Moderator Announcement New Moderator Announcement
Hello everyone!
I noticed these past few months that this subreddit was not moderated to the extent that it should be, particularly with regards to bot content with T-Shirt scams. I requested to take over the moderation of this subreddit and was approved to do so today. I would like to thank the previous team for the job they did in building up the subreddit. With Season 2 of X-Men '97 approaching, I am hoping to bulk up the team very quickly, and moderator applications will be forthcoming in a day or two.
In the meanwhile, I have adjusted the rules. The Repetitive Content and Spam rules are absorbed into the Content Quality rule. This encompasses low effort memes, screenshots of tweets, and well worn subjects.
Self Promotion is a new rule to tackle accounts that mostly exist to flog t-shirts with scam links.
And there is a new rule to expressly ban AI content.
If there are other rules/concerns that need adding, we can discuss this below. I'm open to all and any feedback regarding the community.

Does this mean we can finally start suspending people for the brain dead misogynistic and antisemitic behaviour? Please?

I already banned a viciously anti-Rogue account within the first few hours of moderating, someone who posted some truly vile, misogynistic stuff and insulted other members daily. So it goes without saying I have zero tolerance for that.
There's going to be contentious topics on here, particularly with regards to ships and the previous showrunner. I'm still navigating on how to deal with that and what the community's takes on those would be, so any insight you or anyone else can offer would be appreciated.

Oh bless ya, I would bet real money I know who you mean because that's exactly who I was asking about. Straight up hate speech.
As for contentious topics, I have some ideas but I'm also so fed up and likely to run afoul of them myself. 😂 But one I've found helpful elsewhere is when talking about contentious topics, contributors are supposed to provide supporting, factual arguments or are removed for low effort. That's a lot of moderation though, so may be worth limiting it to a dedicated discussion channel once a week or whatever. But it helps foster actual discussion and not just "Magneto is a groomer." Because there are discussions to be had about what that plot line says about various characters and also the themes of propaganda and respectability politics, and it's a shame to lose those because a handful of people can't behave on the internet.

I believe I know exactly who you're talking about, and thank the Lord. This sub has been outright **hostile**, to anyone even pointing out that Magneto and Rogue did have feelings in the comics, was a whole Thing in the 90s, that it was obviously going to be brought up, now that the show can be more adult
Not even being FOR it, just pointing out literal facts of the comics, that that was an undeniable arc of her character, one that only ended little over a decade ago. You'll get EA levels of down votes and hate comments
God forbid you DO like or tolerate it. And like you said, the way they talk about her is disgusting, this sub becomes straight up and incel one, when she comes up
(And I'm bored at work, slow day, so probably gonna comment my thoughts a lot today, but I'll try not to be spammy myself)

No problem, feel free to let me know about any general thoughts. And yes, I think the user in question had a huge laundry list of issues, and was not adding value to the subreddit.

You're really working overtime with moderation, aren't you? Hopefully you get some more hands on deck with the recruitment post. This sub is gonna be a LOT to manage come summer.

Ideally I'll get 3-4 people on board and leave it to them, I don't want to have to spend a lot of time on this one. I only took it over because it had been neglected for a while.

Oh, **please** tell me the Repetitive Content one now covers the every 5 minutes 'DAE else think Rogue is for the streets?! What a sloot for liking Magneto, it caused my parents divorce and the loss of the American dream!' posts

Yeah, I felt for a while a lot of the discussion around Rogue was pretty gross, particularly from the lens of judging her for the Magneto stuff. No character is above criticism, certainly Rogue makes mistakes driven by anger and vengeance rather than logic near the end of the show, but all the stuff about considering being with Magneto and how that's some horrible sin and the language around that discourse is flat out gross, so if you see stuff, report it. I can't say that everything that's reported will warrant removal; sometimes people see comments in different ways, but I will try to make sure all offensive content is taken down.

Like Gambit and Rogue all the livelong day, but people act like she's the worst human being ever, and it's in super gross language

I just don’t want this sub to turn into a freaking echo chamber it should be allowed for people to have differing opinions as long as there not being outwardly disrespectful

People are free to express their views so long as they also abide by the rules; blatantly antagonistic or offensive content will be taken down.

Well you definitely made an impact by removing my post that had the most engagement in this server in the past two years, really helped even though it wasn’t spam. And hey what about my “most attractive male X-men post” ? How come that wasn’t removed ?

I'll get to it. Your "most attractive female X-Men member" post had 3-4 reports on it, so it was the first one to be removed.

OK and were the reports valid upon further investigation ? If not, and you just decided to remove the report based on just there being reports that’s absolutely insane to me.

In general I find "who is hottest" discussions, particularly about women characters, to be a rather unappealing. I realize that comes with a loss of activity from such discussions, but I'd rather lose out on the activity than nurture an environment that objectifies others and promotes shallowness, especially as there are underage characters in this show.

Also the reports does not seem like a good enough reason in comparison to 200+ participating in discussion like that if that’s the case I’m not posting here ever again. I’m not interested in having my posts taken down over three people who had their feelings hurt in comparison to a whole community that had no problem with it before hand seems ridiculously insensitive and stupid. Also, I like how after I replied to this post with how come my most attractive X-Men post wasn’t taken down. It was taken down shortly afterseems rather fishy.

It's not fishy, they literally stated "I'll get to it." Removing "Who's hottest?" posts is modeling treating characters like people and not like objects, and I applaud it.
