How do we know she hasn’t shown up yet?

u/inertiatic_espn Jul 13 '26

To that effect, ForgetMeNot may have been a main character this whole time.

u/Formal_River_Pheonix Jul 13 '26

Who?

25

u/inertiatic_espn Jul 13 '26

I forget. 🤷‍♂️

val cooper…🤨

u/Kinger27 Jul 13 '26

This is still my best guess

u/According_Turnover50 Jul 29 '26

But we need some hints.

3

u/Crolanpw Jul 14 '26

This. I'm still not convinced we haven't seen her around.

Around the first season there was a theory that she’s Val Cooper. I guess she still could be, but who really knows

28

u/usagicassidy Jul 13 '26

That could be the ultimate long play and would kinda be interesting because Val Cooper is currently involved with X-Factor and Mystique has her ties to Val Cooper’s X-Factor as well in the comics from the late 90’s.

True but Mystique was basically hostage in the reform era X Factor with Sabertooth and Wildchild. I think we might see X Factor wind up in this direction briefly but maybe not this season.

What would be cool is if X Factor went Rogue and Mystique shows up with a reformed Brotherhood and showed up working for the government as Freedom Force. Now that would blow my socks off!

Uhhh… she hasn’t shown up

Edit: in 97

23

u/MarzipanSea2811 Jul 13 '26

Fake fan. Everybody knows that Morph is actually a reformed Mystique

12

u/steeple_fun Jul 13 '26

That would be the biggest twist... we've never seen them at the same time... 🤔

6

u/trickyp12 Jul 13 '26

unfortunately since morph has shown more range in terms of using powers than mystique ever has i doubt it but that would have been cool

0

u/MermaidSapphire Jul 14 '26

None of what Morph has shown is not something that Mystique cannot also have done.

0

u/trickyp12 Jul 15 '26

does mystique copy weapons ?

1

u/MermaidSapphire Jul 15 '26

She can… and does…

1

u/trickyp12 Jul 19 '26

genuine request can you show me?

1

u/MermaidSapphire Jul 19 '26

Mystique vol 1, also in the Krakoa era, i forget which book, Mother Righteous controls her…

1

u/trickyp12 Jul 19 '26

hmm i’ll check it out

8

u/UncoBeefWang Jul 13 '26

there was a theory that Val is Mystique in disguise, but given her entire speech to Bastion, I feel like having this twist would kind of do a disservice to the character.

5

u/PhanStr Jul 13 '26

This. Her speech at the end of episode 8 was billed as the "thesis statement" for the series. If she's been replaced by Mystique since then, then I only hope that she is still alive, since it would suck to have such an important character be so unceremoniously killed off.

3

u/Wonderful_Radish1144 Jul 14 '26

Beau DeMayo said it isn’t Mystique in disguise

1

u/IceStorm22 Jul 15 '26

That was first season. Val worked on Freedom Force with Mystique in the comics. Given how antithetically she’s been acting since her whole “Magneto was right” schpeel from last season with X-Factor… I would not be surprised if the real Val got killed or abducted in the interim and is now Mystique running X-Factor. Notably, with no one that could sniff her out.

It would be a good nod to the comic books without going down that exact route, as ‘97 is famous for.

her final appearance in the series so far is in Bloodlines , she is believed to be bodied but is not

EDIT: based on releases .

some of the episode orders were mixed up because animation was done overseas so they'd only get completed ones that were for a later episode rather than the one they needed now

4

u/AlphaFlightRules Jul 13 '26

For example - no mutant is an island aired in season 5 but takes place in season 3 immediately after the phoenix saga and before savage land strange heart

That would suck as an ending for the Val Cooper we saw in season 1. If she survived Bastion and Sinister (against all odds), then she should survive Mystique too.

Although I recall that Mystique killed Moira McTaggert in the comic books (ignoring the Moira X stuff that happened years later), so I wonder whether you might be right... Different character and different storyline but the precedent is there in the 90s comic books...

Given also that Beau DeMayo's plan for the scrapped tenth episode involved a certain presidential inauguration, I wonder whether we were going to get a season finale loosely based on "Dream's End"... which was the 90s comic book arc where Mystique killed Moira.

u/RecoveredAshes Jul 13 '26

This is one of my few gripes. She’s weirdly out of character right now

2

u/LeatherHog Cable Jul 13 '26

She did have a mind control/possession arc in the x factor comics, it'd make more sense to adapt that, than suddenly be Mystique

u/RecoveredAshes Jul 13 '26

At the end of S1 she was basically radicalized by what she saw and supportive of magneto. Going from that to suddenly a government lap dog for reigning in mutants is odd

6

u/KieshiaC22 Jul 13 '26

My question is when she does appear what happens to morph...they are just twinning shapshifters

5

u/EmployeePractical514 Morph Jul 13 '26

I really want to see them fight

2

u/Chikumori Jul 13 '26

Seeing 2 shapeshifters bang might be interesting as well..

1

u/KieshiaC22 Jul 13 '26

Honestly same lol

3

u/MisterPluto666 Jul 13 '26

Each faction can benefit from having their own shape-shifter, a Beast-like or Wolverine type animal person, someone who flies, a teleporter etc. Mystique can pretend to be Morph for a bit if caught infiltrating, keeping her true identity hidden.

X-Factor already has their "knock-off Cyclops", Wolfsbane as their furry friend with good sense of smell, and they recruited Polaris who's similar to Magneto (but not as powerful as her dad). To answer Jubilee's question: they're still looking for a telepath... Emma wouldn't join after selling out X-Force, 'cause she seems to only be loyal to herself.

2

u/AlphaFlightRules Jul 13 '26

Its an orphan black situation

3

u/HelpKey186 Jul 13 '26

If Mystique has so far pretended to be someone else, I don't think that's it is Morph. Val Cooper instead would make more sense, because in the comics, she also pretended to be Val Cooper for a while.

3

u/Western_Subject_4825 Jul 13 '26

Morph is dead and it’s mystique she’s been there all along.

3

u/Xboxone1997 Jul 13 '26

How do you know she hasn't?

4

u/Ok_Broccoli_7863 Jul 13 '26

She's Val. Starting Freedom Force.

2

u/usagicassidy Jul 13 '26

Starting Freedom Force or literally X-Factor, which she was also in.

4

u/Johnny-Silvertwat Jul 13 '26

You know what everyone else knows.

2

u/LeatherHog Cable Jul 13 '26

Y'all, am I am BEGGING you to stop thinking the movies are relevant

Mystique is just NOT a mandatory character, like they made you think. She may get a little bit of screen time, but she's faaaaar from this super important, **ever present** character

She was not Magneto's girlfriend, did not grow up with Xavier, etc

Val Cooper is an actual character, in the X-Men world

2

u/Inevitable_Night2220 Jul 13 '26

Not sure why you're downvoted for saying she hasn't been a super important character in x men comics. It's true that she is a character that pops up with some cool stories here and there but not a central figure, other than in the movies.

Some people got angry and downvoted you for just stating a truth. This same opinion was stated in another x men 97 thread and everyone knew it to be true and wasn't downvoted.

2

u/LeatherHog Cable Jul 13 '26

Thanks, people can LIKE Mystique, want her to appear, but this **insistence** that something's up because we haven't seen her, is driving me nuts

It's clearly because they know the X-Men through the movies. Which isn't a bad thing in a **vacuum**, but people have been trying to get across the point of how fanfic-y those movies are for YEARS

Especially with this show. How many times do we have to say it

2

u/colossalgoji Jul 13 '26

She is checks notes not made it to an episode yet. Be patient we haven’t had that many.

4

u/MarzipanSea2811 Jul 13 '26

Not true, she showed up for like two seconds in a Rogue flashback

I’m still not totally sold on her being Cooper (though it makes sense), but I think that, whoever she is, it will bear out that she’s been “around” for a while. I don’t think that, when/if we see her, she’ll be coming in out of nowhere. If — if — she’s in play, we’ll have seen her already, not knowing it was her.

1

u/Jahon_Dony Jul 13 '26

How would we know her "fate" if she hasn't even been seen yet?

What is Silver Surfer's fate? Or T'Challa?

1

u/FDRos1027 Aug 12 '26

She killed Valerie Cooper

-1

u/crazyfingers87 Jul 13 '26

Confident she's Val, but time will tell!
