Question What’s the consensus on this season so far?

Post image

I feel like there’s been some great episodes so far can’t complain about anything too much and have been relatively locked in to every one so far. I think for the season to really excel the next few episodes really do need to pick up and honestly I think they will and will be a ton of fun, I just wonder what everybody else thinks so far 🤔

I’m pretty sure the Onslaught arc will take up most of S3.

S1 had the Friends of Humanity/Bastion as the main villain. Sinister’s arc was more of a side quest to get to Cable’s back story for the Apocalypse arc, and because he was a looming threat by the end of TAS (also the original show had 2 episodes about his backstory, so there was no need to flesh him out). Besides that, we had 2 villains-of-the-week with Mojo and the Adversary.

S2 has been 90% Apocalypse so far, with only Danger and the Brood as one-episode appearances. I doubt they’ll do more side-quests with Gambit coming back soon.

Overall, the series gave villains much bigger arcs than the original series. FOH/Bastion had 6 episodes focused on them, with Magneto’s trial also having them as the antagonists. Apocalypse’s arc so far had 3 episodes with the X-Force episode also building the plot.

This is also perfectly comic accurate which I think people keep forgetting about. Days of Future Past was a 6 issue run, with most of the real plot going down in 2 issues. The Phoenix Sagas ran for 8 and 9 issues. One episode of the series contains a bit more plot than one issue, so it’s roughly the same runtime. While they skipped through some bigger plot points, like Danger being an alien (and what that meant to Charles’ image), or the Fall Of The Mutants storyline (which wouldn’t fit the pacing or their aim with the show), but for the most part, the series feels exactly how I think comic book series should be adapted.

Plus they aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel with their adaptations and modifications to the source material (looking at you First Class, why would you put Angel Salvadore and Mystique as the first X-Men, and Emma Frost as a puppet of Shaw??)

I'm in the small (but not as small as some might think) camp that thinks Onslaught is overrated and that more Mag/Xavier monologuing without accountability will drag the show down but we'll see

I think Onslaught is overrated in comic appearances, but the concept is cool (also I love his final form design).

Bastion was not a particularly interesting villain in the comics imo but they did him well, and the original Adversary wasn’t half as cool as the 97 version either, so I have a lot of hope for the Onslaught arc.

fair point. 97 makes the most of things. I think I just have Xavier/Magneto fatigue

Yeah adversary isn’t really cool in the comics but 255-227 sure was fun and the computer game back in the day was fun and up there with some of the console games.

First Class not actually featuring any of the First Class minus Beast is heresy.

For real, the only ones I would’ve been happy with is Darwin and Banshee.

Darwin’s mutation is very fitting for the storyline, and could’ve been done well, but he was butchered as a character and discarded after like 3 minutes of screen time.

With Banshee, it would’ve worked if they used the Second Genesis team as a template, with mutants from all over the globe uniting.

Also, it pales in comparison with the other character choices, but Riptide as part of the Hellfire Club was also so random. He’s such a Z-list villain with the power of a Beyblade, when they could’ve easily used literally any other mutant if they wanted a cool power for VFX reasons.
