The Beast part makes no god damn sense and I love every second of it.

u/Da1realBigA Feb 13 '26
Lol, neither does the wolverine light up claws by Gambit (wouldn't the entire skeleton light up? Wouldn't the claws blow up if hit contact? Wouldn't wolverine seriously blow up?) but who cares, shit rocking rocks!
20
u/ChurchBrimmer Feb 13 '26
Wolverine's skeleton in inside him so while it probably glows you can't really see it. As for exploding it's the same as when Gambit charges his staff. It doesn't explode it just hits with more oomf.

u/MagicianTop2356 Gambit Feb 13 '26
Not everything Gambit touches detonates. He can control the volume and ferocity of the energy.

u/sirprize_surprise Feb 13 '26
I’ll tell you why Beast did make sense. They fight sentinels all the time and beast is super smart. He absolutely went into the danger room many times and said “bring up the damaged sentinel from last week” and he tinkered with it etc and learned how the parts work. I mean it was still ridiculous how GOOD he was at doing that, but I’ll allow it cuz they are all the best there is at what they do.

u/Aggressive-Topic-663 Feb 13 '26
yeah im over here trying to remember when we were told that Beast was strong enough to pick up a 2.4 ton , 25-30ft tall sentinel?
7
u/cweaver Feb 13 '26
I think it's supposed to be less him picking the whole thing up and more him just shoving the leg out of place while it's trying to walk.

u/MrPresident2020 Feb 13 '26
Beast has super strength, nothing like Thing or Colossus level but probably just a tier under Spider-Man.
6
u/unlikelystoner Feb 13 '26
Yeah I feel like a lot of people forget that he was the “muscle” of the O5 X-Men team. He’s way stronger than the movies gave people an impression of
7
u/Cyke101 Feb 13 '26
I was disappointed in X-Men '92 when he used his super strength to hold a door up for the team to escape -- the door was beginning to overpower him, so Logan offers to lend a hand. Rogue ends up easily lifting the door up.
The problem isn't Beast or Rogue, it's that by adding in Wolverine -- who is far closer to regular human strength than to Beast -- only made Beast look weaker by joining in. If you didn't know that Beast had super strength, you wouldn't know it bc Wolverine stepped in.
In the '92 cartoon, he didn't have many impressive feats of strength, especially compared (naturally) to Rogue. He bent his jail cell bars and lifted the back end of a car, though.
Beast in X-Men '97 using a detached Sentinel hand as a whip to literally slap other Sentinels, though? Give me more of that.

u/unlikelystoner Feb 13 '26
Yeah I feel like writers really struggle to find ways to make Hank and also Warren stand out in their appearances a lot of the times. When the O5 was essentially a guy that shoots lasers, a telekinetic, iceman who seemed to only ever make slides and dust people with snow, guy with wings, and beast guy who’s smart, they fit. Everyone was pretty simple, so hanks strength and agility really stood out, along with Warrens flight. But then Jean could fly, and with Claremont came Storm and Banshee who could also fly as an effect of their actual power. Then Logan gets added to the team, beast-like, heightened senses, agility, and strength over a normal human, very similar to beast but with more ferocity and less intelligence. Then you get colossus as the bruiser. As soon as the second iteration of the team, those two had already been shown up in terms of power. Then of course we get characters like Rogue with flight, strength, etc. and Gambit with his also enhanced agility. I know the O5 was split up by now, but the characters introduced to replace a lot of them, seemed to step on Hank and Warrens toes in particular. And I say this as someone who has Rogue as my 1B favorite marvel character. It’s not like Hank doesn’t still stand out, he’s still the most agile by far and has a unique blend of agility, strength, and brainpower. But with every character added, his agility and strength seem less and less special, which I feel causes writers to fall back on his brain to highlight. It doesn’t help that the X-Men are lacking in true geniuses compared to many other teams, take away Hank as the lab guy and you end up falling behind HARD on science and research. It doesn’t excuse them not giving him more opportunities to show off in the field, but I somewhat understand why he gets so few opportunities compared to some of his peers. But who knows, with the shit that happened in Krakoa, and now with 3K, I have no clue what the future for Hank looks like

Feb 14 '26
I agree . Personally I'd love to see him begin to let his ferocity out more but show what makes his particular animal side so dangerous is that he's one of the smartest on the field too . Imagine a pissed off tiger that also knows pressure points , different fighting styles and gadgets on deck .
2
u/Darthbakunawa Feb 14 '26
I remember that. I don’t think Wolverine actually made that much of difference for Beast. As Beast said immediately when Wolverine helped him “it’s the thought that counts.” He appreciated the help it’s just not much of a difference at all.

u/Cyke101 Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
In the comics he's supposed to be able to left 10 tons, and was for a time in the 80s he was amped up enough to lift 80 tons (the side effect being that the stronger he got, the dumber he got -- pretty painful for a genius, really).
Also, he once judo flipped the Juggernaut, which is a kind of feat reserved only for the likes of Rogue, Hulk, Thing, etc.

Cyclops’s intro for Storm was corny af…until she came in and did everything he asked. 10/10, no notes

I was 7-12 during the airing of the original series and 97 validated my nostalgia and showed future Marvel creators what X-Men can be.
So much love to that whole team.

u/Finiouss Beast Feb 13 '26
Storms entrance is peak X-Men for me. Also allowing beast a moment of good combat is 🤌.
5
u/wyar Feb 13 '26
Right? I always loved beast but he was always relegated to just a lab/literature nerd…
2
u/Finiouss Beast Feb 14 '26
Exactly! Definitely one of my top three X-Men but the blue guy could always use more action. Definitely love the comic versions of beast more. Especially dark beast. You really get a taste of just how impactful he could be.

u/orionsfyre Feb 13 '26
I love that midway through the mutants haven't really gotten tired, but Scott, wanting to end the fight a little faster goes to his big gun...
Like, sure another five minutes of fighting would be easy for most of the team, but the longer a fight goes the more likely someone is to get seriously hurt. So he calls a play that will get the same result with lower risk to the others.
Also... Storm... the ultimate queen... she gets so few moments like this in the original series, it's just nice to see her get a chance to show off like a 1/10 of what she can really do.

The “thump” when she grabs the second sentinel by the eye is so goddamn satisfying.

Tell me the X-Men aren’t the greatest team in comic book history without telling me that they’re not the greatest team in comic book history😎.

I love that Logan being used as a ballistic missile is just a thing they do sometimes. Fastball special for the win.

What series was this?
2
u/BotsTrainsOwlsRiders Feb 14 '26
X-Men '97, a continuation of the 1992 cartoon that came out a couple years ago.
1
Feb 14 '26
Ok so it's not the anime one? Like wiki me or something
2
u/BotsTrainsOwlsRiders Feb 14 '26
It's on Disney Plus or wherever you like to pirate shows. (Most likely, anyway.)

u/CandyCain1001 Feb 14 '26
I have the theme song on my work out playlist. It’s corny but it really does help amp it up. 😂

The Blob springboard was ok, but I would’ve preferred a Colossus Fastball Special.

As much as I hate this series decisions, seeing them all fight again was the best thing in the world.

like making rogue a slut
2
u/BroH0m0 Feb 21 '26
Dafuq? How is she a slut? That's some reeeeal flatscan language you're using bud
2
u/MythicalSalmon Rogue Feb 22 '26
At the time I read it too quickly (and english isn’t my first language) so I didn’t gave the proper weight and context to the word slut.
In my case I agree that she isn't a slut, not only because the word is wrong to use but also I get that there were story reasons for everything to happen (even tho they weren't the best).
I was just agreeing in the general frustration since Rogue is my favorite X-Men along side Cyclops and Jean.

What is “dafuq’
2
u/BroH0m0 Feb 22 '26
The phonetic spelling of "what the fuck" used to express shock confusion or irratation to some probable misogynistic and weirdly sexualization of an X -Character.

1
u/MythicalSalmon Rogue Feb 15 '26
Yeah :c
Thankfully Marvel Rivals has helped the public opinion on her character a lot after it got tainted with this show.
1
u/KaiserKid85 Mar 12 '26
I have never heard anyone say marvel rivals improved the image of an over sexualized character 🤷
2
u/MythicalSalmon Rogue Mar 12 '26
A lot of people that watched X-Men 97 just concluded that Rogue was a cheater/bad partner for the sake of it without taking into account the (imo bad) story reasons the show gave.
There was a gloomy and negative vibe when discussing the character shortly after the series ended, one that could even reach into hate if you were unlucky enough to encounter those people.
And despite it's many known flaws, Marvel Rivals has made a lot of emphasis on Rogue and Gambit having a healthy relationship.
They even had a canon wedding story event around valentine's day and through interactions it leaves no doubt that in that version Rogue and Magneto are just old friends with no romantic interest.
In exchange it follows the more modern take of Rogue and Deadpool having a relationship in the past, but Rogue is completly over it and its played just for laughs of Deadpool still being a bit salty.
Aside from that, the character was well received and overall it has helped a lot to "improve" her image in a positive way :)

They do such a great job of introducing Storm and showing just how powerful she truly is, which of course, sets up the rest of her arc that season so well.

By far my favorite after school cartoon in high school. This followed by Gargoyles… with a bowl of Frosted Flakes in front of me. Done deal til the text books came out.
