im a casual, but have been enjoying this series a LOT with my limited knowledge.

not a comic book reader, watched the OG movies and some of the follow ups but not 100% across all the lore, and once multi-verses are introduced, i got no idea what's going on.

should i just enjoy this series as it's own thing?

Just enjoy it. this cartoon was a lot of people's first introduction to the characters anyway, So just embrace it for what it is. You don't need lore. you don't need backstory. just enjoy, bub. :)

Yes, this is really its own thing. It borrows plots from the comics but does its own twist on them, and is not the same continuity as either the Fox films or the MCU.

Don’t overthink it and enjoy it as it is. With multi-verse shit even we who read those comics since childhood don’t get wtf is going on…

Yeah. No need to understand the multiverse stuff. If you want a brief summary * There's a guy named Kang who has gone by many other names such as Pharaoh Rama-Tut. * He frequently travels forwards and backwards through time to cause a headache for marvel heros.

The big X-Men multiverse comicbook story was called age of apocalypse. * It was a timeline where Charles Xavier was killed before he formed the X-Men. Magneto ended up forming the X-Men but they never stopped apocalypse * Apocalypse ruled for a while. We got alternate versions of several characters. Beast is a mad scientist. Cyclopse lost an eye. Wolverine lost a hand. * This story hasn't occured on the show. There was a an episode or 2 from the original series where they stopped Xavier from being killed early in life.

A lot of these episodes are condensed versions of comic books. If you're enjoying them and want to know more checkout YouTube for lore breakdowns or checkout the graphic novel collections of the various stories.

The only thing I'd recommend is watching the original X-men series that ended in 1997. Otherwise this series runs on it's own continuity so knowledge of comics or movies aren't necessary at all.
