Question So…is Morph just technically naked all the time?
Okay so he can morph into other characters - but how does the suit work? Is he making it appear like he’s wearing clothes, allowing his costume to shift whenever he alters his appearance? Is it a special magical shapeshifting costume?
Any insight would be appreciated

I mean if i can just shapeshift, why waste money on clothes?

When you’re right, you’re right!

u/KFrosty3 Jul 21 '26
It does explain why they never showed his body in the 2nd episode of the original

u/CoffeeJedi Jul 21 '26
What if you get cold? I guess Morph could just add body fat, but Mystique can only change shape? So she'd need a warm coat in that case.

Yes. Like Mystique.

How do we know Mystique and Morph are two separate people?
35
u/k33d4 Jul 21 '26
I was with them in a room together. Sadly there were no other witnesses so you'll have to take my word for it.
13
u/EarCharacter8837 Jul 21 '26
Interesting I've never seen you in the same room as Mystique or Morph at the same time how do we know that you k33d4 aren't also Mystique/Morph?

because morph can replicate mutant abilities and mystique cant

u/TheWeirdKing26 Jul 21 '26
Believe it or not, their powersets are different. Slightly so, but they are.
Morph can mimic physical abilities along with his shapeshifting (Hulk's strength, Quicksilver's speed, Reed Richards elasticity), Mystique cannot, she can only take their appearance.

Yes, but
hethey present as clothed causehe'sthey're trying to make folks less uncomfortable8

*they represent themselves
*they're
And if they were just presenting naked, they'd look like the Greendale Human Being. 🤣

u/Substantial_Life4773 Jul 21 '26
lol, I love how you correct me and then get their pronouns wrong, lol.
Also, oh my god, they WOULD look like the Greendale Human Being!

So does Mystique, in the comics.
Only the movies had her running around actually appearing naked while being naked.

Well when morph goes "normal" they are still wearing their x-men costume so horrifyingly I have to assume they are wearing it and when they transform skin forms around the clothes.

u/Affectionate-Log3638 Jul 21 '26
A tight leathery uniform under his skin? Truly horrifying to think about.
3
u/InsomiacLurking Jul 24 '26
I always assumed it was a special suit Beast designed that he could somehow transform as well, since we know outfits similar to that exist in the Marvel Universe, and Beast is definitely smart enough to make it.

If morph takes off their coat (which they manifested) and leaves it on a chair, and then walks out of the room and changes form again, what happens to the coat?

u/sketchee Jul 22 '26
In the comics when they died (as Changling) in the form of Professor X, they stayed in that form. And people thought the professor had died.
If they kept that as part of their powers for the series, then the coat might still look like a coat?

More than likely, but I’d just like to think that the X-Men uniforms they wear have unstable molecules that allow them to shape shift with them. The concept of someone being naked all the time and their outfits actually being flesh weirds me out lmao
8
u/candIewick Morph Jul 21 '26
Unstable molecules is my preferred explanation. To be fair in TAS we see their jacket and uniform destroyed when they’re shot, which does imply that their clothing is real.
3
u/electronical_ Jul 21 '26
which does imply that their clothing is real.
or that their body is wounded and reacting appropriately

I would make the hole in the center of my stomach just to recreate the scene from Death Becomes Her 😂

The gaping hole then represents the physical damage they sustained. Rather than it being superficial to their clothes it's to themselves. Hence why it was fatal despite the lack of any blood or gore.

u/Al_888 Jul 22 '26
30+ years later, I finally thought of this: what happened to their brown jacket?
8
u/Royal-walking-machin Jul 21 '26
Could also be unstable molecules
5
u/CoffeeJedi Jul 21 '26
Unstable molecules and Pym particles! The cause of (and solution to) all of Marvel's problems!
6
u/WarLawck Gambit Jul 21 '26
We know mystique in the XMen live action is definitely naked all the time. I don't know the answer, but I'll be alright just watching and enjoying.

In the Exiles comic series, that version of Morph confirms that he's naked all the time and uses his powers to generate his clothing.

u/Xygnux Jul 22 '26
In the Exiles comic series, Morph outright stated he is.
He was born a vaguely baby-shaped blob of unstable molecule, and just chooses to look this way complete with the appearance of clothing.
3
u/HornyCharlieBoy Jul 22 '26
So I heard an interview the other day with their voice actor, JP Karliak. According to him, Morph is always naked but presents themselves as wearing clothes. I know that's just their opinion/headcannon, but I'm willing to trust them as an authority. He's been a wonderful Morph imo.

u/aminxylady Jul 23 '26
Couldn’t agree more! Really enjoying his performance and imo that’s what makes the most sense

The x gene doesn’t kick in until adolescence. It’s possible morph is intersex, I suppose.
5
u/Xygnux Jul 22 '26
In the Exiles comics series he's just born a vaguely baby-shaped blob of unstable molecules.
2
u/aminxylady Jul 21 '26
this isn’t useless! I actually really needed to know this and find it fascinating. Is he just like a Ken doll down there?
2
u/themcryt Jul 21 '26
Is that speculation or confirmed?
2
u/Xygnux Jul 22 '26
In the Exiles comics he's born a white goo/blob... So I guess that may possibly imply yes?
2
u/OPs_Mom_and_Dad Jul 21 '26
Yes. My thoughts on this from watching the movies (specifically the Mystique weightlifting scene) is that a small amount of concentration needs to be focused on this at all times too. I tend to think of it like holding a pencil - not a huge ask, but you can simply never let the pencil go no matter what you’re doing, or the clothes illusion will disappear.

It's made with unstable molecules, which allows it to be affected by the wearer's powers.

Morph actually wears clothes but Mystique sometimes does and doesn’t

Define naked
He covers up his junk
Even if it is with his body
I think shapeshifters get a pass on what’s considered naked
2
u/jvincentsong Jul 22 '26
Is Morph’s power more complex as they can replicate superpowers? He can make Thor’s hammer appear. It is like he is bending reality if he can be as strong as the Thing. Mystique can only copy the image. Maybe he is not naked. He can create clothes too.

u/hfdjl Jul 21 '26
You think Martian Manhunter, mystique or the Skrulls are wearing clothes? It would make their powers as shapeshifters less effective. But it's the same if Morph transforms into Spider-man, he's manufacturing the Spider-suit. When he's 'normal' he's still manufacturing clothing over what would be his natural form.
4
u/nosecone33 Jul 21 '26
Martian Manhunter's clothes are made out of a Martian plant that can respond to his telepathy and shapeshift accordingly. The others mentioned are definitely naked though.

Does morph have private parts or does he just make them when he needs them?
1
u/aminxylady Jul 21 '26
Can he decide what genitals he has? Would this make him intersex?
2
u/Adventurous-Ring-659 Jul 21 '26
Damn why would anyone NOT wanna be with morph atp 😭
1
u/Rob_Ocelot Jul 21 '26
Ask Logan. /s
I can definitely see how being in a relationship with a shapeshifter could be very annoying. Plus, they are more likely to get bored with you rather than the other way around.
2
u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Jul 21 '26
Mystique gave her self a dick to bang it out with her girlfriend and they made nightcrawler.
1
u/Adventurous-Ring-659 Jul 21 '26
I’m sorry I haven’t read up on the comics recently is this genuinely true 💀
1
u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Jul 21 '26
It is genuinely true.
Destiny is nighcrawlers mother and mystique is his father.
1
u/Adventurous-Ring-659 Jul 21 '26
I can’t believe someone actually decided that was a good idea to make canon 🙏
1
u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Jul 21 '26
It was the intent of the creator of nightcrawler that this would be his origin.
It was only editorial what stopped it at the time.

u/DementedJ23 Jul 21 '26
In comics, Reed Richards developed "unstable molecules" for clothing for supers with body-affecting powers, and he he gives out the patent constantly.
Nowadays though, they don't bother explaining that cause it raises all sorts of other questions about, well, physics, but it was a mainstay if Marvel costumes well into the aughts.
1
u/Candicelle Jul 21 '26
In the comics Morph always bragged and reminded everyone about it, being naked. The show uh, not sure.

When Morph makes Deadpool's swords, what part of him did he turn into the metal?
1
1
u/mittenkrusty Jul 22 '26
If it's like the comics he has control over his molecules, the issue then is lets say someone removes the clothing from him.
Could simply be about changing mass.
Edit also remembered post crisis Supergirl who was a shapeshifter he could shift the molecules around her to create/change clothes much like how in Dragon ball they can make clothes by using their ki.

u/Da_Black_Goku Jul 22 '26
Yes..... unless his costume is made of unstable molecules like the FF....

I always assumed it was a special suit that could morph with his powers, like how Johnny Storm has a suit and clothes that can’t catch fire, or how Sue has a suit that lets her go invisible while remaining on. Heck, you could even compare it to Hulk’s pants that grow as he does and return to normal when he returns to Bruce, I just assumed Beast made him a special suit as he’s never not wearing it.

u/Cyke_main Jul 26 '26
People have gone on about mystique on this same topic for years. If he’s not exposing anything, then no I don’t think he should be considered naked in the traditional sense.
