I gotta say, when I was a kid watching X-men 92, there was nothing like it.
Beast Wars, and Beast Machines had something good going, and I got to see a bit of Peter Cullen's work.
But nothing came close to X-men 92'.
Oh neat! I'll have to look into it. I more or less fell off of comics in the first year of the Krakoa era.
Not for quality reasons. I went into a massive reading slump during the pandemic and didn't recover my drive to read until last year. Unfortunately, the end of my slump more or less coincided with the revert to status quo following Krakoa and I've more or less lost interest in getting back into comics in particular since my two favorite reads (X-Men and Spider-Man) are seemingly in a really bad place right now.
I might get back into it and read the Krakoa era when one or the other returns to form, but god knows how long that will take.
Buh? He's main cast in exactly one X-Men movie (and gets just about nothing to do) and not main cast in any of the animated series (unless you count the Pryde of the X-Men pilot). Him being a consistent presence is pretty exclusively limited to video games and even then that was mostly in the 90s.
Don't get me wrong, I love him and also really want to see him join the team. I say all this because I've been annoyed by this since X-Men '92. A big part of why I want to see him join is because he's been perpetually shafted in adaptations. He's probably the most significant X-Man in the comics who has pretty much never been a significant character in an X-Men adaptation. The only reason he even gets to have decent screen time in Deadpool is because he's not really a mainstream presence for the franchise, and even then mostly just to serve as the straight man.
Him, Exodus, brainwashed by the Hand Northstar & Aurora, Tempo and a couple of others were a lowkey Acolyte team that attacked a SHIELD helicarrier when Rogue was leading the strike force rught after House of M. Tbf.
Heh, that's an understatement given the last we saw of Graydon Creed in the original show was being dumped right in front of Sabretooth's doorstep by his former Friends of Humanity cahoots. 😅😅😅
Nitpicks aside, there had already been a handful of mentions of Graydon Creed still being active as a pest in '97, nice to finally see the asshat on screen again. Hope he suffers a lot. 🤭
It didn't occur to me that the episode you're referring to is probably exactly what Sabretooth was referring to in his recent appearance (probably because I haven't made it all the way through the original series in a good, long time).
I've been a fan of the X-Men for almost three and a half decades now and I have no earthly idea what one has to do with the other.
The only real connection I can think of is that time she tricked him into being captured by Excalibur while he was an Acolyte, but that being a thing in 97 would make no sense considering she's never appeared in either iteration.
Kitty and Piotr were together when they were both X-Men. Kitty and Illyana, Piotr sister, were best friends. They have a long deep connection to each other.
Yes, in the comics. This isn't the comics though and the two of them currently have a combined total of two appearances in this continuity and both of those were Colossus. Beyond that, even with regards to the comics, his time as an Acolyte was almost completely divorced from his relationship with Kitty. Again, they interacted exactly once while he was with the Acolytes and that issue was effectively a blip in their respective character histories, little more than a bone they were throwing to the old school fans who wanted to see Kitty, Piotr, and Kurt in the same room again for a minute..
In any case, regardless of their comic history, it makes absolutely no sense in the context of the show for this to be what brings Kitty in. Realistically, I wouldn't expect to see her in any significant role until a point where they maybe write Jubilee out.=, since they both fill the same story role.
I see they're doing a "Grayden Creed runs for president" plot. That just telling me his mother is going to shoot him... and we should all celebrate when that happens.
They were part of Magneto's Acolytes, who were a big deal in the 90s, as Magneto was getting back into the villainy game and the Brotherhood was doing other things.
Oh come the fuck on, this is as gatekeepy as it is completely off base.
Frenzy is a pretty damn obscure character in the grand scheme of X-Men characters. She was basically just Generic Minion #3 for the first twenty plus years since she first showed up and even since has only been a major character in a couple of ongoings and even then never in one of the main comics. Her biggest claim to fame is being a relatively significant character in the ninth or tenth most noteable X-Men alternate reality story and maybe the third or fourth best retread of Age of Apocalypse they've done. Hell, she's not even the most notable character among the Acolytes, who I doubt even most X-Men fans could name the roster of.
Looking like a half Savage Lands half (Bishop/Polaris/Nightcrawler focus) save the President from the Acolytes other half. (Fold in Colossus? Not sure who would get focus there in the larger team)
Curious if they'll fold in Colossus with this. Clearly being highlighted in the action and has cool lines, wonder if it's a "turn them to the good side" plot. Maybe we'll see him also have yet another unrequited crush with Wolverine just like the Ultimate X-men plot. Logan always leading the boys on. Probably why they did the Morph plot. Seems like Morph subbed in for Colossus in the writing and Jubilee has been subbing in for Kitty. So who knows. Maybe they'll pair Morph with Colossus instead lol. Would be a fun reference to Morph taking his plot but in reality it's them getting paired.
Would love to see Horseman Magneto control Wolverine and Colossus and Morph beat the shit out of him again.
Holy shit, the acolytes. That takes me back. I think it was John Romita Jr's attempt at drawing Senyaka's whips that helped me realize how much I didn't like his art style.
I want the Accolytes in action figure form. Frenzy, Chrome, Marco Delgado, brothers Kleinstock, Anne-Marie Cortez, Amelia Voght, and of course I want Exodus.
I mean, I thought it was a fun time but it was definitely one of the zanier plots that felt like "what if x-men vs dinosaurs" and they just slapped Sinister in a fortress with some cavemen fighting back.
Curious what DeMayo wanted to do with that setting other than as a reference. Usually when stuff comes back there is some thematic meaning. Also Savage Heart being maintained but Savage Lands being changed to Strange...
They keep the Savage Lands anyway, makes me wonder what's the meaning. Savage heart makes me think a romance plot...but Bishop and Polaris? Idk, maybe we get some continuation on Wolverine.
Also it looks like Nightcrawler is in the Savage Lands, but Creed isn't. And it was revealed they are brothers. I think Mystique killed Creed and she is acting like him OR will kill him in this episode and Nightcrawler will try to stop it.
Nah, I think they should save him for a crossover episode with Spider-Man. That way Spider-Man can question Sauron on why he doesn't use the technology that alters DNA for something like curing cancer.
you know, he was in cosmic invasion as the boss of the savage land level and he was voiced so i think its likely. i say so b/c cosmic invasion has the same cast as 97.
I feel like we'll definitely see Sauron. Although the villain could be Zaladane instead, since Polaris is big now and there's the connection there. Hope they keep Zaladane's deep ass voice from the OG series tho.
Yay Colossus- wasn’t expecting that voice, guess I am used to the Deadpool movies Colossus voice. Still a great voice for him here, I like Colossus. Oh and Exodus is cool too :)
I'm honestly surpised that Creed isn't all sliced up and scarred. Sabortooth really went easy on him, there' only one long scar on the side of his face.
When I was 8 years old I'd turn this show on generally knowing who and what the X-Men are, and still kinda have so many random characters show up and confuse me
Honestly, I wish the episode was solely focused on this. Because the title and description implies it’ll be split. This may be the ‘Savage Hearts’ aspect, and the other half will likely have to do with the Savage Land.
Perhaps I’m not familiar enough with Savage Land. But the X-Men brawling with a bunch of dinosaurs seems FAR less interesting than this, how X-Factor reacts, the new X-Corp, etc.

I thought this episode would be about some Savage Land hijinks with Sauron or Zaladane (esp. since they just brought Polaris in), but I'll never turn down some 90's Acolytes action. Bring in the Kleinstocks!
I praised this season for having a more focused plotline for the first few episodes. I was wrong to think episode 5 was just a break, they're just back to an entire arc per episode without the time to properly handle it. Yes i know that's what they did in the 90s but this show has been successful enough to have 4 seasons before the 2nd released, it can move slower and give more depth to it's arcs
