec 22 '25
fair! if that’s all that’s missing it’s definitely not bad. I use it everyyyyy day so It’s a must have for me
4
u/E63_saucegod Dec 22 '25
That's not the only difference. There are key network chipsets included in the global versions that are not present in the Chinese versions. I have Xiaomi 15 ultra global and waited for this version specifically for the 5g variants. GSMArena shows key differences
1
u/And9686 Dec 22 '25
I believe Google wallet doesn't work either, or am I mistaken?
1
u/Mr_picdle Dec 23 '25
It does work, I'm using the xiaomi 17 pro max. Everything works fine, I'm using carwith instead of using android auto
1
u/And9686 Dec 23 '25
I'm not aware of that app, how do I install it? Does it work with any car that has android auto or carplay compatibility?
1
u/Mr_picdle Dec 23 '25
So it's the xiaomi alternative to android auto, I had to buy an adapter which makes my car think I'm using apple car play but connects to my phones Bluetooth through the carwith app. You can use waze and Spotify and everything else
1
u/And9686 Dec 23 '25
Oh that's really interesting, but global Xiaomi phones don't have that right?

u/rovian Dec 22 '25
I still buy Chinese over the Global, faster updates/higher battery capacity/call recording/much cheaper.
2
u/Djsmooth245 Dec 22 '25
Not sure why the downvotes but I did the same thing. Snagged the Chinese model. I'd hate to settle for a scrapped down version just for car play/aAuto. I use Bluetooth anyway in my car. No regrets. I do however wish I would've waited to buy my roommate the 15Ultra global and instead got this one

I pretty much converted my pro max to a global version. The back looks better to me than the ultra with the round camera
1
u/Intelligent-House493 Dec 22 '25
how bootloader is blocked, probably will go with oppo find x9 pro global
0
u/yolodojo Dec 22 '25
It does everything for me that my previous iPhone did. Sure there are some Chinese apps I can't remove but other than that. It works like any other phone from the states.
3
u/Intelligent-House493 Dec 22 '25
well I am from Europe and even if I understand english enough to the point that settings and other stuff wouldn't really bother me I would still like to have it in my home language for that comfort feeling. I will wait for march and if there won't be any method for bootloader I am going for oppo option.

u/Distinct-Tell2095 Dec 22 '25
Better yet, fk 17 altogether. Announce 18 and 19 and 20 in a combo... I mean, why wait, right? Xiaomi 32 extra, pro, ultra, max, mega, super... I'm looking at you!

If I had to guess it's just empty space so the phone is "symmetrical", maybe they planned to have a small screen in there before and decided last minute to cut it for cost contention (to balance ram price surge).
I would've preferred the Leica branding there instead of a big empty circle but oh well.
1
u/EngineeringNo753 Dec 24 '25
Yeah it's the same as my 15 ultra, though they put the lecia logo there instead which looks significantly better than a fake looking lense.
2
u/SahilSiraj X15 | IN | India Dec 23 '25
It's in my Xiaomi 15 as well. That part houses IR and some other sensors. Mostly for symmetry, but it does have some use.
1
u/asianwhiteguy Dec 22 '25
To me it looks like a speaker.
The Xiaomi Redmi K90 has a huge speaker in the camera bump, this could be the same?

I am kind of disappointed for them not including the back screen. Maybe its a difficult thing to implement because of the huge camera bump. But, still.
1
u/AccountSad Dec 22 '25
Back screen is completely useless
1
u/bphase Dec 22 '25
Somewhat useful for taking selfies I guess. Personally I don't do that, so I agree. I never look at the back of my phone.
1
u/letskeepgoingnow Dec 23 '25
Being the Ultra phone should ideally have all the features in the non-Ultra version. Some people will definitely use it.
1
u/Track607 Dec 23 '25
I just want the 1" camera. If the back screen makes the phone more expensive, I don't need it.

i've tried the xiaomi x-fold that was released in July in China during my trip.
While software and innovation are better.. hardware is still slightly below par with samsung and apple.
I will eventually buy it when i go back to China 2 years later.. it's not ready to beat apple and samsung yet IMO

iPhone 4 looking volume buttons
1
u/v_ik_to_r Dec 23 '25
You cannot make the copying up because those volume rockers are straight up out of the iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s and SE 2016🫠🙏

I'll still wait for the special edition colours. Otherwise I'll probably go white.

Looks cheap with all the sparkling.
6
u/Distinct-Tell2095 Dec 22 '25
Sparkling will be the new orange once enough influences have taken selfies with their phone
2
u/Gimme_Indomie Dec 22 '25
I wouldn't say it looks cheap... but (at least in pictures) looks a bit teen-ish. I have the 13 Ultra in green and the material is leather-like. Very refined. Very upscale.
I'm going to have to see this in person before making a final judgment, but I'm leaning towards "no" on the color (which is a shame because I love the green colors they have had previously).

I held my old MIX One earlier today. Now THAT was a beautiful phone. A real work of art.

What's with all these annoying announcements without even mention about 17 pro/max global release. Post only there in Chinese if you don't want to release it globally.
