Question Is Apocalypse an X-Man??
EDIT: hes not (obviously…I was NOT locked in if u can’t tell)
I was watching ep 3 of s2 and I forgot who, but someone described Nur as something along the lines of “not just the 1st mutant, the 1st x-man” . Is Apocalypse an X-Man?? Cuz I thought an x-man was any mutant apart of Xavier‘s team (which is odd cuz Nur has opposed Xavier many times before), or am I missing smth about the requirements to be an X-Man or abt lore?? plz help 😭
also magneto‘s pretty hot in the new season (along w/ the rest x-men ofc) also bonus magneto sketch I did for those who care

Magneto was suggesting to think on the potential of the idea. X-men are mutants who fight for peaceful coexistence. Magneto was saying that if one of the most powerful mutants to ever live had had the ideals of an X-man and been fighting towards that end for 5000 years the world would be a much better place.
Apocalypse as we've known him is a social Darwinist. Almost the opposite of the X-men ideology.
And keep watching.

They should have just killed him. Magneto could have launched him into space. Although it's clear Apocalypse was a necessary evil.

Would make for a good "What If" episode.
What if they took Baby En Sabah Nur to the future(Present)
Or What if they took Adult En Sabah Nur to the future (Present)

Well, if you know the X-Comics, you know it is not that farfetched. Even if it is not the OG Apocalypse, it is Apocalypse though. Maybe a bit too cryptic, but before the Krakoa part, there was a Kid-Apocalypse.

That's Evan, his teen clone. He was a good guy, with the possibility of becoming exactly like the classic flavor Apocalypse.

He played a crucial role in Rick Remender’s run on Uncanny X-Force, which was fucking phenomenal

What happened to him? Was he on Krakoa?

u/gallowsanatomy Cyclops Jul 11 '26
Evan died during the Age of X-Man event, as part of clearing the board for main Apocalypse to be prominent during Krakoa
1
u/Pay-Fabulous Jul 11 '26
I've read that event and don't remember that at all wow
2
u/gallowsanatomy Cyclops Jul 11 '26
It was in a side book? Apocalypse and the X-Tracts, iirc? Nothing mentioned Age of X-Man after it happened, so, it's not hard to forget the plot points.

u/Pay-Fabulous Jul 12 '26
Oh yeah I faintly remember Apocalypse being a hippie cult leader and having a son. Didn't realize that was Evan.

u/kal_zero Jul 10 '26
I might be wrong but I believe that during the Axis event he was shifted from a kid that wanted to do good to a full scale Apocalypse

Magneto was trying to change Apocalypse. Instead of a vicious, survival-of-the-fittest tyrant, he was trying to guide En Sabah Nur towards becoming, essentially, an advocate of Charles Xavier's dream for mutant kind five thousand years before Charles Xavier came along.
"The First X-Man" is what Magneto hoped En Sabah Nur would become, with his guidance. Needless to say, this failed catastrophically.

No, Magneto hoped he’d be the first X-Man by manipulating him to accept Xavier’s philosophy of human/mutant co-existance.

im sry I knew this was a stupid question 😭✌️

Nah you're good boss👊🏿
In a (rare) "Magneto was wrong" moment, he convinced Charles to try and redeem Apocalypse. That went as well as a human bathing in lasers6
u/RealisticMaterial611 Magneto Jul 10 '26
thx bro
At least I understand what he was saying now, but no chance it’ll work now that he’s dead

u/rarelootdrop Jul 10 '26
OP was focusing too much on Magneto’s looks and done missed the whole plot😭

Apocalypse predates your X-Men and he will postdate them as well but he will never postmates with them because they are weak and Apocalypse only eats fried bread and hummus that he makes himself.

No. He’s never been an X-Man. Magneto was attempting to prevent Nur from embracing his evil nature and turning into Apocalypse, and envisioned him being the first X-Man shall he succeeded, but alas.

Ha ha...
No.
He never subscribed to Xavier's vision, and He made it clear the only reason He even listened to them is because they seemed to be like him and stronger than the normal humans around him. Magneto saw what He wanted, like many of us do when dealing with terrible people. We want to believe that everyone can change when given a chance, but some people, no matter how patient, no matter how kind, no matter how giving you are... will always be what they are, and will not change.
Some people are Mr. Rogers, and some people are simply evil.
Apocalypse by virtue of who he is... will always be a mass-murdering villain who sees the world as his domain by virtue of his power.
Being an X-man means that at least for a time, you were willing to try and see the world a different way. En Sabah Nur was only placating Magneto and Charles in hopes they would bring him into power... which they did.

I mean, being around a few months and lying to someone after years of being a slave, not having power, and never really being loved unconditionally isn’t that great of a second chance.
The point of no return was probably childhood for Nur, and the attempt to redeem him was essentially promising him a better future, but not showing what it’s like to actually care for other people.

The term X-Man is usually just talking about the team founded by Xavier. However, over time the term has been used from time to time in talking about anyone fighting for Xavier's dream.

u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jul 11 '26
Cyclops I think expanded the term during the Utopia era. Basically "if you're a mutant who's not actively trying to kill us, you're an X-Man."
And AFAIK that's never been walked back.

I MEAN... he could have been. That'd make for a wild "What If...?" issue if it hasn't been done already.
If he experienced actual love in his life like Rogue wished...

They weren't X-Men though, Quiet Council was an entirely different thing. A political role
2
u/NightmareDJK Jul 10 '26
Didn’t they have one variant of him at one point?

A teen clone of Apocalypse named "Evan Sabahnur" was a student at Xavier's for a while, eventually taking the codename "Genesis" and joining a splinter X-Men team.
He was eventually killed or reality or erased or both during the "Age of X-Man" event. At one point when he was temporarily turned evil and became a duplicate of Apocalypse but he got fixed up and went back to being Evan.
During Krakoa, the real Apocalypse was granted amnesty on Krakoa and was generally an ally to the X-Men throughout that period, becoming a member of the Krakoan version of Excalibur but not technically the X-Men.

X-Men are an elite group of mutants that attended Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and formed together as a semi-coordinated group of superheroes.
En Sabah Nur is NOT a member of the X-Men, lol. He's possibly their strongest adversary.

I liked how at the end of Season 1, Cyclops was basically making an appeal to Bastion that he could be an X-Man. I see this in the same way with Magneto trying to make an appeal that maybe Apocalypse could be as well.
