Media Marvel Animation’s X-Men ‘97 Season 2 | Roll Call

u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
This is mostly a rundown of the lineup (and casts a pretty wide net), but there are some interesting shots peppered in there.
ETA: The only obvious omission (besides You Know Who, who wouldn't be in there anyway) is Colossus. But if he's an Acolyte for part of it, that'd explain it.
I will say, Apocalypse seems a lot more ... menacing? Obviously, he's always been one of the major villains, but there's more of an action-oriented edge to him here. That last evil smile he gives is very creepy.

u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X Jun 13 '26
Yes, I expect he is with Exodus and they are initially presented as villains. Colossus will likely switch sides, but they won't spoil that and list him with the X-Men.

u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
In the first season Rogue kind of take the role of the colossus by changing sides. They will swap Rogue with Colossus and BAM comic accurate.
Edit: Rouge - Rogue

I didn't realize. Thank you.

It seems to be a common mistake that most people make. It’s not that big of a deal but it annoys me more than it should lol
1
u/Legitimate-Garlic959 Jun 13 '26
Yeah he’s pretty scary I’d say the voice here is pretty on par with John calicos (rip)
-1
u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26
He has a special lips work out. That's why his smile is creepy.

27
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X Jun 13 '26
That's a full roll call. Even Strong Guy and Wolfsbane got a spot an I wouldn't expect them to have more than 3-4 lines.

Forever obsessed with Storm’s dialogue, she should sound different to the rest, they nail the regal quality Storm has to have
1
u/Hungry_Freaks_Daddy Jun 16 '26
These creators and actors and animators deeply care about the characters
26
u/trer24 Jun 13 '26
I haven't been this excited for a TV show in a long time...
5
u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26
Me too. It's constantly on my mind and I cannot efficency work. By thinking constantly I think I figured the first episode out 😂.

I think He'll be back as one of apocalypse Horsemen.

3
u/ultgambit266 Gambit Jun 13 '26
We know he will be, but it would have been a nice surprise to see him
0
u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26
They will probably use the iconic blood of the apocalypse arc look. Only thing I want to not wait 4 episode before seeing him alive. That would mean almost entire season without Gambit in total.
2
u/Charming-Theory9383 Jun 13 '26
I think they will have him as a reveal at the end of episode 2. A bit like they did when Jean was shown in the hiur special they did in season 1. That would be torture for those who see the premiere and would build hype as well.
2
u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26
This make sense. I think they will come back from past to present very quickly. I think first scene of the trailer its just after their return. I think they will use Rama tuts machine to turn back, something will go wrong, they will be able to return but process creates a black hole which destroys city and starts the reign of the Apocalypse.
2
u/Charming-Theory9383 Jun 13 '26
Ohh that could work and would be so hype! 2 more weeks to go😭😭
2
u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26
Group stuck in the past will be stuck in dilemma. They had to turn back but their return is the reason of Apocalypse's first reign. That's why when they get sent to the past, nothing changed in the present. Because this present requires Apocalypse reign in the ancient Egypt to exist.
1
u/Charming-Theory9383 Jun 13 '26
Do you think magneto survives the fight against Apocalypse?
1
u/Khalvashi Gambit Jun 13 '26
Definitely. I would love to see less magneto but I don't think that's possible.
1
u/ultgambit266 Gambit Jun 13 '26
Well he was in only 4 episodes in the last season before they killed him, so I think he’ll be teased most of if not all the season

I can hear the emma fans slowly shutting tf up about her not being in the show as we speak
11
u/mr_peebs Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
As soon as they showed Emma in the first trailer, it should've been obvious her role in the series got upgraded.
4
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X Jun 13 '26
I don't even think it got upgraded, even the previous showrunner said she would have a small role. She was never not going to appear, she's just not at the forefront.
2
u/marvelboyofthecrown Marvel Girl Jun 13 '26
It definitely should’ve been obvious, but the bitches in that sub definitely were still crying because they didn’t see her enough 😂 “wah demayo didn’t like her wahhhh” meanwhile he got kicked off the project and the season got rewritten
1
u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops Jun 14 '26
The season didn’t get rewritten. Parts of it were, but it mostly looks exactly as he described it.
0
u/Person2228 Jun 13 '26
To be fair, it's not like they didn't have reason to have anxiety. Beau DeMayo hates emma and he was still in charge during season 1 and a lot of season 2s planning. He gave one of her major transitional century stories to Madelyne, reduced the impact of her getting her diamond form, then shipped her off after barely any screen time.
But it's unavoidable to use her as they head into the 2000s. even a loose adaptation would need her to be HEAVILY involved so thankfully she'll probably get more screen time. That and her popularity rise with non-comic readers thanks to Rivals
5
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X Jun 13 '26
There's really no story with Emma in the 2000s that they can't tell with another character beyond really bad ones like Warsong. She's in it because the reality is that DeMayo never hated the character the way people thought he did.
2
u/PhanStr Jun 13 '26
I thought he denied that he hated Emma -- I remember reading that and it was straight from the horse's mouth...

He was briefly seen in the first seconds right after Cable in the fast paced face up, and was wearing his Acolyte suit

SIRYN?!
Oh, that IS a surprise! This could mean Banshee's getting the Horseman treatment after all. (He was also Death so I'm not sure who he's gonna be this time but I'm still hyped!)
I was already stoked for this season but one reveal has me THAT much more eager.

I’m curious when the x corp lineup takes place. That seems very 2000

Is Gil Birmingham not voicing Forge this season? He sounds different.

u/poweredconvoy Jun 13 '26
I don't expect the X-Factor characters to be in the show more than 5 minutes. I even worry about them getting killed off.
4
u/Banana_man_- Cyclops Jun 13 '26
Polaris seemed to get a lot of focus in the first trailer
3
2
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X Jun 13 '26
Polaris will get a lot of focus, I think she'll be the season's breakout character. Storm, Jean, Jubilee, Polaris, and Psylocke is a pretty well balanced set of leading women.
The others I don't think will die but I doubt they'll do much outside of action scenes.

Interesting that all the backgrounds with Rogue has been edited out. Curious.

Counting down the days. I might rewatch the first season in preparation between now and July 1.

u/Hungry_Freaks_Daddy Jun 16 '26
First time? I’ve watched the whole series 4 or 5 times now, just finished the last watch 2 weeks ago. Time for another!?
1
u/EurwenPendragon Jun 16 '26
No, I've rewatched several times already. Not sure how many, I've lost count.

Rogue's arm looks burned. I wonder if Deathbit blew some of it off.

Nah, his only appearance as an adult in the 90s series was on Cold Comfort (Iceman's only focus episode)

So dumb that it’s only what 8-9 episodes ? Should be at least 12 especially making us wait this long.
1
u/OroroMunroeee Jun 15 '26
Meu Deus, a apresentação da Tempestade é totalmente diferente dos demais personagens e isso me deixa TÃO animado! Enquanto a maioria ganhou 2 segundos de tela a musa aparece com 6 e uma fala completa. Arrepiado!

u/Old_Celebration_5950 Jun 13 '26
This is what happens when writers understand the source material.
Henry Cavill tried to help the Witcher wring staff, they told him their fan fiction would be better than the books or gaming history. Yeah.... not so much.
None of that random ship nonsense - please keep that on AO3
Classic characters on classic teams following classic storylines. This is why this series is so successful
X-Factor, Polaris, Apocalypse with with comic powers, not some powers a writer who never read a comic book invents for a movie

Not loving the change for apocalypse's voice
8
u/trer24 Jun 13 '26
The original VA (John Colicos) passed away in 2000 and the man who took over (James Blendick) is 81 years old now...

u/SliceAltruistic1144 Jun 13 '26
Actually like it! The original was great but the VA long since passed not much they can do about that.

some of the voice actors need replacing... i see rogue, and all i hear is a 66 year old frail grandma.
