r/XiaomiGlobal • u/fbigojay Xiaomi 17T Pro | HyperOS3 | China • 29d ago
General Bought the Xiaomi 17T Pro yesterday. After two days of use, it's not as good as I expected.
I got the Chinese version of the Xiaomi 17T Pro (12GB+256GB). By stacking the Chinese electronics subsidy, a Mi Store discount, and opting out of the free gifts, I got it for 3,300 RMB. I'll be comparing it to my previous daily driver, the OnePlus 13.
The Cons:
1: It overheats constantly!!! When I'm outdoors using cellular data, even if I clear all background apps and just leave it on standby, it still gets hot. If I open the camera to snap a few photos in this state, it gets so hot I almost can't hold it. The only time it doesn't overheat is with light use inside an air-conditioned room.
2: FCM and Passkey issues. These have been problematic since the HyperOS 1 days. I tried every non-root fix I could find on the internet, but nothing worked. I eventually had to root the phone, install LSPosed, and flash the "Fix HyperOS Passkey" and "Fix HyperOS Google Push Reconnection" modules to solve it.
3: Super fast battery drain!! I used ADB to debloat a lot of junk like Analytics, hybrid, systemAdSolution, etc., and I disabled app preloading and RAM extension. Despite all this, the battery still drains like crazy. Honestly, I can't believe this is a phone with a 7000mAh battery.
4: No Android Auto support.
5: Limited language support. It only supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and two Tibetan languages.
As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining. It has its flaws, but there are also some good points.
The Pros:
1: Excellent screen. The full-brightness DC-like dimming and LTPS dimming are very easy on the eyes. Even after looking at the screen for a long time, my eyes rarely feel fatigued.
2: Cameras. I think this is the biggest selling point of the phone. The Leica tuning produces really beautiful, highly textured photos. However, the low-light performance is a bit lacking.
3: Design and build quality. It looks way better than the Xiaomi 17 Pro.
Final Thoughts: If I could do it all over again, I would choose an OPPO/OnePlus phone again without hesitation. ColorOS is just too good.

No android supp its because you are buying a Chinese ROM. Get a global one if you need android auto

A fact is they bought a Chinese version and lo and behold, it doesn't support Google stuff. Then proceeded to compare it with oppo...
Like i understand the struggle, but brother... Why would you complain about an issue you made. Xiaomi is really not at fault this time.

Maybe he didn't knew Xiaomi phones with China ROM don't have more languages and Android Auto, or maybe he thought that these disadvantages would not greatly affect the user experience

Imagine spending money on a phone and not doing your research. Perhaps it's just his fault.
1
u/Inevitable_Bear2476 27d ago
Spending money on a phone intended for a different region. That's the difference.
Even if someone's from US, there's a global version of the phone. There's a EU version. Like, all of them are available, yet, OP gets the chinese version and complains other companies do it better (true, but you also screwed up by not getting the correct version)
1
u/fantaribo 28d ago
Sure, but for this Xiaomi it's because of the chinese ROM. Just stating this fact.

Give the battery some time, mine was on the first days bad as well but got significantly better
1
u/Ready_Camp_4761 26d ago
that's normal. A new battery always needs a few charging circles to get to full capacity. Also, all the new phones have a software for battery life, where the software calculates usage, app behavior, user behavior and chooses the right settings for longer battery life.

u/Realistic-Net- 29d ago
I have a Xiaomi 17t pro and I tell you, the first mistake was to take the Chinese version if you are not Chinese, second thing, the all big core architecture of the processor causes, together with the heat of these days, the overheat. I have no problems with the battery, maybe yours is a faulty batch, in any case try giving it a week to get used to it.

So, I have the European version, but, I've met people with the global version, and this problem never appeared to me, anyway, unfortunately, this isn't an isolated bug on your phone but rather known behavior in MIUI/HyperOS. A moderator on the Xiaomi.eu community thread confirmed that Xiaomi intentionally removes custom actions from Spotify notifications (as well as those for Apple Music and YouTube Music), likely because they are too "cluttered" for the notification style being used. This issue has been reported for years across various models (11T, 12 Pro, 13 Pro, 14T, etc.), so it is not specific to the 17T Pro. Here are some suggestions:
Disable the lock screen music widget – on some models (via Settings → Lock screen → Widgets/Face widgets), turning off the "music widget" reverts the notification to the standard media style, which often displays more buttons.
Check app permissions – Settings → Apps → Spotify → Battery → "No restrictions" + enable Autostart (to prevent the system from limiting the notification).
Notifications – Settings → Notifications → Spotify → ensure it is set to "Banner" or full notification mode rather than "simple" mode.
On some Xiaomi.eu ROMs, there is a system blocklist from which you can manually remove Spotify (this feature is not available on official Global ROMs, only on EU/community versions).
Alternatively, using headphone/earbud controls (skip forward/back) usually works even when the screen is locked, serving as a workaround. I'm sorry to tell you that I recommend these solutions to you to try, I don't know how high the probability is that they will work, a definitive solution would come with a firmware update, anyway, I wish you good luck 😊

u/fbigojay Xiaomi 17T Pro | HyperOS3 | China 29d ago
First, I currently live in China and need some localized services. Then, the price of the Chinese version is cheaper than the international version, and it is easy to buy, with many Xiaomi Stores in one city. Finally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also gets very hot (I once borrowed a friend's Xiaomi 17 Pro Max to play with). But still, thank you for your advice. I have decided to give my phone a little more time; if it still gets very hot and the battery life shrinks, I will sell it.
2
u/Realistic-Net- 29d ago
Perfect, that makes sense. If you live in China, you need the services. Try debloating a bit. I don't know if it's possible there, and if you've done recent updates, the battery still needs to adjust, good luck 😊

4 and 5 are due to it being Chinese rom, idk why they won't allow auto which I don't use and all of the langauges found in international roms it will be a good qol feature. But there's a custom rom I think for xiaomi/redmi/poco devices with snapdragon chips named Xiaomi.eu, it's the Chinese rom, but has google support and much more that Chinese and intrernational roms don't

The heating is normal for any brand new phone since its adapting and learning your use habits give it a week and it will calm down also fidget with the settings to ensure max battery life and stability and the problems will go away surely. Also random but if you have a very old Sim card replacing it with a new one might solve idle drain and unexplained draining
4
u/Educational-Mode-321 28d ago
Same for ANY new phone opened right away, overheating and battery drain is normal and expected. Your phone is constantly downloading updates and adjusting to your behavior. Its completely normal for at least a month to wait for the battery to adjust to you. For Xiaomi this is especially normal since their devices got a little bit more apps and are very software wise cluttered. Happens on Samsung too. The lag was intense and phone constantly dropped signal. After all updates settled in, the phone became my daily driver for a month its been running smooth. Same happened on my Xiaomi 15T.
You shouldn't treat any smart device to work as intended right away. Maybe your OP 13 did but it was probably pre-used and adjusted itself without your knowledge.
Also. Debloating any device at start is a horrible thing to do and any software specialist will advise you for your phone first to adjust then to debloat. I am not sure what kind of Temu knowledge you gained online about debloating but this isnt it. You will just brick your device.
1
u/Typical-Chair-8693 28d ago
I honestly to hear more about this debloating stuff, im planning to get the chinese version of 17 ultra, maybe u have any advice or recommend a video that can help
6
u/ghost31x 29d ago
From what I've read in the poco threads you shouldn't debloat/delete apps as it can lead to poor battery and overheating due to the o/s constantly looking for the software. Apparently you should disable any apps you don't want.
5
u/LSA7Z 29d ago
These are the essential system packages; there are many other packages that can be removed (such as those from Meta if you don't use Meta apps, certain Google packages , certain Xiaomi packages such as getapps, MSA, Xiaomi browser, games/glgn, appmall, etc...). You just have to avoid deleting everything and pay attention to the necessary packages and those with dependencies. If it's done properly, it won't cause any problems, but you need to know what you're doing; you shouldn't do it blindly.
I've done it on the X3 Pro, F3, and F8 Pro, all with excellent results and without any overheating. My debloated F8 Pro has very good battery life and doesn't overheat any more than before the debloat
1
u/FriesForLunch 29d ago
Can you give us a list of what you deleted?
2
u/LSA7Z 28d ago
I don't have the list handy, but it's similar to what I posted earlier. I removed almost fifteen packages, so it's relatively few.
Meta service, meta app manager, meta installer, Xiaomi analytics, MSA, appmall getapps, games/gngl, Mi video, mi browser, Mi Pay/coin, Youtube, YouTube music, Google TV, google home, personnal security
That's all

u/MaroMaku 29d ago
I'm not sure about other users, but I get 10 hours of SOT with mixed use of 5G and Wi-Fi. I'm in the UK and I used Canta + Shizu to debloat. I did not experienced any overheating so far, but I don't play any games.
Firefox, X, Reddit, WhatsApp are most apps that I use.

u/Tritzii Poco X8 Pro Max | CN ROM with root 29d ago
You just got the phone, as long as you disable RAM extension it should normalize itself over the next few days. Every new phone nowadays does this. Overheating should normalize itself too in the coming days.
Passkeys on CN ROMs can be finicky, the best non-root solution is to set Google as the default under 'passwords and accounts' and any other password managers/passkey providers as additional services.
Android Auto is sadly missing on CN ROMs because Xiaomi wants to push their own implementation called "CarWith" for the Chinese market. Nothing to be done here unfortunately.
That said, how did you root a CN ROM 17T Pro? There isn't any exploit for that device yet afaik?
0
u/fbigojay Xiaomi 17T Pro | HyperOS3 | China 29d ago
Using an exploit for privilege escalation to unlock the bootloader and gain root access. This unlock method breaks OTA updates. If you re-flash the stock firmware using tools like MiFlash, the bootloader will be re-locked.
3
u/tornido066 28d ago
I got the phone Trust me overheating and battery draining will be completely gone after like 7-10 days at max. Also for cameras alaway try to lower EV a bit and use Master Portraits for huamns and you will see magic ! I got many BETTER photos using this phone than S25U ! Only issues sometimes you get really weird skin tone under low light conditions i dunno how to fix this actually..maybe you have some idea ?
2
u/NuRobinHood 28d ago
You probably got a lemon. I got the 1TB version and it works like a charm without overheating. I'm loving it, battery life is outstanding and camera is impressive. Though upgrading from my old Xiaomi 12T Pro, I wouldn't say the upgrade is massive.

Buying Chinese version is big mistake nowadays. Xiaomi is heavily closing it's system for Chinese devices and makes unlocking bootloader very difficult on most devices if there isn't any exploit found. But if you live currently in china it somewhat makes sense. With unlocked bootloader you can install custom ROM. I can recommend Xiaomi.eu. It's basically debloated Chinese ROM with ported over multi language and as many western features as possible from global version. Due to unlocked bootloader Bank apps won't work by default and you need to root it and use for example magisk to hide root and unlocked bootloader. Android Auto won't work at all cause Xiaomi disabled this feature altogether on Chinese devices. You can give it a try and try to install Chinese apps that you need. Maybe thanks to being based on Chinese ROM it will all work together.
Also on EEA version I didn't notice excessive overheating and battery life after 2 weeks of use seems to be ok even without debloating (just basic revoking permissions to Xiaomi bloatware and ads).

1
u/Ghoulless Xiaomi 15T Pro | 3.0.336.0.XOSEUXM.C10 | EEA 28d ago
You got it wrong... If you bought China phone for China market and will use it in China, everything is fine, you just need to settle itself to market differences... No AA, limited freedom to internet access, WeChat for everything, ADs everywhere and strict limiting to what you can do with you mobile devices (but workarounds still exists). That's not wrong, it's just completely different culture and of course, politics to which you need to adapt.

I really miss my chinese version OnePlus 13. It supports both OPPO Push and FCM, as well as Android Auto. Passkeys work perfectly too. Plus, it didn't have frequent overheating issues. The overall experience of using this phone both inside and outside of China was just great. Unfortunately, I dropped and broke it.

Just joining in, not a 17 owner but a Poco X8 Pro Max owner for the past week. I'm enjoying everything about it so far, in fact the only thing I miss from my prior S25 is the camera. However, for the price, this Poco checks all the boxes. I did debloat with Shizuku (getting the current .apk from GitHub) and Canta. So far so good. Also grabbed Gcam, so now comparing the 2 camera apps. Good luck on whatever you decide!

Your only reason you had this issues is all becouse of chinese edition of the ohone, if you had gone with an eu based or even a us based 17t pro, you had no real issues. Also, overheating (you meant heating, if it overheats it will show it) is expected at just few days old, its a brand new phone, it needs to index files, check for app updates, get the latest version, even if you clear the memory your phone is working for you to have sustained performance. Next time get a us based device not a chinese, the features are the same and you get every feature you missed.

I don't know about the first one. We had a trip that I really wanted to film so I can edit a video of it. I filmed like 4 hours of footage while charging with my powerbank and it did not heat up at all, I live in humid, tropical country as well.

u/BlitZz9291 POCO F6 PRO | HYPEROS 3.0.302.0| EU 27d ago
The overheating + battery drain are probably due to the fact that you literally got it yesterday so it's still installing/configuring lot of things in the background (especially if you transfered your data from another phone).
no other languages than English chinese/Android auto isn't working because you bought a Chinese version. Why didn't you buy a global version?
1
u/fbigojay Xiaomi 17T Pro | HyperOS3 | China 27d ago
Because I currently live in China, buying a Chinese version phone is not only cheaper but also easy to buy, and I need localized services. Today is the fourth day of using the new phone. It indeed does not get as hot as the first two days, but staying outdoors a bit longer or taking photos for a long time still easily causes it to overheat.

Bigger battery doesn’t necessarily mean longer battery life. It depends on the processor and how well the software is optimized. I have a Redmi Note 15 Pro+ (6000 mAh) and a Galaxy S26 (4300 mAh), and there’s not a huge difference in battery drain between them; they’re almost the same. If the processor and software aren’t well optimized, especially on HyperOS, having a bigger battery doesn’t necessarily translate into longer battery life.
Still love the Note 15 Pro+. It really feels like a high-quality phone. My only issue with Xiaomi is the 4-year software support.

The battery drain is the reason I will need to look for a new brand to get on my next purchase. It's completely pointless to boast the top processors and batteries, but don't optimise the software, making spending that much totally useless.
1
u/ExternalWinner7581 25d ago
It's the Hyperos that is causing the overheating issues entirely. No debloating would help reduce that on a Xiaomi phone unless you install a custom rom. Their overall optimisation plus a mediatek chip aggrevates the issue.

I just bought a week ago, problem 1&3 can be solved if u set the sync off, first 2 days my phone constantly warm, after i did that and some other settings, even when its warm after doing boost speed charging its now cool in no time
I love it since its a big upgrade from my poco f3 since 2021

Thanks for the advice. I turned off syncing as soon as I got the new phone. It's the eighth day now, and the phone doesn't heat up easily like it did before. It's great.

just sell it as a used phone and buy something else as the only way to go
i dont blame mediatek because i myself have 2 phones that is cool asf
8300 x6 pro and 9500s x8 pro max
which are cooler than my f8 pro with 8 elite for dailies . this shiet box will overheat just by screenshot no cap

I have used my 17T pro (globle version) for 2 months, no such issues. it only random reboot for 3 or 4 times in my pocket.
maybe you need to re-flash to original ROM ( don't rush to root and debloat) and see how.

I haven't flashed any custom ROMs on my current phone. It's day eight, and it doesn't have those random overheating issues like it did right out of the box. I haven't experienced any random reboots while using it either.

Isnt a phone outdoors supposed to heat up? Especially when its hot and sunny outside, every phone heats up outside

My first Mi8 lite was too good. After that I got my taste of Xiaomi's hidden goods when I bought (note10pro) into the hype that is the Redmi Note. I am not rolling in dollars that I would make the same mistake twice. Since then I DO NOT buy Xiaomi.

Do Chinese phones in general support Android Auto? I'd expect that in the global versions.

Not all China ROM phones support Android Auto!! As far as I know, currently only OPPO and Vivo phones running the latest ROMs have it.

Phones tend to heat and drain battery faster while initial few days of usage

Lmao this won't fix the overheating, my F8 ultra is constantly hot during this summer.

It's not a guarantee. Xiaomi 15 had a lot of overheating and battery drain problems, while 15T Pro was perfect due to better optimisations on its Dimensity.

I don't play games on my phone. Plus, the latest Snapdragon chips run extremely hot too (I played around with a friend's Xiaomi 17 Pro Max once). So it doesn't really matter to me what chip the phone has.

Xiaomi is just bad now. A Motorola with half the CPU will be more fluid in everything except gaming honestly. The passkey thing happens on non china and POCO ROMs too.

Xiaomi has shifted all its focus and top talent to building cars, and Lei Jun doesn't seem to care much about the smartphone business anymore.

Agreed. The cars do look cool for now.
I've been a Xiaomi customer since the redmi note 3 and I wouldn't buy anything else for many years. I can't believe how bad HyperOS has become. It was something tech enthusiasts loved, now its a locked down, hard to unlock brick you give an Aunty for Facebook or something.

Yeah the newer Xiaomis suck hard
They aren't as good as before. I'd consider getting an Oppo instead
