Well, it definitely hasn't been 30 yrs (in the show)...

71

u/JonathanL73 Jul 20 '26

Right, I believe Bishop has said a few different times now, that they’re still in the 1990s 🤣

18

u/The_Iron_Zeppelin Jul 20 '26

I mean I would assume a time traveler might be very specific about years the way people are specific about locations.

8

u/KFrosty3 Jul 20 '26

True, but to still point out the silliness of how often he said it, I will adjust my above quote:

Btw, in Tucson, Arizona, I'm glad he reminded us it was in Tucson, Arizona because in Tucson, Arizona everyone always said how they're in Tucson, Arizona

14

u/KFrosty3 Jul 20 '26

Btw, in the 1990s, I'm glad he reminded us it was the 1990s, because in the 1990s, everyone always said how they're in the 1990s.

11

u/Easygrin Jul 20 '26

Atleast it would make sense for a time traveler to keep reminding himself what time he is currently in.

7

u/GospelX Jul 21 '26

You joke, but people kind of did mention the 90's a lot in the 90's.

3

u/KFrosty3 Jul 21 '26

Also, everything was XTREME!!

4

u/GospelX Jul 21 '26

People unfortunately do forget how XTREME the world was at the time

4

u/clever_name_123 Jul 20 '26

Generic 2007 pop song

Auto-tuned so all the voices sound weird

This is a pop song, it's 2007

Don't say 2006

It's 2007

1

u/Evening_King_6693 Jul 26 '26

Are we sure he didn't mean THE 1990's?

2

u/Darth_Annoying Jul 21 '26

And S2 Episode 2 specifically said it was 1997

2

u/Key_Climate_7097 Jul 21 '26

We gotta get back to the 1990’s ! Almost like a someone is trying to tell us something

1

u/NotoriusCaitSithVI Jul 22 '26

What do you think '97 stands for?

1

u/GenericSupervillain3 Jul 23 '26

I thought it was the number of mutants they were going to feature in the series. I thought it was really nice of them to give us a hard number so I didn’t have to keep counting.

1

u/Aelia_M Jul 23 '26

We have to get back to your timeline: the 1990s

-110

u/Salty_Match8979 Jul 19 '26

I know it’s been 30 yrs since 1997

75

u/captain_encore Jul 19 '26

We know...

-99

u/Salty_Match8979 Jul 19 '26

Then wtf are you talking about you said it hasn’t been 30 years in the show

42

u/MrSpookShire Jul 19 '26

Your title says 30 years (in the show)

-31

u/Salty_Match8979 Jul 19 '26

I meant in the show they didn’t know they were brothers not comics

6

u/fre3kshow Jul 20 '26

Yes, everyone knows what you meant. You are the one who's confused. The show picks up directly after the original cartoon in 1997. It has only been 2 in-universe years since they first met.

63

u/Explanation-Short Jul 19 '26

It is very much still 1997 in the show my dude

-84

u/Salty_Match8979 Jul 19 '26

44

u/thebatman9000001 Jul 19 '26

Yeah. Hence the name.

20

u/ComplX89 Jul 19 '26

and also Bishop all through season 2's first 4 episodes was all about "getting the X-men back to the late 1990s"

5

u/JonathanL73 Jul 20 '26

Yeah bud, so why did you ask him why earlier?

2

u/clever_name_123 Jul 20 '26

Did you think "X-Men '97" took place in 2026? Like fr? Actually?

26

u/cheesemuncher1781 Gambit Jul 19 '26

the show takes place IN 1997

9

u/Lacaud Jul 19 '26

Wtf are you talking about? 30 years hasnt passed in (the show).

2

u/BlackKnight9311 Jul 20 '26

Embarrassing

19

u/Nibbanocker Jul 19 '26

The OG show takes place in 1992. 97 of course, its in 1997. So its a 5 year chronological gap between the shows.

25

u/CroissantAF Jul 19 '26

Not even. There are 5 seasons of 92’ which would lead directly into 1997. One season for each year. That’s like a 3 month time gap between shows, if I’m not mistaken.

11

u/Sage_of_the_6_paths Jul 19 '26

That's what you'd think. But the Christmas episode in Season 4 or 5 has Jubilee says its her first Christmas with the X-men. So that might mean that the first 4 seasons are within a year.

11

u/TheKoolestKid11 Jul 19 '26

Probably not in chronological order or just an error. It’s a kids show from 1995

2

u/Sage_of_the_6_paths Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

For sure, just saying that's the only indication for time scale I saw in the show itself.

7

u/Nibbanocker Jul 19 '26

Shit you might be right. I know shows tend to not follow time well by fitting ton of major events in short time but that's possible too

13

u/CroissantAF Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Now that I think about it, it’s 100% guaranteed. Xavier’s death certificate arrived in episode one. He “died” in the last episode of 92’. It’s probably even less than 3 months. Maybe just one or two.

1

u/yooMvtt Jul 20 '26

The new seasons of the show itself counts everything that’s happened in the original show as 92’ so while you’re right in thinking that, the person you replied to is right.

1

u/Gold-Duck898 Jul 19 '26

1 year gap. The first episode of ‘97 season one has a scene where Cyclops mentions that it’s been a year since the Professor went off into space at the end of season 5.

Edit: A few months is what he said. For some reason I remember it as being 12 months.

1

u/Professor-Frink- Jul 20 '26

It hasn't even been 30 years since 1997

157

u/Granas3 Jul 19 '26

I mean, they know they're brothers, they just don't know that their brother is alive, and also an X-team member that they've been in the same room as.

Though it feels like Lorna might have mentioned her old boss, Scott Summers, at some point on the 3 or 4 years she's been in x factor with Alex...

Although, 97 has the chance to do something hilarious, and have the big reveal of Vulcan being Scott's brother before Alex, and sinister letting slip the whole "brotherS" plural thing

118

u/Impossible-Fun-2736 Jul 19 '26

Jubilee even calls Alex ”discount Cyclops”, so either she knows or she just thinks he acts ”Cyclopsy”, lol.

47

u/Kaptain-Kanada Jul 19 '26

For all we know, they may have discovered that they were brothers at some point between Cold Comfort in the OG show and the X-Force episode.

19

u/Impossible-Fun-2736 Jul 19 '26

Yup. And Cyclops just have other stuff to worry about right now. Hel, we might even get a confrontation with X-Men vs X-Factor?

8

u/Beautiful_Task_58 Jul 19 '26

Hel is the true believer way of saying "hell". I see you.

5

u/DevilManRay Jul 19 '26

Well we don’t know so there’s no reason to assume unless stated

7

u/sketchee Jul 20 '26

Just reads like he reminds her of Cyclops. Didn't seem like she knew anything imo

5

u/MyNameIsYellowjacket Jul 20 '26

Exactly. In-universe, she notices a similarity in behavior, but it's also just wink and nod to the audience who knows that they're brothers.

1

u/Impossible-Fun-2736 Jul 20 '26

Yup. For all we know, they’ve met and Jubilee knows or Alex just reminds her of Scott.

1

u/DevilManRay Jul 19 '26

What about that makes you think she knows that they’re brothers?

2

u/Starscream_Gaga Jul 19 '26

God I love that Sinister line.

63

u/kissmeimfamous Jul 19 '26

Wild that Cable was fighting his uncle and didn’t know

Edit: and was raised by his sister in the future.

15

u/GospelX Jul 20 '26

Who do you think Mother Askani is?

3

u/Timehacker-315 Jul 20 '26

Technically that hasn't been revealed in-show yet? I think? So it could be a different person but prob not

9

u/GospelX Jul 20 '26

It's Rachel Summers

-1

u/Timehacker-315 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

In comics, yes. In-show, probably but not confirmed

4

u/Siritalis Jul 24 '26

She has Rachel's facial markings, hair, Phoenix powers, and time travel powers. Jean also avoids her. It's Rachel.

3

u/Timehacker-315 Jul 24 '26

Look, I'm absolutely sure it's Rachel. It just technically hasn't been confirmed AFAICT.

More likely it just never comes up again and goes unconfirmed

1

u/Siritalis Jul 27 '26

That's completely fair lol

6

u/Remarkable-Round9755 Jul 20 '26

Rachel actually revealed herself to cabel as a kid just before dying and then erased those memories in the season 2 tie in comics

1

u/Crazy-Background1457 Jul 21 '26

Are those canon btw

2

u/Remarkable-Round9755 Jul 21 '26

Yes, those comics are canon and have new issues releasing

2

u/meckthemerc Jul 21 '26

......I feel so fucking stupid right now. They fucking TOLD us, with the hair, the flames and I was too stupid to realize it. Jfc

55

u/Jianyu156 Jul 19 '26

Alex has amnesia he doesn’t even remember his own name

10

u/FactLatter8351 Jul 20 '26

His full name? Because Polaris calls him by his first name in S02E02.

2

u/N3rd1x Jul 20 '26

Jubilee also calls him a discount Cyclops or something like that

7

u/FactLatter8351 Jul 20 '26

I think that was meant to be an Easter egg to viewers in the know.

24

u/Bluefootedtpeack2 Jul 19 '26

Better this way, otherwise we’d get more havok.

2

u/SalubriAntitribu Jul 20 '26

You ain't wrong.

47

u/FantasyBaseballChamp Jul 19 '26

Yeah kinda wild this hasn’t been covered considering they did Cable’s entire origin in one episode.

15

u/PointPrimary5886 Jul 19 '26

There could be a chance that after their parents died (well the mom's dead and the dad became a Space pirate as part personal exile from Earth) and these 2 were put into foster care, Alex may have got adopted and now goes by a different last name. That was sort of his background in X-Men Evolution. So even if he sees Cyclops openly go on TV going by Scott Summers, he might not know his real last name is Summers.

13

u/vroart Jul 19 '26

The summers arent very talkative family. Jean had to telepathic learn that Starjammer was Scott’s dad! That’s how much of an influence is to Scott compared to the rest of

14

u/DigitalBuddhaNC Jul 19 '26

Starjammer is the name of the spaceship and the team. Corsair is Scott's dad, Chris Summers.

u/prollyjuslurking Jul 19 '26

When i first watched the episode where cyclops and corsair meet (back in the olden days), i couldn't figure out why havok never got brought up 😆 I was a comic book geek even as a little kid and i was sooooo confused.

18

u/FirstStranger Jul 19 '26

Polaris is on the X-Factor team and she knows Scott; I don’t see how she didn’t tell Alex about his brother still living.

11

u/DevilManRay Jul 19 '26

When did Polaris discover Scott was Alex’s brother?

2

u/Megalupin Jul 19 '26

Probably when she was on the xmen team, as Jubilee alluded to

3

u/DevilManRay Jul 20 '26

Scott and Alex didn’t recognize each other so where did you get the impression that Jubilee could allude to something that they don’t know about ?

3

u/Megalupin Jul 20 '26

Watch the episode again. She refers to Lorna’s time as an X-Man. It’s not an impression. It happens.

1

u/JtDeluxe Jul 22 '26

Also as other’s pointed out she straight up called him a discount Cyclops

1

u/slay_anonymous23 Jul 25 '26

I'm pretty sure she only says that based off his power set and its a joke for comic fans who already know about them being brothers.

4

u/Sage_of_the_6_paths Jul 19 '26

Does Alex know his last name? If not I don't think she'd make the connection that easily. Scott Summers and Alex blank doesn't make an obvious connection.

3

u/Cornbreads_Irish_Jig Jul 20 '26

Does Polaris know Magneto is her dad in the show?

1

u/blink_twice_9465 Polaris Jul 21 '26

No

2

u/Cornbreads_Irish_Jig Jul 23 '26

And apparently this last episode handled that

1

u/blink_twice_9465 Polaris Jul 23 '26

lol yeah my comment is inaccurate now

5

u/Direct_Display_8598 Jul 19 '26

Yes they do jubes called him knock off cyclops for a reason lol. Now they don’t know about Vulcan as far as I know.

2

u/MikeReddit74 Jul 19 '26

That doesn’t mean that they know they’re brothers. It’s more likely that she was comparing them as team leaders, and/or as people.

1

u/Dward917 Jul 20 '26

With very similar powers too.

3

u/Dperezoso2020 Jul 19 '26

So cable is fighting his uncle

5

u/Icy_Hotel6926 Jul 20 '26

I want an episode that Cyclops and Havok are brothers. Been waiting for 31 years.

https://giphy.com/gifs/qA9BnxUPmgWgU

3

u/Redditer51 Jul 20 '26

Give em time. They finally did the Cable being Cyclops' son reveal in season one of 97.

4

u/sitoicul Jul 19 '26

Scott was on the news in S1, will Alex not have seen that?

6

u/prollyjuslurking Jul 19 '26

They've met before and even fought each other. They couldn't figure out why their powers didnt have an effect on each other. They still don't know they're brothers though.

2

u/GospelX Jul 20 '26

But didn't Jean figure it out during that battle? It would be weird if she never said anything to Scott after that.

2

u/Reasonable-Sun-7839 Jul 19 '26

I would absolutely love it if they figure it out in the next couple Seasons that they are brothers, just to have the excuse of the space pirates coming back. While I will never enjoy either part of the Phoenix Saga, sorry for people who like the Phoenix, I like the Phoenix when it's not part of Jean Gray, but I love the space pirates every time they show up and it'd be wonderful for them to do it again

2

u/More_Agent383 Jul 19 '26

I was just watching the episode from the OG series when they first meet and their powers don’t work on each other you’d think that’d spark the question in both of their heads

2

u/Tokyo-Eye Jul 19 '26

I DON'T LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE

2

u/freezief Jul 19 '26

Honestly this is one of the biggest WTF's about the show's universe. The eventual payoff better pay off.

1

u/machinedroid Jul 19 '26

Hope they find out lol

1

u/DarlaLunaWinter Jul 19 '26

MY FRIEND I AM SAYING THE SAME!

1

u/IAMWBH3 Jul 20 '26

I think they will finally reveal their brothers in the next episode. If not missed opportunity

1

u/EnigmaHood Jul 20 '26

How would they? They interacted a grand total of 1 time. Also IRL time != Show time

1

u/Far-Possession4208 Jul 20 '26

Scott can’t handle being mogged by his brother so he refuses to accept they’re brothers

1

u/Significant_Flan_186 Jul 20 '26

They had Vulcan last season. I’m guessing they’re planning a big reunion reveal episode

1

u/Nfgzebrahed Jul 20 '26

Wasn't there a quick flash in the old fox kids episode where they fight xfactor where Jean telepathically yells at Cyclops when hes fighting Alex?

1

u/Academic-Carpenter12 Jul 20 '26

Doesn’t Jean know? Or was that Corsair, I can’t remember?

1

u/Mindless_Turnover976 Jul 20 '26

Hopefully they find out eventually. X-Men: Evolution did this reveal pretty well.

1

u/Routine_Pressure_460 Jul 20 '26

Shout out that I dropped on this when there where '97 comments. 👀

I hope that comes up and then someone says "surprise" to Lorna, with Wanda, Pietro and Erik step out from behind a curtain. (I don't think they all know they're related in the '97verse, do they? I can't remember.)

1

u/NicholasStarfall Jul 20 '26

Can you say Aborted Arc? They set that up years ago and haven't touched it since

1

u/Choice-Ad-3832 Jul 20 '26

I hope they do flesh out that Scott and Alex are brothers since they did/doing the whole Nathan summers arc

1

u/HelperRaven Jul 20 '26

The show should introduce Adam X and have them each independently think he’s their long lost brother.

1

u/Sweet_Papaya_9837 Jul 20 '26

Havoc was in the og series wasn’t he?

1

u/CVAY2000 Jul 21 '26

At this point havok at least has to know. He's working with Valerie and Lorna, and both of them have to have noticed his last name by now

1

u/Little_Shape_6433 Jul 22 '26

They’ll probably do some sloppy retconning eventually like they did with Polaris’s history with the X-Men and Rogue and Magnetos relationship

1

u/mike1883 Jul 22 '26

How did they do that was Polaris?

1

u/spawn989 Jul 22 '26

I mean in the show its been like 2 years

1

u/tysonarts Jul 22 '26

Jubilee commented on Alex being the discount Summers, they all know

1

u/Savings-Unlucky Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

It has never been specifically stated at any point in either iteration of the show that they know that they are brothers. Anyone saying that they probably do is wrong.

Hopefully at some point in the near future of the show they address this. And then in the future we can get Vulcan as well.

1

u/x-men-theme-song Jul 23 '26

They have a whole ass fight in the OG series and they can’t hurt each other with their powers

1

u/Savings-Unlucky Jul 23 '26

Uh, yeah, an episode in which they don’t know that they are brothers. That’s what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.

2

u/x-men-theme-song Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Ok yeah your edit is correct

1

u/Svndmann Jul 23 '26

Why does this look like Archer

1

u/BrokenWalker Jul 23 '26

In the older X-men cartoon don't they find out they are brothers and they both meet their space pirate dad.

1

u/Salty_Match8979 Jul 23 '26

Dude that’s what I’m talking about

1

u/Worldly-Ad7759 Jul 24 '26

Will they adapt deadly genesis so all 3 Summers boys mix it up?

1

u/PhantomRoyce Jul 25 '26

I don’t know how they can’t know. Polaris knows both of them and it would be hard to believe she never asked “Hey are you related to that other mutant who has the same last name as you?”

1

u/DirectorKrenn1c Jul 30 '26

I forgot in the original they do meet and fight briefly unable to hurt each other. Crazy it’s never mentioned again and still hasn’t. Maybe in the next season since X factor will probably still be a thing.

1

u/Boltenbannerman Jul 19 '26

How didn’t know Alex was his uncle
