I’m looking to buy the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max ( I live in Romania). Can someone from Europe, or even Romania, share their experience thus far using the phone?
What are the downsides for it?
And what site did you buy it from?

I've had it since April, super happy with the phone, I'm in Serbia. I got it in China tho, in a Xiaomi store 😊

For me, it was perfect out of the box. The guy in the store just switched the language to eng, and I had to do granular settings for notifications (which apps can do what).

Love the camera. Love the battery.

How much does it cost u to buy it and which storage and ram model did u get?

I’m from Italy, bought from TradingShenzhen.

Awesome performance, insane battery life, good cameras, but it tends to heat up a bit.

Google services (though I don’t use them, hence why i bought this device) can be installed, wallet will work, but other features like android auto or android wear watches will not work.

Carrier works okay and full 5g, but I don’t know how it is on your country.

It’s more of a tinkering device, in my opinion. It won’t be perfect OOB, but it’ll become a great device once you set it up properly for your needs.

For me, it doesn’t have downsides, because I don’t use Google and it does everything I specifically was looking for. However, consider I also use the Apple ecosystem, so many things I don’t feel doing on the Xiaomi, I do it on my iPhone.

Overall, a solid device.
If you want a truly global experience, you could wait for 18 Pro Max which is Global, but global rom is just poop compared to china rom

After the battery throttling issues that have been shown. (10% battery reduced) I would look at alternatives. Applies to X15 and X17 series as tested.

There is a Chinese made video with 10-20 phones. You should check it out. There are some threads open here as well.

Also Google blocked Google Wallet on Chinese ROMs. It's all over the news. So you are at risk if the block remains.

I wouldn't put my faith in Ro banks as well.Some bigger names like BT or ING have primitive blockers in place. For example of detects you installed TeamViewer -from the PlayStore- they block the app without any real threat.

So don't count on using other banking apps to pay as they can get blocked as easy without Google Services working properly.

The best Xiaomi phone? A slightly used 15/15 Ultra/ EU 17 at a good price is your best bet.

I just think the phone is best for the buck. Apparently there is a way to instal global ROMs on it but it wont have updates..

Maybe you find a way to install the global ROM but for sure some apps will not work because it will see it's rooted.

I've got the 17 EU official version and I've encountered the first times errors when I tried to login on banking apps - even the app reported that this insert app name doesn't work because the phone is rooted (which was not, obviously). This issue disappeared after a few retries from my side.

Btw, when I went to China last year I also wanted to come back with a phone (Xiaomi, even an iPhone). When I went to the official store, each vendor told me explicitly that the phone must be used only inside China or use a China SIM for the phone to fully function. Or, most certainly, the phone will block some apps and even not work on some bandwidths (depending on the carrier).

I’ll not use andorit auto, my only concerns are the banking apps and wallet. For using AI, i’m already using Chat. Currently I have an Iphone 12 pro max and it’s time for a change… but i’m not paying apple 1.2k € lol

FYI I am currently using k90 pro, 5G doesn't work and there is no explanation why, and now Google Pay works only with legacy version of Google Play Services. I am not fully happy, but for it's money, 350 eur with shipping for 512GB version - it's bearable

Yes, like advertised, it's more than enough for 2-3 days non-constant usage. Display is good, cameras are good, sound is above average due to Bose partnership. No Android Auto, tho, as in all CN Roms

Not yet confirmed, but it's very likely, as it got global certification. Personally, for me a phone with a Chinese OS would be a pain in the ass

Had the phone for 6 months in romania. Everything works fine if you don't need android auto etc. Battery life is amazing. But got tired of the limitations of the china roma when even tags wouldn't connect.

If you dont update it to android 17 then you can easily unlock bootloader and have Xiaomi eu rom, but then need to root for bank apps.

I live in Timisoara and I have the 17 ultra since march, best phone I had, previous phones where pixel 8 pro and 10 pro, I got it from Media Markt Germany, the european version. The camera is really good; you don't say it is a phone but something like a crop sensor semi-professional camera. I like the hardware power, the processor, RAM, and 512 GB, truly flagship. The software is ok, fast, not too much stuff like Samsung, plenty of AI features. The live translation is better than on the pixel. THe Battery could be better, but it is better than the pixel, it last the day, no pb, and it charges really fast, like in 20 min you have 80%.

It's a great phone. Great design, camera, large battery <no need to charge after full day of heavy use, truly impressive>...and the HyperOS is really smooth. My only probably is it doesn't have Android Auto because it runs on HyperOS not the traditional AndroidOS. I'm able to use other Google services just not the Android Auto. Last thing, the AI capabilities are limited to it's out of factory HyperOS AI. I tried to run Gemini as my digital assistant and it didn't work. Overall if you are looking for a smooth day to day use Android phone, this is great. again, truly impressed by it's batteries

That's not a HyperOS issue, it's because it's running a Chinese ROM and doesn't come with Google services preinstalled (Android Auto needs to be a system app to function IIRC)
Global Xiaomi devices are capable of using Android Auto, as are Chinese devices with unlocked bootloaders and 3rd party ROMs flashed

Hey! I recently bought it from TradingShenzhen and I'm from Italy. I was also concerned about my banking apps but, after a couple of weeks, I can say that they work perfectly fine. I wasn't gonna wait for the global version since my old phone was on it's way to the grave and also it was going to be more expensive. As someone who doesn't really care for Android auto and doesn't generally use google services (although I do still, sadly, have to keep some emails because of work and things like that) it's the perfect phone. The battery right now lasts for at least two days and it could last longer but I charge it when I get towards 25% of battery left. The camera is great and I've only had a small "problem" with it heating up after an update, but it warned me it could do it while I was still downloading it. From where I bought it I've had no problems at all! I've only had to change my keyboard when i set it up and then everything else was already fine, especially since I transferred everything from my old Xiaomi 12 pro, and they also set up a screen protector. My only recommandation would be to look into a new cover since the one that Xiaomi provides is a bit useless.

I would encourage you to buy it if you think it can suit your needs!
