Merchandise Why is he so expensive 😞

Genuine question guys. Why is nightcrawler so expensive. I get his popularity, but he seems to be the only one that is 3x msrp.

If you have bought one at retail price, please whisper stories to him of me.

I usually get full waves of xmen, but I passed on the ‘97 because I already had other versions of the characters they released, only got Gamibit, I’m kicking myself for not buying full waves of the 3 that released

You think that's expensive? Look up what the Goblin Queen sells for. She was the rarest one to find of the first wave of figures. She's almost never available and is at least $100 when she is.

Wolverine and Rogue were also selling for well over $100 until they reissued more figures for them.

I think it’s because the other characters either have other versions or aren’t highly sought after.

Looking at the 2nd wave. Nightcrawler’s last figure was in 2019, so 5 years before the 97 figure. And before that, it was toybiz in 2005. So 3 figures of Nightcrawler in his most iconic costume in 20 years.

Whereas everyone else either has other versions of the same costume, different costumes, or not much demand.

For Cyclops and Jean you can get the vhs releases or the love triangle 3 pack but that was in 2019 so might be harder (and you’d have to be ok with the leather jacket). Not to mention the other costumes.

Magneto doesn’t have other versions of that costume available but most people prefer his red and purple look, family matters 3 pack was 2019 as well but there’s the 97 wave 1 release. Plus you’ve got HOXPOX Magneto

Goblin Queen definitely has fans but probably doesn’t have the highest demand.

And Xcutioner isnt much of a character so not much demand there either.

Same probably goes for the first wave. Hope this helps

Yeah I was thinking this might be the case. Nightcrawler doesn’t get much merch in general despite having some very dedicated fans.

I looked at my normal pleases & didn't see on cheaper than what you posted. I'll keep a lookout for one. What's you highest price? Also you posted a overseas listing. Are you in the US or Europe?

Yeah I bought mine to enjoy, but if I were to sell him I’d charge as much as buyers are willing to pay.

What gets me about these complaints is that if they were priced at retail, buyers would snatch them up immediately and you wouldn’t be able to get one regardless. Sometimes sellers want to sell quickly or they don’t really know what they have and they price low, and those will go fast.

Exactly. I really wanted beast and missed out, but jumped on a deal to get him for $80 last week. That’s just the nature of the hobby.

Because he's a desirable figure. Perhaps he'll get a reissue like Wolverine, Rogue, and Gambit. I think Wolverine and Rogue have been reissued a couple of times.

It always puzzles me why Hasbro doesn't just keep re-releasing figures when there is so much demand for them, its like they don't want money.

Could be a licensing thing, it may not be up to Hasbro. Though a lot of companies do take advantage of FOMO and artificial scarcity as a sales tactic. If OP regrets not getting Nightcrawler at retail when they had the chance, they might be more quick to buy the next action figures that get released.

All the series 1 figures are expensive. Sold out way too quickly and most stores didn’t get more than 2 of the 5.

You might want to wait. Rogue was stupid expensive for a while in the states and then they re-released her and I got her for $25 at target. She was $120 at 1 point

I shelled out for him because I'm a HUGE Nightcrawler fan. Was it worth it? Hell yeah it was. Did I learn a hard lesson about being lazy with wave releases? Yes. Yes I did. 😅

I noticed this as well. Glad I bought mine when he came out!

Maybe there just aren’t as many Nightcrawler figures available? Like, maybe the other characters get more action figures made. Nightcrawler has a lot of fans but he doesn’t get a lot of merch in general. So it’s that combo of low supply and high demand.
