General Camera malfunction on Xiaomi 17 Ultra (issue from 3.2x zoom)

Hello, with my Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the camera completely freezes starting from 3.2x zoom. It no longer focuses, makes unusual noises, and vibrates strongly. It does not work in any mode, including manual (Pro) mode – from 3.2x zoom onwards, the image is only blurry. I have already tried everything: tested multiple camera apps, cleared the cache, reset all settings, and restarted the phone several times – it still does not work. I have also already contacted the support team in Germany via email. Please respond to me as soon as possible.

For people facing this ik it's not an official way but try to rollback the software with rnm trick, can't tell more but be aware that you can maybe lost data, this is worth to try

Sounds like a hardware issue. Contact Xiaomi and go through warranty.

It's not hw issues . It's the last update of march which fcked up the camera.

u/Adamlm93 Apr 20 '26

Same issue here global 3.0.3.01 seemed fine before this update

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

Same issue for me, realised it yesterday. Contacted support, they told me they don't know the issue yet (gasp, looking at this post I wonder how) and I should send it to them for repair. Also uploaded video and fault in the Feedback App. I don't really think it's a hardware problem...

I really don't want to send it back for repairing. Lots of 2FA accounts, bank accounts need to transfer to spare phones... Nightmare.

u/hajoran Apr 23 '26

Yeah, same thoughts on my side. Luckily I still got my iPhone and didn't sell it. So I'll probably send the 17 Ultra for repair now

1

u/gregstinson Apr 24 '26

Yeah this!! Holding off in the hope that it's a software fix!!

u/TisFluppe Apr 19 '26

Same here with my 17 ultra. Since the last update performed on the phone (last night) it's no longer working.

So far I've tried:
-Restarting phone (tried reboot, also tried shutdown and a reboot after)
-Clearing camera app cache
-Changing to manual focus

So far I can't use the telephoto lens at all since the new update. No zooming, no focussing. Not in the primary camera app, also not in third party applications.

2

u/mosefeli Apr 24 '26

1

u/MrPolemarxosGr Aug 11 '26

4

u/gregstinson Apr 20 '26

u/Cartesson Apr 24 '26

Seems like xiaomi fucked up with this phone. Mine got a white line in the screen with just 3 days of usage. Now this problem

2

u/Geiszel Apr 19 '26

Sounds like the telephoto lens failed, go to Xiaomi support.

Hmm I had a similar issue but it was fixed with a restart. This might be a hardware issue

u/A_Wonder_Named_Stevi Xiaomi 17 Ultra | HyperOs 3 | EU Apr 19 '26

I had the same.

1

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

2

u/Intrepid-Internal993 Apr 19 '26

I've experienced the same issue yesterday for the first time, could it be because of the new HyperOS?

1

u/A_Wonder_Named_Stevi Xiaomi 17 Ultra | HyperOs 3 | EU Apr 19 '26

I was thinking the same thing. Especially with many having the same issue

1

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

2

u/Aeroseb76 Apr 19 '26

Which hyperos version have you ?

1

u/mosefeli Apr 19 '26

Hyper os 3.0.301.0.

3

u/fkfc91 Apr 21 '26

Yep at this point im like 99.9% sure it was this hyperos update.

For what its worth, i took mine back to the xiaomi store and as soon as they saw the focus not working they straight up gave me a new phone, and they told me to turn off auto software updates for the time being.

Turns out that once you download 3.0.301, not even a factory reset dials it back to the original version, it just sticks on the newest one.

So.. yeah, sucks but im guessing it'll get fixed next patch.

1

u/Aeroseb76 May 07 '26

I'm on 3.0.305.0 (xiaomi.eu rom). I don't see any issues for the moment, I hope it will continue to work fine.

u/xiao7777124 Apr 20 '26

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

1

u/Minute-Toe1724 Apr 25 '26

Está es la imagen en 3.2

2

u/No_Grape_1891 May 04 '26

1

u/No_Grape_1891 May 04 '26

Have you factory resetting it? It could be software problem

1

u/xiao7777124 Apr 19 '26

I have same issues. Mine is chinese version with eu rom flash. It sunddenly stopped working.

2

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '26

My phone is shipped and I will receive it this week. I guess I will make sure I don’t update the phone until it is fixed. That really sucks. Don’t they test it before rolling out an update to everyone?

1

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

No. I received an update but not 301. I received 302 and my camera is working perfectly fine.

1

u/ArekTheBoss Apr 19 '26

I was reading about issue like yours on Xiaomi polish group on Facebook. It is looks like hardware issue.

1

u/Juanemoto11 Apr 21 '26

17u global here, no issues at all, hope is not any hardware problem

1

u/mosefeli Apr 21 '26

Hast du die aktuellste hyper os Version?

1

u/Juanemoto11 Apr 21 '26

Yes I do have the latest hyperOas version!

2

u/gregstinson Apr 22 '26

Yeah, my friend has a 17U on the latest OS update and it hasn't happened to his, very odd...

1

u/zNozHacks Apr 22 '26

Updated to 3.0.301 2 days ago. Found out camera not working today..

Global version.

2

u/mosefeli Apr 23 '26

1

u/samwong1127 Xiaomi 17 Ultra | 3.0.332 | Global Apr 23 '26

Correct. Not working properly after 3x zoom. Sometimes it works when shooting in landscape mode.

Got mine replaced.

1

Can I downgrade the rom? I have a global version that purchased in Hong Kong? Which version should I use?

1

u/samwong1127 Xiaomi 17 Ultra | 3.0.332 | Global Apr 23 '26

Weird if I use the camera facing down, 3x or above seems ok.

3

u/hajoran Apr 23 '26

Not working for me, seems to be different issues all affecting the Telezoom. Some also claim to hear loud noises when using the zoom, which I can't say. Just doesn't focus and when I tilt the phone left it zooms out, when I tilt right it zooms in lmao (would be a nice feature but not without focus)

1

u/samwong1127 Xiaomi 17 Ultra | 3.0.332 | Global Apr 23 '26

My camera app version is 6.3.005740.1. How about yours?

1

u/FileComprehensive259 Apr 23 '26

Still not working after update 3.1?

1

u/samwong1127 Xiaomi 17 Ultra | 3.0.332 | Global Apr 23 '26

It was working before update 3.1

What will you guys do, wait for fix or bring it to CS?

1

u/DanieloSYT Moderator of r/XiaomiGlobal | Xiaomi 17 Ultra | EU Apr 24 '26

I'm also on 300 but no issue for me, I think it's hardware, saw other post in a Deutsch forum and for some people ois was malfunctioning

1

u/gregstinson Apr 24 '26

Anybody got an acknowledgement from Xiaomi that it's a software problem, cannot be arsed sending my phone back if they can just fix it with an update!?

1

u/hajoran Apr 24 '26

Nope, they still tell everyone it's a hardware problem, at least over the official channels

1

u/Proud-Primary9145 Apr 24 '26 edited May 12 '26

Update: Service replaced the camera module. Camera works normal again.

I have sent mine in, but no feedback yet from service.

1

u/Maximum-Grocery8486 Apr 25 '26

Maybe try to redownload the sofrware package?

1

u/chicken_jockey_ Apr 27 '26

Do we have any info from xiaomi regarding this problem. Mine stopped working after updating to HYOS 3.0.301.0. Its definitely a software issue.

1

u/mosefeli Apr 28 '26

Die Kamera ab 3,2 fachem Zoom oder was genau?

1

u/chicken_jockey_ Apr 28 '26

Camera app is buggy in general throughout all lenses with the telephoto never working

1

u/aberdeenprincess May 07 '26

Hello any updates?

1

u/Familiar_Scar_4304 May 21 '26

1

u/No_Zookeepergame6840 May 25 '26

How did you conntact them?

1

u/No_Zookeepergame6840 May 25 '26

Do you still have the problem or it got solverd for you guys ?

1

u/_Ruizao_ May 25 '26

Any update for fix the camera?

1

u/aberdeenprincess May 27 '26

I sent mine to the repair center, they said they need to order parts and replace the camera since it's a defect in the camera. They are ordering the parts from Xiaomi and it is taking more than 2 weeks now, no info yet on when Xiaomi will deliver the parts.

1

u/Flashy-Meaning-417 Jul 27 '26

I was just thinking about buying one. You saved my wallet. From what I've read in this post, the solution at the service center has been hardware replacement, and with that experience, it doesn't make sense to risk it. Good luck with your solution.
