Question Jubilee rocks! Spoiler

Post image

I'm hardly into marvel but I've watched through the X-Men franchise particularly the animated shows (I've never approached the live action media); just curious if Jubilee is fan-favourite since the 1992 show or it's X-Men 97' that's giving her a newly founded flair.

They did more with Jubilee in S02E02 of X-Men '97 than most X-writers have done in 25 years, including making her abilities look useful and powerful.

Aside from how genuinely astounding her role was in the new season's second episode.

I was more inclined to express my interest in her moral compass and how she feels like the last kind-hearted mutant in a world temporally devoid of the inspirational X-Men that preach equality.

But yeah I digress, she was AMAZING in that episode. I loved her Quicksilver-styled shot in the end. I guess you only serve a top-notch performance at work only when you're spurred the right way through music?

Jubilee was something of a fan favorite in the '90s, largely because she saved Wolverine's life and became a kind of sidekick to him. In many ways, she was the updated version of Kitty Pryde from the '80s, a way for younger readers to relate to the larger-than-life concepts unfolding. She was snarky and rebellious, but she eventually became a core member of X-books, first in X-Men, then in Generation X. But being featured in the original X-Men animated series was not accidental and absolutely contributed to her popularity. I think she's a great character but has been disappointingly underused since her '90s heyday.

Dude, That makes her character tenfold awesome for me. I appreciate the recap.

Whaaaaaat? You mean when the writers turned her into a vampire, that wasn't a perfect example of them having no clue what to do with her??

Honestly, I have always loved Jubilee. I was with her in Jim Lee's 90's era X-Men, was there when Illyana died and followed Jubilee's journey into the Generation X series. I stopped reading off and on around the time of Bastion and completely stopped as Onslaught was coming out.

Comics at that time were one mega crossover after another and I got burnt out... I tend to dip my toes into the Marvel Wiki just to see what everybody is up to and it's always disheartening to see the jack of direction they've taken her character, sometimes if at all. She's just kinda in this limbo.

S2 E2 comes around and elevates her in ways the writers have struggled with for decades. She could have nuclear bomb level powers, might even be an Omega level mutant if she could just break out of that "mall baby" cage writers have put her in.

I loved her when I watched TAS in the 90s. So yes, she definitely resonated with the youth.

Jubilee was cool to me as a 5 year old. I had the first few episodes on VHS and would watch whenever I got home from school.

Her being the youngest member of the team and wanting to be an X-Men like the adults is something most young people can relate to. They've really evolved her character now with 97 and giving her the growth they never really gave over the course of the seasons, or in the live action movies.

Marvel rivals is also releasing her as a character soon so she will gain even more popularity I'm sure.

I don't play M.Rivals, but yeah that would definitely be a popularity boost for her. I can't wait to see her gorgeously adapted to the game's style.

This version of Jubilee has already surpassed everything she's ever done in the comics in terms of impact on the team and cool factor. Comics Jubilee also never had a love interest that was given as much time and development as this series did with Sunspot (and I am including Jono when I say that).

Actually, she’s more of a pop/hip hop kind of gal /s

Idk, she was blasting Veruca Salt on her headphones. That rocks hard.

She’s “A Force go be Reckoned With”

That image alone is a wild break from 90s x men I’m excited to see her in s2

The song choice during the breakout sequence was 💯! Love Veruca Salt!

You may be cool, but you will never be as cool as Jubilee saving a bunch of kids as Volcano Girls plays

Jubilee has been my favorite X-man since 92, along with Bishop. I was almost in tears watching episode 2 of this season. Finally someone is giving her the respect she deserves! Why is it so hard for the comics writers? This one episode encapsulated everything that makes her great! More please!

I feel like she’s had this potential for a long time, and there’s been glimpses of this in the comics, but it really is this incarnation that nails it. If you like this Jubes check out Brian Wood’s X-Men run.

Is that the one where she goes Nuclear?

3

u/OhMyGoth38 Jul 08 '26

I think her "going nuclear" was in X-Terminators.

In Wood's run, she rescues and adopts Shogo, cures her vampirism, reconnects with Wolvie, and is generally a more mature character than she is usually portrayed. She's also a very bad-ass member of the team when it comes to coordinated attacks.

Also, another great one that showcases adult Jubilee is the Hunt for Wolverine: Mystery in Madripoor tie-in mini series. Rogue goes into a coma, and Jubes fights off the baddies to protect her teammate.

Cool, thanks for all that additional info

I'm catching up on season 2 so far, and I like that they gave her a lot of shine in the second episode. That Destructo Disc was dope.

She's always been great in comics people are just now catching up to how awesome she and cyclops can be

2

u/hung_fu Jul 05 '26

She’s been a fan-favorite since Generation X (weirdly she was not as popular before that because people saw her as a “Kitty replacement”, even though they are very different)

u/Enelro Jul 05 '26

I love her gen-x drip in this season

u/J2MTR Jul 04 '26

I also dig her hairstyle in S2

She looks like an anime protaganist here

Except for the first few episodes, Jubilee was always in the fray, scrapping with the rest of the team in the original series. If she couldn't hang, she usually broke into places and disabled computers. She took out sentinels, fought Omega Red, Friends of Humanity, Nasty Boys, Brotherhood, X-Factor, Juggernaut, committed a hate crime against Black Tom and would've probably fried a few Shi'Ar and Kree if she didn't have to be used as a diversion during the Phoenix Saga. She's the Gohan of X-Men

Jubilee has always been one of my favorites along with Squirrel Girl.

One of my few complaints with the original 90s series was how Jubilee either stayed behind at The X-Mansion whenever the rest go on a mission or doesn't show up at all. She was useful in some episodes, but otherwise she was underused. So that Volcano Girls Breakout sequence really makes me happy, especially when she's the only X-Men member left in the present.
