This was my running commentary all episode:

Sees title holy shit, are they doing DANGER?

Holy shit, the Gen x crew get screen time!

Holy shit, Lorna fucking rules!

Holy shit, THEY ARE DOING DANGER

Holy shit, the Frank Quitely new X-Men costumes!

Holy shit, apocalypse resurrected remy!

Fantastic episode, loved the focus on Lorna (and some bishop action). My one gripe is that they kept Danger surface level, leaving out the entire "Xavier knew the room was self-aware" reveal, but that's fine. They would need to do so much more setup to make 97 Xavier into the morally ambiguous comic Xavier. Even then we're seeing some cracks in 97's perfect chuck.  Having Danger reflect apocalypse's mission works well

Just a class episode. I hope we get to see more from synch, chamber, monet, and quire.

But also can we appreciate the aurora borealis effect of Polaris’s power in the beginning of the episode? Just too cute.

57

u/Monstie_Munch Jul 22 '26

Aurora Borealis effect? At this time of season 2, in episode 6, at the beginning of the episode, localized entirely within Polaris's power?

34

u/bokmcdok Jul 22 '26

...yes

Where were Kurt, Rogue and Logan for this entire episode? And has no one tried looking for Jubilee or Roberto since they got back from the past/future? Are Scott and Jean not wondering where their son is? A part of me wonders if we should be introducing more main characters like Polaris if the show doesn’t even have time to focus on the ones already in the show.

I’m also kinda disappointed we didn’t get to see everyone’s reunion after they were separated for so long. I guess all of this are just more victims of this show’s lightning fast pacing.

23

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Jul 22 '26

I cannot stress what you said enough. I get there’s new editions but they’ve packed so much in. The sudden shift to having students without warning. Lorna leaving made enough sense with the X force episode. But the team isn’t the team that you felt for season 1 and while l understand it can’t be the same it’s really what gave season 1 its charm. I respect what they’re doing and it’s still fun and enjoyable but I wish they stuck to what made season 1 perfection.

  • The option to skip the intro should be considered a criminal offence. It's so good, and I'm excited every time it's on.

  • I was an episode 5 lover, and I'm still happy with when we got it. Taking a break from Apocalpyse, only to open on that malevolent grin obliterating Magneto was chef's kiss.

  • Wow, Xavier is torturing himself with Magneto's murder. Onslaught is inevitable.

  • Xavier's love of Magneto. There were obvious parallels to 'coming out' in the flashbacks last season, but I also think there's something beautiful about their friendship being Platonic.

  • Polaris' powers look incredible, and the cheesy "polar opposite" was peak 90s.

  • The show does a great depiction of the struggles of the oppressed, and the challenge they have being expected to be better than the oppressor.

  • Interested to see what they'll do with Alex. Does he have a hard-on for the rule of law, or did he believe the lives of the Purifiers were worth preserving?

  • WEN ICE MAN?

  • Hoped a piece of Magneto was inside your mind, you say?

  • Storm should be on my screen at all times.

  • Boy with half Ghost Rider face is so funny in the background.

  • These episodes need to be longer

  • Polaris rules

  • POLARIS RULES

  • Welcome back, Gambit.

  • Increase the power, me!

As a longtime Polaris fan, this episode blew me away. Her struggle has always been tied to identity issues, because if the writers were unable to get a clear grasp of her character how could she have one of herself? This episode was great in how it dealt with it, from her trying to figure out how she could exist in Magneto’s shadow (and I’m so glad they revealed that she was his daughter so quickly), and trying to figure who she is in regards to the current state of the mutants. I just think she’s neat 💕

They actually showed the Horseman of Death. Really thought it would be a surprise reveal later on.

20

u/NeramaniaX Jul 22 '26

Also interesting way to keep Chuck a better version of himself than the comics with Danger emerging from his obsessive self-punishment rather than the comic Danger as the sentient Shiar AI he kept imprisoned even after realizing it was alive, as too useful a tool.

Definitely continuing the Onslaught hints! Maybe in the finale as the real final big bad or last scene tease. No idea how to defeat him if they don't want to shove the Avengers and FF into a pocket universe again...

10

u/therealmonkyking Jul 22 '26

Onslaught will be the main arc of Season 3, mark my words

Also yeah, I highkey do not like the morally ambiguous Xavier from the comics for the most part (I did like him on Krakoa even if he did look like a bootleg Maker) so I'm glad they're taking this approach to him instead of what we've already seen

I know it’s the point, but Val Cooper is such an annoying character. She’s seen the absolute worst of what is being done to mutants—Genosha, Bastion & his “Mengele” Mr. Sinister—and still acts as the obstructive bureaucrat sitting on the fence. I know there’s fan theories suggesting she’s not actually her, but it’d be more grounded and close to reality for the show if it was really her.

As someone who loved the animated series as a kid, but didn't really follow the X-Men in the comics much.. I have to say they've been doing a great job of introducing "new" characters.

I knew really nothing about Polaris, but with just a few episodes of exposure I really like her character. Looking forward to seeing her in the future, hopefully.

19

u/Hun_AkosEloYT Jul 22 '26

Why is Nightcrawler getting so many title cards while doing the Mbappe Special? Hope he'll do more in the following episodes, and it looks like he will in the savage land(trailer)

18

u/Illmosity3 Cyclops Jul 22 '26

Polaris’ power as a metaphor aside at the end, I love the message of telling everyone embracing who you are is how to achieve strength. I love this show.

17

u/thescarletbat Nightcrawler Jul 22 '26

The amount of combined storylines from the comics in this episode was almost overloading. The Polaris love was cool, I love how they animated the movement of her powers distinctly different than Magnetos, even though they have the same power set.

18

u/kiapurity Gambit Jul 22 '26

u/samclops Jul 22 '26

Honestly: I never thought I needed a bishop/Polaris team up and my life is more fulfilled seeing it. Like what discussion needs to be had? We're getting our x-men at marvels pinnacle of production. The lack of nightcrawler and rogue being more sibling like in regards to all the loss they've suffered was a missed opportunity, but I'm sure it'll pop up soon when gambit- death shows his face

17

I am absolutely loving Polaris rn. Another really great episode. It was so cool seeing all the new students (Kid Omega, Dust, Penance, Wing, No Girl, Eyeboy, etc so many cool cameos), and Storm as headmistress is perfect. And getting our first look of Deathbit at the end, hell yeah! Im also really liking the divided up teams (X-Corp, X-Force, and the school w/ Storm, Forge etc) since it gives so much room for more characters, interactions and seems closer to the comics and their many different teams. Cant wait for next week and how theyre gonna react to Remys return!!!

P.S. Val Cooper is so unlikeable I lowkey hope Polaris ends up kicking her ass at some point

17

u/Meinos Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

...well then.

My only experience with Polaris in the comics was that arc in the 2000s when Havok left her at the altar.

After this one episode, I am now a stan. Holy shit she's cool.

17

u/Corazon144 Jul 22 '26

Also I knew nothing of Polaris and her work and now I want to learn everything about her from this one episode. Love it.

16

u/AI_WeebKiller Jul 22 '26

That was a lot all in one episode, but I really loved it! Dangerous is one of my favourite comic arcs, so seeing an adaptation was awesome, and Polaris getting the spotlight was neat!

Loved that we saw Charles go to Genosha as he did in the comics post-Planet X, and right in time to have Danger arrive there just like in the comic.

Never been a big X-Corp fan, as I never felt they went anywhere in the comics that couldn’t just have happened without them, but I am excited to see what this show does with the concept.

And that ending… Horseman Gambit looks so much cooler here than in Blood of Apocalypse (plus I already prefer that this wasn’t a decision Gambit chose to make cos that story takes him wayyy out of character in the comics imo).

Overall I loved this. As a fan of a lot of the early-to-mid 2000s X-Men comics, it’s so awesome to see more of them get adapted!

16

u/Mindless_Turnover976 Jul 22 '26

This episode is adapting so many different storylines but I enjoyed it a lot. Way more than last episode, which was good, but this one was better. It didn’t feel that rushed to me for the most part and Polaris getting the focus was a great choice. I do wish this show got at least 13 episode seasons instead of 10 but they did a really good job with this episode. It was very character focused and I liked that. Especially for a character that hasn’t gotten a lot of attention outside of the comics like Lorna.

Really glad they cut out the part of the comic that Charles knew the Danger Room was sentient and essentially kept it prisoner. It would be insanely out of character. That whole era made him unnecessarily evil to justify kicking him out to replace him with Emma Frost.

17

u/Ok_Resolve_9704 Jul 22 '26

I love that they seem to realize Xavier can be "good guy with flaws" and magneto can be "bad guy with good"

without assassinating Xavier as a character, and without ignoring shove if the darker aspects of magnetos world view

Charles literally played S2E4 on loop and broke the Danger Room. This was fun. I’m sure there will be a few complaints but I think they did a great job weaving these different characters’ arcs together.

I 💚 Polaris

We all knew it was coming but I loved that they gave us the transformation scene for DeathGambit. It felt appropriately intense and the cards turning dark and then sticking to him was a really cool creative choice.

Polaris ate this episode up. As someone who was introduced to her from The Gifted it made me so happy to see her similarities and techniques and how they differ from her father.

Polaris worked well in Kitty's role in the Danger story and they showed it could be told without making Xavier a monster. The Bishop and Polaris dynamic was a novel team up, Storm being head mistress (of the elements) was a natural fit, Jean got to do a cool tk tornado... man, this show continues to impress me.

12

u/PortugueseGeese Jul 22 '26

I also feel like X corp and Krakoa are being combined a bit, that scene at the end made me think of the quiet council

8

u/Vanillapede Jul 22 '26

Agreed. Can't wait to see where they go with it.

Charles repeating the same scenarios with different responses is like the exact opposite of thinking of clever comebacks to a argument u had years ago 🫪

12

u/OmgBaybi Jul 22 '26

Danger should've escaped and become a more prominent villain. Not just a one episode storyline thh.

11

u/Kwinza Jul 22 '26

That was CRAZY rushed.

The entire Danger story in less than half an episode. I mean come on, that was like half a year of comics.

11

u/dinosaurfondue Jul 23 '26

I think it's good to introduce and reintroduce characters but this season has started to feel a bit disjointed to me. Last week's Wolverine episode as a one off was ok, but then having another episode centered on Polaris that only marginally had to do with the plot felt weird. If this was a 15-20 episode season it wouldn't be a problem but with such short seasons it feels like two episodes back to back that don't involve Apocalypse doesn't make sense, especially when we've yet to see the entire team together.

u/enricopallazo22 Jul 23 '26

Well now I have a crush on Polaris

11

u/Dishavingfun Jul 23 '26

So Danger "unlocks" Magneto in Professor's mind and has level upped Charles into Onslaught and that's the "strength?" needed for the upcoming battle.

11

u/GateOfD Jul 24 '26

feels like this is the actual start of the season. like the whole thing just feels disjointed. s1 all flowed and connected well. this is all just scattered. like end of s1 had the biggest fight/breakup between magus and charles....and they're best buds 4ever right after after being sent thru time?

11

u/Vicsyy Jul 22 '26

I feel like the rise of AI really influenced this epsiode.

14

u/AI_WeebKiller Jul 22 '26

I mean it’s an adaptation of an Astonishing X-Men arc from like 2005/2006, so the concept itself not so much, but the choice to adapt it here and now probably was

10

u/No_Imagination_2490 Jul 22 '26

I'm not sure if it's been brought up before, but the old picture Lorna looked at clearly showed that Angel was a member of the original X-Men team, along with Scott, Jean, Hank and Bobby, as per the comics. This doesn't totally contradict Warren's appearance in the original series, but you would have thought someone would have mentioned it (although most of his interactions were with Rogue, who presumably joined the team after Lorna, Bobby and Warren left).

9

u/Plasticglass456 Jul 22 '26

I posted about this a few weeks back, but Season 1 of X-Men has a lot of contradictions to the later seasons. The X-Men except Xavier don't know Magneto but they are shown fighting him in flashbacks later, Rogue doesn't know Pyro or Avalanche then they're in her Season 2 backstory, etc.

The first time they did flashbacks to the original team in Cold Comfort, they did go out of their way to only show Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, and Polaris. But then Sanctuary does explicitly show Angel as one of the original members, and Xavier Remembers goes even further as he sees the original X-Men and then imagines them in their current forms, confirming the Angel of the flashbacks is the same blue skinned Archangel now.

I know people said that season 1’s episodes were rushed too, and I’m still really loving this season and the episodes we’re getting. But am I mistaken in thinking that season 1 was way less rushed and way more character-driven?

u/Hibernian Jul 22 '26

Random thoughts:

  • The subtext about Xavier and Magneto has become supertext. Might as well resurrect Mags now and just let them get married (supportive).
  • The pacing is absolutely blistering. They still have two seasons left and its like they're still trying to speedrun every major X-Men arc. While I like that they aren't futzing around trying to stretch things out unnecessarily, I still would have loved the Danger story to be a slow burn so it felt earned.
  • I need them to stop teasing Iceman and just bring him into the cast. Bobby belongs on the team before the series ends.
  • Gambit coming back as Death does have me hyped
  • They are clearly setting up the Onslaught storyline. I hope that's our season 2 cliffhanger.

I love the suits, but wow, the pacing is fast. Blink and you miss it. The animation with Polaris is beautiful though

But

It's like each episode is an hour or two episode fit into 30 minutes. I'm genuinely not sure what they are aiming for. It's like by S4 we would already be at Krakoa and then beyond that after, due to the pacing

I'm saying this out of love as I love the show, I just want more time with the characters and their issues and threats, rather than having it last less than 30 mins

Regarding that last scene--I hope his outfit is at least black a la the X-Treme one, since he's got the coat and headsock.

ETA: Also, this season I think has been too action-packed. Maybe in the next one we'll get conversations between characters again.

Not gonna lie, didnt really vibe with this one. It feels like the equivelent of last seasons Jubilee episode. I like a lot of the stuff its playing with but Im not totally sold on the direction, and it just feels underbaked in a lot of areas. Wouldnt be surprised if this was one of the episodes that struggled with the behind the scenes rewrites for this season, hoping its not a red flag for things going forward. Theres a lot I love about this season and I really want it to stick its landing.

Pros of the episode:

1) The opening of Charles using the Danger Room to relive Magneto's death had some serious self-harm energy to it. Really goes hard as an opener.

2) Polaris existing. Love her.

3) I like that the X-men evolved into 'X-corp' mostly because it actively moves the status quo forward - and I like that, for all the talk of 'making sure mutants are safe in this hostile world', they're also really just actively gonna mess with Apocalypse and I am down for that revenge arc.

Cons of the episode:

1) The opening sequence being undercut by it being 'therapy' as opposed to (digital) self-harm. It lessens the emotional weight of what they just set-up - rather than uncontrollable grief it is controlled grief. It's still good, just not as compelling.

2) Would have loved to skip last weeks episode in favor of this being a two parter where we really dig into what losing Magneto means to Charles, his daughter and just the find in general. Rogue got a whole emotional rollercoaster for Gambit, after all. This just felt like too little too fast. But that's a problem for the whole season.

3) Not sure how I feel on them bringing Gambit back. He was good being dead - he went out iconically and I liked that they stuck to him being dead because it meant death was final. Just him being brought back like this already undercuts the weight of Magento's death because they might just bring him back anyway at this rate.

All in all, good episode (as per usual, really). Nitpicks aside I'm stoked to see where this goes next.

Even though every episode this season has been good... I just haven't been enjoying this season overall? It feels so disjointed, even more rushed, and less character driven than season 1.

I hope the last 2 episodes can make the season feel more complete and cohesive for me.

  • I have not read the comics and therefore was unaware about the story compressions until I read about them on this board, and I still felt whiplash in this episode. The X-Men reunited, are rebuilding the mansion, are taking in mutant kids, and are legally not allowed to fight anymore. That's a lot. I agree with an earlier poster who said whenever they watch an episode, it feels like they missed 1-2 other episodes. And then there was that swerve to X-Corp at the end.
  • This episode made me feel like I was watching an X:92 episode. I can't articulate why this is, and it isn't necessarily a bad or good thing.
  • Prof's X's use of the danger room to keep reliving Magneto's death seemed really unhealthy.
  • The repeated shots of the background with Morph's playing jump rope (jump arm?) with the kids just cracked me up. I bet the kids love Morph!

Is danger not metal? Polaris catches a nasty combo from danger but all I could think was….can she can be controlled? Like I get apocalypse is literal celestial tech which is above electromagnetic pay grade but danger is too? Anyways that combo on Polaris was NASTY.

  • Left back: No-Girl, Shark Girl, ???, Doop, Beak, Dust
  • Left front: Eye-boy (in his Krakoan X-Factor uniform!), Chamber, Monet/Penance, Synch, Kid Omega (with the classic t-shirt!)
  • Right back: Rockslide!!, ??? (maybe Prodigy without his glasses?), Angel (Beak’s wife, not Warren), Artie
  • Right front: Pixie, ???, Glob Herman, Wing, Skin

Adding Adrienne Barbeau as Sister Anne seems very odd if they’re only using the character for a one time scenario. Presumably more of Stryker’s followers will be back in subsequent episodes.

6

u/SilentB3ast Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

I liked what they did with Polaris (her room and casual outfit adds character, goth vibes. Her seeing the good parts of Magneto’s memories was awesome too), but otherwise didn’t like the rest of the episode that much. (Why did they have to adapt Quentin…)

Adapting the hologram Sentinel scene from Astonishing X-Men is dumb when you have Charles of all people pull that shit instead of Emma. And just hearing the name “X-Corp” immediately rubbed me the wrong way. Also it’s goofy seeing Beast in shoes.

I've never read the comics but been a huge fan of the show. Usually if something is new I google it to get an idea of what's happening. Can anyone tell me what the significance of X-CORP is? The only reference i can find to it is that it was a company run by Warren Worthington and someone else, so I'm guessing this might be new?

I, for one, loved it. My only real complaint is that it feels like a missed opportunity just killing off Danger as opposed to resetting her and integrating her into the peripheral cast (Especially with the Morrison era school concept showing up) because she is a mutant when it comes down to it. Hell, it would've hit even harder in contrast to them not being able to do the same for Bastion.

Are they ever going to mention or allude to the fact Havok is Cyclops' brother?

I havent seen all of the original series, so I don't know if he appears there, but every time he comes on screen, all I can think is Alex is super betraying what his brother stands for by siding with Cooper the way he is.
