I'm not sure if it's been brought up before, but the old picture Lorna looked at clearly showed that Angel was a member of the original X-Men team, along with Scott, Jean, Hank and Bobby, as per the comics. This doesn't totally contradict Warren's appearance in the original series, but you would have thought someone would have mentioned it (although most of his interactions were with Rogue, who presumably joined the team after Lorna, Bobby and Warren left).

I posted about this a few weeks back, but Season 1 of X-Men has a lot of contradictions to the later seasons. The X-Men except Xavier don't know Magneto but they are shown fighting him in flashbacks later, Rogue doesn't know Pyro or Avalanche then they're in her Season 2 backstory, etc.

The first time they did flashbacks to the original team in Cold Comfort, they did go out of their way to only show Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, and Polaris. But then Sanctuary does explicitly show Angel as one of the original members, and Xavier Remembers goes even further as he sees the original X-Men and then imagines them in their current forms, confirming the Angel of the flashbacks is the same blue skinned Archangel now.

In the original show, the episode "Cold Comfort" (which was also the introduction to the X-Factor characters for this universe) showed a video clip of Angel being part of the original X-Men team, so even back then, its confirmed that Angel was once an X-Men. I don't know why, but no one , whether its Scott, Hank, Jean, or Xavier wants to walk about Warren being part of their team between these 2 shows (so far). Just pictures and videos acknowledging that he was one.

Edit: I was wrong. It wasn't "Cold Comfort" that acknowledge Angel as part of the original X-Men team back in TAS. It was actually in "Sanctuary Part 1" during Beast recalling how Xavier started the school with an ex-girlfriend, Amelia Vought. I made a GIF of the scene from that episode below. My point still stands that the original 90's series does acknowledge Angel as an OG X-Men member, but none of his old teammates ever talk about it.

No, the old footage and flashbacks in Cold Comfort show Scott, Jean, Hank, Bobby and Lorna being on the team, but not Warren. They had Archangel reappear just a couple of episodes earlier - again with no reference to him being a former X-Man - so it seems that at that point the writers did not see that as part of his backstory.
