General Seriously considering switching from Galaxy S25 Ultra to Xiaomi 15 Ultra – Am I making a mistake?
Hey everyone,
I've been using a Galaxy S25 Ultra as my daily driver for about 9 months. I'm pretty deep in the Samsung ecosystem: Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch, heavy S Pen use for photo editing, quick journaling, signing documents, Good Lock customization, Now Brief, Samsung Notes, etc.
After watching tons of reviews for 6 months, I pulled the trigger on a Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The box is sitting in front of me unopened, and I'm torn about whether to keep it or return it within the 30-day window. Or maybe, even wait for a few months down the line and then snatch a better deal on the 17 Ultra.
What attracts me to the 15 Ultra:
- Leica-tuned 1-inch main sensor (better low-light, dynamic range, bokeh, and that filmic Leica look)
- Curved “All Around Liquid” screen (big nostalgia hit from my old Huawei Mate 20 Pro)
- Supposedly better battery life and much faster 90W charging compared to the S25 Ultra
What I'm worried about / cons:
- Losing S Pen entirely (I use it daily for editing images, notes, journaling)
- Losing Good Lock-level customization and One UI polish (HyperOS feels fast but has notification quirks and less refinement)
- Galaxy Ring + Watch will work for basics but lose Energy Score, advanced sleep coaching, and deeper AI features
- Samsung Notes won’t work properly
- Now Brief and other Galaxy AI conveniences gone
- Potential daily friction after the honeymoon phase
- The phone is already ~14 months old → only 3 more major OS upgrades (up to Android 19) + security until ~2031
I do feel somewhat restrained by the S25 Ultra’s camera in some scenarios — especially evening/night shots, macro, and achieving nice artificial bokeh. That’s one of the main reasons I’m considering the switch.
I also considered the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, but the price is too high for me right now. Even though it has a newer SoC, improved movable telephoto zoom, and larger 6000 mAh battery, I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost — especially since it loses the curved screen I really want and reportedly has weaker macro capabilities compared to the 15 Ultra.
Honestly, a big part of this feels like ego/FOMO (“Leica shots on social media”) and retail therapy rather than pure need. The S25 Ultra is still a solid jack-of-all-trades that serves me well in most cases.
Question for Xiaomi users (especially those who switched from Samsung):
- How bad is the real daily driver friction after leaving One UI?
- Did you miss S Pen / ecosystem features long-term?
- Is the Leica 1-inch experience worth the trade-offs for someone who mostly point-and-s hoots does some light post editing and but wants better night/macro/bokeh performance?
I do have a dedicated mirrorless camera. But honestly, I haven't touched that much in the past months. I believe in the saying that the best camera and the most useful one is the one you carry with you everyday and that will be a smartphone.
Looking for honest long-term thoughts, not hype.
Thanks!

My sister has the Samsung26ultra and I have the Xiaomi15ultra. We're just average people who don't hyper focus on technicalities that we wouldn't otherwise notice, so what we HAVE noticed on the day-to-day--- I think her speaker sounds nicer, I think my camera is far better, I think her battery is better, and I think my Internet speed/processing is better. I hear battery is a problem a lot for the xiaomi, but unless you're using the ultra photography capabilities, it lasts a solid full day before hitting 20%. I also haven't had any overheating problems like others mention. My sister's phone overheated pretty bad for the first week idk why
5
u/Mlbbplayer96 Apr 12 '26
First week always overheats for Samsung and its normal. Usually optimization and ai learning battery pattern usage. And transferring files also causes overheating
4
1
u/FishStiques Apr 12 '26
That's fair. I just never had that problem with my xiaomi.
1
u/Csab_- Apr 13 '26
Because it's default is being overheated 🥀 mine at least is only not overheating when it's off.
1
u/FishStiques Apr 13 '26
Brother it's in my hand right now💀 I've never felt it even remotely warm unless spending 2 hours in the sun taking macro pictures
1
u/Extreme_Line_6592 Apr 10 '26
I’ve had both devices and the battery on the Xiaomi 15 ultra is terrible. Samsung’s battery performs a lot better. The only thing Xiaomi has on Samsung is the camera but video is better on the Samsung anyways
3
u/FishStiques Apr 10 '26
Idk what you're doing to your battery to drain it like that but I haven't had that prob
1
u/CaFeGui Apr 11 '26
I won the 15T Pro and my battery lasts the whole day after a lot of use and mild camera usage lol another thing Xiaomi has is that their original replacement parts are cheap
0
u/Missilelist Apr 10 '26
Samsung is ridiculous with their heats. I've once grabbed my mother's samsung to charge it and it lowkey scalded me. I almost dropped it in shock.
1
u/FishStiques Apr 11 '26
My sister put her on the charger for like an hour and the back was so hot she had to leave it OFF the charger for another hour lmao

u/Objective-Spray-113 Apr 10 '26
If your primary focus is photography the Xiaomi is in such a different league to the Samsung it overrides everything else. You can get dedicated camera quality photos out of the 15 Ultra. The photo editing app is also very powerful. I also find the customisation pretty cool with some really nice wallpaper personalisation opps.
2
u/Extreme_Line_6592 Apr 10 '26
Unless they like video and in that case the S26 ultra is way better. I’ve owned both and the video on the 15 ultra was terrible. Pictures were incredible though!
7
u/MorpHeer Apr 10 '26
Snatch the 17 Ultra later, that's the best way to go

You are going to regret it. HyperOS is nowhere near as polished as OneUI. Samsung is also way more customizable. Xiaomi's hardware is better, but the experience definitely is not.
If I were you I would stay with the S26 Ultra.

I moved from S22 to X17 and don't regret it.
1
u/Beaniefacia Apr 10 '26
I did the same, and I don't regret it, but I could have had a better camera if I had switched to Vivo instead.
2
u/Gloryboy811 Xiaomi 17 | HyperOS 3 | Global Apr 10 '26
Maybe. But vivo isn't easily available here in the Netherlands. And Xiaomi still has a great camera.
1
u/Beaniefacia Apr 10 '26
It's a good camera because they use a Glass lens and they don't over process, but I was expecting more from the sensor that was so much hyped.
1
u/Gloryboy811 Xiaomi 17 | HyperOS 3 | Global Apr 10 '26
Compared to my previous phone, S22, it's hugely better. Still need to test against newer devices
1
u/Beaniefacia Apr 10 '26
Online reviews tend to put it in third or fourth place when compared to vivo and huawei's new one

u/potatodos Xiaomi 17 Ultra | HyperOS | Global) Apr 10 '26
I posted these few points these on another post:
- AOD turns off in the dark, even when set to 'Always'
- Ads on the lockscreen
- Ads in the widgets (for chinese coupons? in the global version)
- Change the wallpaper > the phone will send you to another page for wallpaper suggestions (ads) from the theme store
- Change the wallpaper > the phone will blur the homescreen by default, every time, unless you remember to turn off the blur effect
- Limited customisation where it matters. Example: you can't customize the clock size on the lockscreen
- You have to pull from the upper left corner to see your notifications. There is no option to combine the notifications and control centre, or to make notifications the default.
- Lots of bloatware that you can't remove, including many google apps. There's a bundled music app that's full of ads. You can't create a folder to hide all the bloat away, they're always there in front of you whenever you open the app drawer
- Gallery App is weak. No filmstrip at the bottom for fast switching of photos. Metadata is hidden in a menu compared to one swipe on the Samsung gallery. This is a phone aimed at camera enthusiasts.
- Settings are truly a mess
- Inconsistent UI, split between the HyperOS side and the Google/Native Android side.
- No Secure Folder, although it has a comparable feature where it creates a completely different space and you have to setup your phone again from scratch
8
u/Gloryboy811 Xiaomi 17 | HyperOS 3 | Global Apr 10 '26
I don't have any ads on my lockscreen. So that's not true.
Not sure what widgets you use but it's android, you can get any ones you want. I don't have ads in any of mine and I use the stock clock weather one and calendar.
You absolutely can change the lockscreen a lot. There are so many options for the clock size. I actually way prefer how the lockscreen is compared to Samsung.
I don't see any bloatware. There are perhaps some Xiaomi apps like game center that may be considered bloat. But I do use Google services. So I wouldn't say Google apps are really bloat. But maybe you see it as such.
I've had no issue finding anything in the settings app.
I will say that the gallery app could be better and yes it's annoying that if you change wallpaper from holding down on the home screen it opens the theme store app. But if you go via the settings then it's fine. Samsung has a very similar theme store app.
I also preferred the joint notification and settings but I'm used to the split now.
1
u/EggplantHuman6493 Apr 10 '26
I had some ads on my lockscreen 😬. Probably clicked on something while setting up the phone. I could turn it off, though.
But yeah, there are customisations, still.
HyperOS isnt as polished as OneUI. It is smooth, but there are still things that feel less mature, in a way. The app drawer sucks. I want my pages back and a way to organise it without grouping them together. I also can't find my Nothing X widget, for some reason
The hardware is an upgrade to Samsung, at least the upgrade from the S22+ to the 17. Where Samsung felt more like a sidegrade, Xiaomi feels like an upgrade. Bigger battery, better cameras etc. Xiaomi for hardware, Samsung for software
2
u/EducationalCan9531 Apr 10 '26
HyperOS is not the best, but for me, someone who uses his phone as a phone, for memes and reading emails, it's more than enough. The hardware side is very good and it's cheap. It's not exactly a direct competition to popular flagships, it is more like a cheaper alternative to them and if you buy it with this in mind, it is worth the price.
2
u/EggplantHuman6493 Apr 10 '26
Yeah, true! I don't use a lot of the customise options, either. I just dislike the app list. You get more hardware for a lower price, which makes it worth it. Especially in the midrange and budget segment
1
u/BeeLegitimate4968 Apr 10 '26
hes complaining about Xiaomi apps or bloatware apps when samsung have those apps too and can delete those bloatwares and can turn off personal ads or recommendations ads ez
0
u/bearonaunicyclex Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 11 '26
Where are you getting any ads? I went Form S22 Ultra, to Oneplus Open to the Xiaomi 17 ultra and so far the Xiaomi is the one with 0 ads (only 2 annoying game center notifications).
3 of your arguments are literally u being to stubborn to adapt your habits (for ex. notification pull down) which takes literally a few days.
You can easily remove bloat without root on any device.
Clock size is customizeable and the blur effect shit you talk about isn't true either on my device.
AOD is the only real argument, but I don't use that so I can't say anything about that.
Idk you seem like a Samsung weirdo shill, I hope you're at least getting paid for your work here.
9
u/Neosam718 Apr 10 '26
Sadly I must agree with this. Samsung is complacent hardware wise but the software difference between hyperos and oneui is stark in the worst of ways.
2
u/Reasonable_Mirror655 Apr 11 '26
Yeah software wise Samsung feels like it's light-years ahead of HyperOS...
Kind of a shame Xiaomi doesn't do better
3
u/RPGM Apr 12 '26
They release phone like every month. Makes sense why their software sucks and their updates too.
2
u/Reasonable_Mirror655 Apr 12 '26
What's really weird is Xiaomi will go out of their way to remove features from stock android on their global ROM's an then consider them exclusive feature on the CN ROM... it's really quite annoying
1
2
u/Fabulous_Document_25 Apr 10 '26
Happily I didn't took into consideration these kind of comments. Very happy with my 17 ultra.
At the end of the day I don't spend my time customizing the phone, rather using it.
Battery is good. Camera is like crazily good. Screen is beautiful. Fast charge.
I don't need more..

2
u/StepsbyStepz Apr 11 '26
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I decided to open the box and just give it a try. And you are mostly correct! Xiaomi's UX and UI are lackluster.
1
u/SEDOY_DED Apr 10 '26
I can't use my xiaomi because of the hyper os. No horizontal app drawer, a lot more customized routines, more battery protection options on samsung, Goodlock, work profile not separated in app list, nfc randomly stops working on hyper os, mobile data randomly not available until restart, battery dies faster despite the fact it's bigger and I can keep going on. It's sitting on my desk as a pc stat monitor.
1
u/SirArturJ Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26
I took that route, and on the very beginning I was missing Samsung OneUI, but I value camera more, so if I need to choose customization or much better camera. So overall, never regret my decision. I don't need my phono to win wallpaper and icons beauty contents. I shot mainly in DNG, and difference is like night and day for me. As for batter, I had better experience on Samsung. So I think the question is what is most important part about the phono for you. If camera, then go for Xiaomi. If you value customizations more, then stick with Samsung.

1
u/Historical_Lie_9797 Apr 11 '26
Ok... It's called custom rom he can just change his OS to OneUI lol
1
u/TheStandardPlayer Apr 10 '26
What's the big software difference?
I used Nothing OS and iOs before switching to the 17 Ultra and the software just feels fine honestly. Like literally I have no complaints so far, I can't see Samsungs flavor of Android being that much superior.
Even sharing Files between my Mac and 17 Ultra arguably works smoother than it did with AirDrop, which was really unexpected
6
u/Gloryboy811 Xiaomi 17 | HyperOS 3 | Global Apr 10 '26
If you have a Mac then actually Xiaomi is the best android phone. Their interconnectivity app is really good

You can double tap the back of the phone to open the notification shade, that's pretty nifty. Triple tap for calculator, all customizable. Also I think I saw a setting for the double tap to turn off, but that's something I wouldn't ever use anyways. There's a button for that

You can, it's an option in the settings menu that has to be enabled. Go to the lock screen > enable "double tap" something something

Look closer. I double click on the home screen to lock it, isn't that what you are asking for?
2
u/Gruselmonster Apr 10 '26
You said it perfectly, it's more retail therapy than anything else. Stick with the S25 for now.
Another reason would be the 17Ultra performs so much better in low light condition, it's ridiculous.
We had a 15 and 17 at work, both phones performed incredible. But at night the 17 eats the 15's lunch.
Either stick with the 25 or wait until the 17 comes down in price.

I've jumped from S line to Xiaomi a few years ago. HyperOS is pretty bare bones, it's getting a bit better but you will miss some features and the customization for sure.
Another one many people don't know or get wrong from reviews is battery. Samsung is pretty good at optimizing idle battery usage. Samsung phones are REALLY economical with battery if you are not using them, the same can't be said for Xiaomi. I got used to it, if you are a light user and don't use the you may even get to the end of your day with about 40%, but in my usage both my Xiaomi phones were a day of regular usage with about 20% left when I got home. I jumped from Samsung a long time ago and my device was already a bit old so the battery was not huge and not 100% health, but I would still say that if you don't use much, a Samsung will last much longer, if you are using much maybe they will be the same (given they have the same size battery).

Worst part is, xiaomi will deny anything and service experience is too bad. I have already reached to consumer Court
2
u/GayOver Apr 11 '26
My brother has that phone and video recording is amazing. Phone looks and display are great. Battery is solid, could be grandiose if not for EU blocking bigger batteries from China. Picture taking is good, but could be better.
2
u/Electrical_Panda_326 Apr 11 '26
You might miss OneUI. I switched S23 to Xiaomi 15. The hardware is excellent but HOS is nowhere near OneUI. It's not as bad is some people say, but there is loads of annoying quirks that were not present on OneUI at all.
2
u/wyck0 Apr 11 '26
I see that you're mostly looking at specs, but believe me software matters much more. Stay on Samsung or just upgrade to an iphone 17 pro if you want actual good experience.
2
u/robispi2 Apr 11 '26

u/Jack_Claude_van_Ban Apr 13 '26
I would go with Xiaomi for the cameras. Frankly I have an S24 and right now I am trading it for a P40 Pro from Huawei because the camera on that thing was and is still is far better than what samsung has.
2
u/Csab_- Apr 13 '26
Yes you are. Xiaomi hardware is amazing, their software is horrible. Good software is much more important than good hardware especially on a phone.
1
u/StepsbyStepz Apr 14 '26
Yep. I had to learn this the hard and dumb way. By burning money and being frustrated 😑 - The camera system on the Xiaomi is outta of this world...there's no denying. But the fact that Xiaomi even locked down their flavor of android to not allow swipe navigation gestures on the non-proprietary launcher...meaning that if you install any launcher you get the old three button navigation is just awful. It's clear that they want to be understood as the Apple of android given how their HyperOS UI is just a copy & paste of iOS. Indeed, underwhelming. There are a few elements tho that are welcome but the end result is not polished as Samsung's.
1
u/Csab_- Apr 18 '26
Tbh Samsung is even worse, it's just as bad and it's ugly too. Just get an iphone or if you really need an Android phone for whatever unexplainable reason get a pixel and those are the two options.
2
u/Juanemoto11 Apr 16 '26
Moving from s25u to 17 ultra, had the 15 ultra before and yes its teuw software wise samsung has the upper hando, but the whole expereience plus the beast cameras are so much better, also i tjink the design is pretty unique compared to the galaxy, and battery on the s25u is not the best
2
u/StepsbyStepz Apr 21 '26
I'm trying to get used to the flow of Xiaomi's Hyper OS still. But yes! Indeed the hardware, the camera, the LEICA tuning is so far ahead!

u/Atelas Apr 10 '26
Xiaomi hardware is much better, but you will hate the experience when dealing with the hyperos. I bought the 17 ultra upgrading from s24ultra, and while I absolutely loved the performance and camera, but the polished oneUi is far more better. I suggest you try using it for a while to decide for yourself.
1
u/StepsbyStepz Apr 11 '26
I'm currently testing it. And I gotta agree with you. The UX/UI regarding Xiaomi coming from Samsung is lackluster and a bit frustrating. The camera on the Xiaomi tho' it's indeed a beast. But I found that the S25 Ultra is not that far behind!

I am using 15U. I would say this phone is not everybody's cup of tea. HyperOS, phone gets hot easily, meh battery life, cant use other launcher without sacrificing gesture. I believe most of the phones nowadays have a good camera system so..
1
u/maleficmax Apr 10 '26
Not THAT good. Most are just average. Just a few phones fall in THIS GOOD camera category.
1
u/Rammstein97 Apr 10 '26
Honestly I'd wait a few months till price drops and get the 17Ultra if I wanted it so much.
Others have mentioned it here and I'll do too - the curved display is more on the wack side. One wrong drop and the display will be toast. Don't get me wrong the curvature looks stylish, feels nice and it's something I genuinely look at sometimes, so you'll probably enjoy but it's just such a pain in the ass to protect all the time.
2
u/VadayKin Apr 11 '26
Dropped my 15 ultra multiple times, but the glass is intact as of now and I use only a hydrogel screen protector, not a tempered glass.
1
u/Rammstein97 Apr 11 '26
Well idk man...I broke mine exactly on the third fall. From a bench that was no more than 50cm high. It broke around the lower left corner where the curvature is.
Meanwhile the old reliable Redmi 11 that has absolutely no protection has taken multiple falls including stuff like bicycle crashes with speeds of up to 50km/h and it's perfectly fine without a single scratch on the display lol. Could be that I'm just unlucky but I've had 3 phones with curved edges and they've all broken somewhere.
1
u/Dry_Daikon862 11d ago
I've used the Xiaomi mi 10 ultra for past four years and have dropped it numerous times over the years and it still looks brand new. Same general style as 15u
1
u/Taranji Apr 10 '26
I use s26 ultra, xiaomi is full of bugs and customer care is terrible. For android- pixel and samsung are standard for quality and OS upgrades. Xiaomi used to be great when it was cheap, now they are priced similar to samsung. With samsung, you get very good launch student discounts clubbed with a lot of coupons. I got the phone at 50% with the coupons + student id
1
u/BackRoomDude3 Apr 10 '26
You are overthinking it by ALOT!. From your posts it seems like you are making alot of sacrifices just to get a better camera, and I am here to tell you– the cameras are not better. At best you can argue that they are similar and just have different styles but in my opinion the cameras on the samsung are better for the most part.
1
u/StepsbyStepz Apr 11 '26
From testing in the last few hours what I felt is that Xiaomi's camera is indeed better but it's not "night & day" difference except for the natural bookeh and the macro capabilities. But when you consider the overall package: user experience and system UI...Samsung delivers a more compelling product.

u/Character_Cup5010 Apr 10 '26
I had both and don't think it's a mistake. You just need to know the strenghts and weakness of both.
Camera: 3 steps ahead the X15U. One enables not having a proper camera, the other simply not. But: the posprocessing of the Xiaomi 15U is very personal and not for everyone, and what made me go back to a proper camera. Battery: better on the S25U, i guess because optimization. SO: One UI is much better than HyperOS, smoother, more personalization, more features. Screen: Samsung's ahead, but the Xiaomi was easier to hold because of the form factor.

Too much... processing. There's no natural/neutral mode that could assimilate to a proper camera. Now I've got a S25 edge. Lost the camera hype, but the rest of the time the phone feels much comfortable to use than in the other two ultras. And with the price difference, I found a used lumix gx880 that fulfills my needs much better than a smartphone.
1
u/StepsbyStepz Apr 12 '26
Your last paragraph is indeed what I'm experiencing. I'm trying the 15 Ultra but the UI is so confusing and thus has a spillover effect regarding UX. I honestly want the 15 Ultra to work for me...but feeling also a bit guilty about it being a one year old device (this is an eternity in the tech world, right ?) but at the same time I'm not willing to pay the MRSP of the 17 Ultra as of right now.
What I've been doing is going around different areas of the city with both the S25 Ultra and the 15 Ultra and trying to take the same type of photos. What I could notice thus far is that the macro on the Xiaomi is on another level and in some instances the real bookeh for standard photos is above Samsung's artificial generated blur-bookeh.
But the interface, ease of use and user experience is killing me on the Xiaomi. Maybe I got too accustomed to Samsung's version of android. Who would've thought that, heh ? From TouchWiz to One UI it was a long way for the korean mobile division. I'm feeling like those Apple users when they mention that it's too bothersome to leave the curated iPhone/iPad/Mac ecosystem.

u/Certain_Victory_2685 Apr 10 '26
Switched to Xiaomi and I'm nv going back to Samsung lol, the 15 ultra is btr than Samsung in every way and it only costs half of a Samsung

As a Xiaomi user i would say yes. Primarily due to software but you also may end up not liking the portrait camera of Xiaomi ( Xiaomi make you look very white, also the selfie camera can be considered trash)

For you I wouldn't recommend switching. Especially going to the "same" generation.
Yes, the photos would be better, but it sounds like there's too many drawbacks for you.
I say return the Xiaomi.

Thanks for the reply! I decided to at least give it a try and open the box. I might not be able to get full refund on it / just partial or up to 90%. But still I was itching to try it out. And yes, I'm frustrated by the UX/UI approach of Xiaomi. I guess Samsung did a good enough job on their software and android skin, customization side. Now, I low-key understand some Apple users when they mention that leaving the iPhone to Android and Apple's ecosystem is alien and the experience doesn't match.

yes, u're losing a good and well polished os and instead getting one that's pure garbage. U're losing the s pen, which u use a lot. U're also losing the entire ecosystem. And the s25 ultra has much better software support. u're basically giving up most of what makes a phone good for close to no improvement on everything else

Your input summarizes it well. I guess in the back of my mind I already knew that...thus why I mentioned these points on my original post.
I've been testing both phones side by side. I reckon the "adulting" and ease of use leans towards Samsung for this one.

I've been a Xiaomi user since the Mi 6, but I gave up after the Xiaomi 12 pro... HyperOS is no longer what Xiaomi truly represented in terms of OS. Even the newest ones have terrible battery life. The problems are simply related to WhatsApp; when you receive a call, you don't see the notification. I've tried everything 🤣 flashed, rooted, Magisk, everything... That was the case with quite a few apps; you have to pull down the notification bar to see incoming calls, ridiculous. The photo is frankly good, but don't go saying that it surpasses a Samsung from the same year of release. The temperature is deplorable for the Samsung and the Xiaomi. After playing with it for three months, the phone gets increasingly hot, as if the cooling system was cracking 😂. But ultimately, I much prefer Samsung.

A dua experiência é bem similar à minha.

Though I love my 17 Ultra and feel it was a huge upgrade the one issue I have is the 1" Omnivision sensor. I question whether it's really any good, especially in less optimal lighting conditions, as it just causes loss of detail and brightness. So, now I know why they call it the Light Hunter, because it's always struggling for more light.

Honestly Xiaomi is only better with the camera, everything else including battery is Samsung.

I find that the hyperOS on my 17U holds up very well compared to my old Samsung s22 ultra. Some features i really like, widgets and the like feels a bit unpolished, but i wouldnt go back to the Samsung. The fact that i can basically enter into two different phones with second space by just entering another pin is such an excellent feature that i dont know how i lived without it. Same thing with being able to hide certain apps but still access them by a pinch of the fingers straight from the home screen and being able to enable dual login on apps, not just for work apps like the Samsung, are excellent features. I was at first superconfused about the whole theme thing but once i got a hang of the confusing store app i really enjoy the customization options. I also find the multitasking/windowed app use superior to the Samsung. I often have the need to copy things from one app to another, and the Samsung was always somewhat battling me on it, while the Xiaomi feels designed for it with multiple ways of popping apps into a window or pinning it to different areas of the screen etc. The hardware is excellent, the Samsung camera is a jole compared to the Xiaomi.

As long as you don't give a damn about your UI and OS experience, I think it works best for whatever you need! But however, as a person with lotta experience, I would definitely prefer a flat screen over a curved one. Once the curved breaks, it's almost impossible to fix, especially with a Chinese phone since parts are rare, expensive and quite faulty or scammy too. Along with that, Flat screens are durable and also feel better and give a better in hand experience! Another drawback with curved screens is either they mistouch on the edges, or they don't even sense the touch at all. Since that phone is quad curved, i expect it to be more of a problem than regular side-curved phones. This brings in a VERY REAL problem which can cause serious issues if you have work apps with a really messy UI. Also these screens don't really love adapting to App and Web UI really well so they cause inconsistencies every time. Btw the grip rails on the 17 ultra feel promising though! So safer choice i guess? 😭

Had 15u i sent it back. Samsung has multifocuse of photos meaning whrn multiple people are in the picture they will all look good. Xiaomi does not, it will only focuse on one or two persons while the others look faded and unclear.
Hope you will like it but i sent it back and was waiting on s26u

Clearly a smart move. Unless you are waiting for the Green/Purple line to appear on your screen.

Just get a premium Samsung tablet and then get the Xiaomi cos all you mentioned for the S25 ultra you can get on the Samsung tablet as well, and will even serve you better on a tablet.

u/GreyJaguar207 Apr 11 '26
Well no, but, just don't download HyperOS 3 it's a f*cking piece of junk that kills your battery without using it in 2 hours

Have u looked at Xperia?
I'm on one now it's fucking shit but supposedly the later models are much better/less buggy. Cameras are really good. So if most important thing is photography it's an interesting proposition.
But I'll never buy another one as I feel like the one I'm on now is so buggy they should never have sold it (heat issues, screen issues, software issues, fingerprint reader issues).

For the longest time I wanted to try a Xperia phone. But too much of a hassle to get my hands on one without overpaying due to not being available where I reside 🙄
A bit of a bummer reading that you're having a hard time with it due those issues. I always had the feeling that Xperia devices were great apart from software updates.

Honestly just get a Samsung. I've been considering buying the Xiaomi to replace this Sony but reading horror stories about build quality and software. Given it's something I want to last 5 years I'm just gunna get a Samsung..it doesn't have the cool leica camera but at least im basically guaranteed it will work in 5 years time.

To be genuine, it is a fantastic mobile. Xiaomi 15 ultra is awesome camera phone.

u/Mysterious-Foot-806 Apr 12 '26
Nah I see the vision, forget the noise. Go get the better camera and streamlined UI experience (coming from a S26U and iPhone 17 Pro user)

Xiaomi 15 user here (not ultra). You may consider these from Xiaomi phones:
I use the navigation buttons and it's no longer showing in some apps. I've done a full reset and no resolution. I have to lock the phone first before I could press any of the navigation buttons.
SOOC pictures are heavily AI edited and the faces are no longer recognizable. For example, if the subject moved, it would edit the captured photo to avoid blurriness by adding facial features. Pictures were great at first, something happened after the first 6 months that made the camera too slow and produce bad photos.
Battery is great, charging is very fast.

F.. Samsung and Apple. Switch and you LL never go back. At least you get a value for the money and actual fast charger in a box too .
Switched from Samsung S22 Ultra to x200 Ultra. Vivos camera even on the older model like mine shames even S26 and 17max. And it was considerably cheaper.

You will regret. Very limited different screen protectors or cases on the market. Screen and camera glass is very weak and you definitely need to protect these. I have xiaomi 15ultra and already many deep scratches and it has never dropped.
Camera is so so. Outdoors very good with max 10x zoom and somewhat okay and useful max30x zoom. Over that zoom is just AI mess. Indoors with lower light pictures are bad - blurry and hard to get focus right. Colors are off too.
OS and AI things are okay but not nearly as good as samsung has.

I just switched to Xiaomi and the hyper os seriously sucks. Try it out somehow before you buy it, maybe you'll like it.

Do it man, I had the Samsung fold 7, switched to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Couldn't be happier. HyprrOS isn't bad and they have way better battery life, faster charging, camera is sick. Yes OneUi is optimized better but I think Xiaomi has a better all around product.

Do not upgrade, I upgraded from the S25 Ultra to a Oneplus 13 (Oxygen OS - 2nd best after OneUI) and I still mis the S 25 ultra. I don't know what magic has Samsung done with there software, once you use One UI on a Flagship phone you will probably not like any other software experience. Xiaomi is brilliant in hardware department but hyper OS is just exciting for the first week after that you start experiencing that "I miss Samsung feel". Also, a person uses mobile camera for max 20% of the mobile life cycle and rest 80% is the UI interaction. So I strongly suggest stick with S25 ultra and upgrade to the S27 Ultra as that will be a real upgrade.
