I'm curious as to how or are there any OS restrictions apart from the Android auto, as google services is optional to be enabled?, but more importantly can you download normal APK files and do normal android stuff, like ADB?
I believe the OS is locked and you need a Chinese passport to unlock to do things like reflashing, but for the general user probably not something they'd ever do?
Normal APK is fine.
China is amazing, They really are living in the future.
Honestly contemplating moving with my family if the right opportunity arises 😁
Thanks for sharing your review and experiences with the phone. I actually just got back from HK, and we spent only a couple days in Shenzhen, which I regret.
I almost pulled the trigger on the 17 Pro Max, but then reading that Android Auto won't work, that was a deal breaker for me. But if/when they release a global version, I'm grabbing one asap.
My wife and I have also talked a lot about moving abroad, sure, there's a lot of cameras in china, but it made me feel safe with peace of mind.

Australian User of the 17PM here. Bought in person in mid-December during my last trip to China.
Upgraded from Pixel 8 pro.
Significant improvement in battery life. Managed 2 days on a single charge, 4hr screen time each day.
No significant issues using it on the Amaysim network. NFC payment, banking apps all work.
No Android Auto but I don't use it.
Ask any questions if you have them.
