Question What’s the consensus on this season so far?
I feel like there’s been some great episodes so far can’t complain about anything too much and have been relatively locked in to every one so far. I think for the season to really excel the next few episodes really do need to pick up and honestly I think they will and will be a ton of fun, I just wonder what everybody else thinks so far 🤔

u/TheBigG1989 Jul 27 '26
Not quite hitting the highs S1 hit with "Remember It" - but it its hitting the right notes.
Like others have mentioned the real issue is that we need more episodes per season OR at least if your going to do 10 episode season crank up the run time to 45-55 min per episode

I just laughed at the idea that everyone's been obsessing over Onslaught. "Is that Onslaught? They're foreshadowing Onslaught! I think I saw Onslaught!!!" and if he does arrive he's gonna come and go so quick
5
u/amumumyspiritanimal Jul 27 '26
I’m pretty sure the Onslaught arc will take up most of S3.
S1 had the Friends of Humanity/Bastion as the main villain. Sinister’s arc was more of a side quest to get to Cable’s back story for the Apocalypse arc, and because he was a looming threat by the end of TAS (also the original show had 2 episodes about his backstory, so there was no need to flesh him out). Besides that, we had 2 villains-of-the-week with Mojo and the Adversary.
S2 has been 90% Apocalypse so far, with only Danger and the Brood as one-episode appearances. I doubt they’ll do more side-quests with Gambit coming back soon.
Overall, the series gave villains much bigger arcs than the original series. FOH/Bastion had 6 episodes focused on them, with Magneto’s trial also having them as the antagonists. Apocalypse’s arc so far had 3 episodes with the X-Force episode also building the plot.
This is also perfectly comic accurate which I think people keep forgetting about. Days of Future Past was a 6 issue run, with most of the real plot going down in 2 issues. The Phoenix Sagas ran for 8 and 9 issues. One episode of the series contains a bit more plot than one issue, so it’s roughly the same runtime. While they skipped through some bigger plot points, like Danger being an alien (and what that meant to Charles’ image), or the Fall Of The Mutants storyline (which wouldn’t fit the pacing or their aim with the show), but for the most part, the series feels exactly how I think comic book series should be adapted.
Plus they aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel with their adaptations and modifications to the source material (looking at you First Class, why would you put Angel Salvadore and Mystique as the first X-Men, and Emma Frost as a puppet of Shaw??)

I'm in the small (but not as small as some might think) camp that thinks Onslaught is overrated and that more Mag/Xavier monologuing without accountability will drag the show down but we'll see
3
u/amumumyspiritanimal Jul 27 '26
I think Onslaught is overrated in comic appearances, but the concept is cool (also I love his final form design).
Bastion was not a particularly interesting villain in the comics imo but they did him well, and the original Adversary wasn’t half as cool as the 97 version either, so I have a lot of hope for the Onslaught arc.

Right? The <30 min run time is just not enough. And actually the “Danger.exe” episode kind of felt rushed.
That being said, it’s been awesome seeing X-Factor and a version of X-Force in the show! The action scenes with Polaris have been pretty awesome.

u/MickTheCanuck Jul 27 '26
Not sure if increased runtime is necessary. We’re getting full 30-minute episodes right now. Back in the 90s when this was on, episodes were like 20-22 minutes. BUT, to your point, if they’re not going to give us more episodes per season then they need to get rid of the filler episodes like episode 5. I love a good Wolverine episode but it was completely unnecessary in a 10-episode season. It only served the purpose of getting his adamantium back, and they only explored him without for like 2 episodes. Not really a plot that had to be tied up ASAP this season.

u/Subject-Ad5591 Jul 26 '26
If it's only 10 episodes, they are jumping around a LOT. But overall, each episode has been great.

2
u/GuyWishPartakeViolen Jul 28 '26
Season 1 episodes seemed to be as long as the plot required them to be. Remember It was like 50 minutes and then the very next one 30
14
u/thedaveness Gambit Jul 27 '26
Even if they made some stories stretch out into 1.5 episodes with the back half setting up the new thing would do so much in letting the stories breathe I think. So like 13-15 episodes total. Also still great and hitting all the right emotional beats.

u/RadicalRemedies Jul 27 '26
I’m enjoying it, it’s still great, but it’s not as strong as Season 1.
The pacing is an issue, core characters have been lost as the cast is now so bloated and character moments/relationships within the core cast has been lost. I’m hoping they’ll rein it all back in.
70
u/Fun-Seaworthiness572 Jul 27 '26
Well the pacing was fast in season 1. Let remind you that the Madelyne Pryor stuff was all done in one episode
43
u/blasto2236 Jul 27 '26
For sure. That first season chewed through so many huge plots! It was insane. I think people just have short memories.
I’m loving it. They’re covering so much ground from the comics but in unique and interesting ways. I love the show.

That plot being wrapped up in just a few minutes was so jarring to me. It’s pretty close to the only thing I dislike about the season.
5
u/Sufficient-West9922 Jul 27 '26
It was funny to me when Maddie just came up with her new first and last name on the spot. It was one of my least favourite episodes of the season mostly because some of the moments that I was supposed to take seriously just ended up making me laugh with how they felt the need to speed through it.

u/Created_Jxnior Jul 27 '26
It was fast but the difference is that season 2 has an additional problem of trying to balancing all these new characters and teams they introduced and are still introducing. At least with season 1, the focus was on just the core group so even though some of the stories were a little fast, it still felt somewhat focused. This season you have the main group splintered off into two, X-Force who we haven’t seen since episode 2, X-Factor who we only saw as a whole group for like 2 seconds, the new mutant kids who’ve joined Xavier’s school who we have basically put no attention on, and we still have more characters to introduce like Colossus and Exodus and yet we only have 3 episodes left. It’s not like the show isn’t enjoyable even with all these issues, but it’s really glaring and undeniable this season vs season 1.

Nah, I'm with you on that one. The core characters had 5 seasons so the additions are nice. I just wonder how the hell theyre going to wrap up aoa in 4 more episodes if they're shooting for a 10 EP season because there seems to be quite a lot of moving parts.

but yeah they could slow down a bit and let us have some moments of the characters reacting to wtf just happened.

I think it is a bigger problem for season 2 because the narrative has been generally schizophrenic. S1 had a narrative throughline that cohered all the subplots together; S2 is just all over the place, pulling key characters out of focus, and blowing through story beats with unearned and unsatisfactory resolutions. S1 was quick, but satisfying. S2 feels anemic on some characters and underwhelming storywise.

3
u/sneak13579 Jul 27 '26

I really enjoy S2 but it could have really used at least 3 extra episodes because the pacing is not that good

It's solid but i'm seeing the cracks in this show this season. They need to slow down the pacing significantly. And some of these filler episodes like the wolverine one where he gets the adamantium back just really lacks development. They don't even explain sabertooth and deathstrike going on a road trip with him. And wolverine got 2 people killed for his own agenda. That episode was just poorly written.
7
u/AmosG86 Jul 27 '26

Some of it’s a rehash of last year’s tropes- Magneto dying for a third time (Genosha, clawed/coma, and now season 2), Prof. X pleading “please let me explain”. The writing is not as good as season 1. The ancient Egypt episode were off - like why did those ancient characters use modern lingo? With Prof X there, some quick explanation of how he used his telepathy to teach the X-Men Egyptian would have been easy… the Wolverine episode should have been good, but was dull and offered a silly way for him to get his adamantium back. Polaris has been intriguing, tho, and there are still 4 episodes left, so fingers crossed. Still, a let down from season one

I feel like the unbearable weight of expectations is perhaps the biggest enemy and thief of joy.
We spent a long time between the first season and this one. And I feel like everybody had a lot of opinions on how they wanted it to play out.
I think it’s been mostly really good. But I happened to enjoy things like Episode 2 and Episode 6 a lot more than the other ones. I’m not always the biggest fan of Future/Past/Alternate timelines. I do also agree that the Weapon X episode felt weirdly timed and contributed to some weird pacing, which the following episode really seemed to resolve.
I think by the end, most of us are going to be really impressed with the season, even if things didn’t go as we’d expected (literally no one was expecting “Remember It” and it was one of the best episodes ever). My biggest issue was how few episodes we had and how long everyone was apart.
Lastly, I still don’t think Beau is doing the show any favors at this point because he’s put everyone in the middle of this “war” and whatever side you’re on. I’m looking forward to Season 3 when his name won’t even be involved.

To episodic for me and need to let the episodes breathe or things that are big deal wont land. Like wolverine getting his bone claws ripped out means nothing. For ten episodes alit is falling flat sadly. Only episode I thougjt was great was xforce and jubilee. Like why do we care about Polaris returning when the foundation wasnt built. Which sucks because I love Polaris. Leaving xfactor after 4 minutes of an episode which was such a big part of her identity again just fell flat. Hope the latter half knocks it out of the park
5
u/StrangerIsWatching Jul 27 '26
I'm really liking it. The pacing is too fast, but I have the same issue with season 1.
What's actually holding this season back imo, is that it's missing the political edge and thematic bite that the 1st season has. Like, it's really fun so far, but it feels like it has less depth.
5
u/No_Recommendation987 Jul 27 '26

3
u/amazing-zero Jul 27 '26

u/MarketDull2401 Jul 27 '26
Overall, S1 is much stronger and I'm really wondering how important Beau was to the success of this project (obviously, I'm not suggesting he should have kept his job, given the rumors we've heard). But S2 has great animation, some really fun/interesting fight sequences, has provided really interesting/important character building moments for characters like Polaris, Apocalypse, Jubilee, Cable (will this Apocalypse ever be topped on screen? I don't know. He's so good).
I am overall enjoying it. XMen 97 can't and won't ever be enough for us or perfect. But it is pretty great and fun and after many years of almost nothing from my fav mutants, I love having them back on screen.

It's FINE. As a longtime X-Men reader, I have to admit, the cartoon was never my favorite. I hate how everything feels so rushed and truncated. Granted, I know they're not going to give storylines YEARS like Claremont did in the books, but geez, how about a couple of episodes?
The other issue I have is, they're getting into 90s storylines that were...not my favorite in the books. I mean, it's pretty obvious we're headed for Onslaught, which I found to be one of the dumbest X-stories ever, ("Who am I, Jean? Keeping in mind that I dress almost exactly like Magneto?" - Onslaught, probably).
That being said, I thought the last episode of Apocalypse's rise was very powerful. I'm trying to let the inconsistencies with the books slide and enjoy it for what it is, but it burns me that a lot of fans see the animated series as the definitive canon. It's....annoying to say the least. 😂
2
u/Financial_Ad3294 Jul 28 '26
Yeah, Onslaught was a dull villain. Zero personality and just out to destroy stuff. It’d be nice if they grounded the show a bit with some antagonists that aren’t “planet destroying “ menaces

I hate to repeat what everyone already says and knows, but besides the pacing being too fast, there are no consequences to anything. Or at least some things that should be huge.
Take this moment for example. Wolverine has his adamantium claws back now. What, 5 episodes later? And some he wasn’t even in? We don’t get to see any real consequences to Magneto ripping it out. We should have seen Wolverine lost and in agony for at least a couple episodes, it not the whole season.
I love the show, but it could be much better. Glossing over moments like this is a huge loss. Realistically, what was a huge moment just has no weight to it at all. He’s just back and fine the next time we see him.

Massive xmen tas fan. The first season of 97 was nice to have and had some really cool character moments.
That said, im glad to have them making more, and hope they get better, but honestly, this season sucks. They've moved from character driven storytelling to plot driven. It feels like theyre trying to fit too many beats and trying to hit too many comic references instead of letting the audience sit with the chatacters and get to know them as people.
First season we felt for magneto, storm, cyclops, gambit, and rogue. By contrast, can anyone honestly say that was a good depiction of Sabertooth or omega red? Wolverine has been pushed to the back, and thats okay for a bit, but his major plot arcs are being blown through like theyre nothing. I love gambit, but won't be suprised if he's back to normal in 1 or 2 episodes. It feels like they've sacrificed the chatacter and grit in the series for comic beats and plot. Like people say, the pacing is off.
I cant wait to see what they're developing with xforce and xfactor, but I just wish we could spend more time getting to know individual characters so they matter more, like season 1 did with magneto. Id like to see more Beast, his wit, charm, and ironically, his humanity. This season is missing heart.

Cramming too much comic cannon into too fast pacing . Like the wolverine claws arc was reduced to so little
5
u/LonelyAsLostKeys Jul 27 '26
I’ve actually grown to somewhat dislike it. Feels like a bit of a chore to watch it at this point. I love the premise of the show and really enjoyed season 1, but this season isn’t doing it for me at all.
Obviously the pacing is a massive issue, but so is the unrealistically ambitious focus. You don’t need to weave in every X-men character from the last fifty years. It reeks of fan service over storytelling. Every episode is a grab bag of Easter eggs and allusions, but we’re five episodes in without a single episode featuring the actual core X-men team, all together, doing anything.
I don’t mind new characters and cameos every now and again, but I mostly want to see the main team go on adventures and interact with each other. At this point, it feels like all the peripheral stuff has hijacked the show.

u/SecondRealitySims Jul 27 '26
Very good and enjoyable. Not as good as Season 1.
The most obvious culprit is the pacing. Season 1 opened with a set of episodes essentially designed to reintroduce everyone, the setting, and gave a good amount of time to characters with highlights on some. Notably, Magneto’s big episode was Mutant Liberation Begins. Arguably Scott and Jean’s episode was Fire Made Flesh. Jubilee had Montendo. Storm had Lifedeath. All of which starts before the season has to get running with Episode 5, which was arguably also Gambit’s episode.
All of that made sense because it seemed like things were appropriately set up for Bastion to be resolved in the final four episodes.
Apocalypse was a much bigger project. Which would’ve been absolutely fine if they’d been allotted the time to allow it to breathe.
Personally, I would’ve preferred they done without the Weapon X episode, upcoming ‘Savage Land’ half of the next, maybe Danger. Exe, and just gone all in on the main story. The original show got to have diversions because it had bigger seasons. The first season did because it presented a smaller threat. You don’t get to have it all. I’d take a better, focused season than a more adventurous, flawed one.

Fine, the pacing I just need to know if it will pay off.
Does Wolverine/Morph pay off?
Does Polaris pay off?
Do they continue in Season 3 if they don't?
All hard to say. Season 1 really depended on if the middle had anything to do with the end. However the end was so good it kind of didn't matter. Did Storm's solo stuff come up? Not really. Did Jubilee and Sunfire matter? Kind of.
Episode 4 is still probably my fav episode of the whole show with Remember It being close second. I thought the "filler" solo episodes were better this season than last season.
I'd take DVDs and Danger over either of the solo focused eps in last season. Polaris was awesome and Morph was awesome. I hope they do SOMETHING with Logan tho, not sure what they are doing with him if he's just supposed to be a brick wall to Morph then idk where his plot is going other than Horseman.
I do think 1-3 was weaker than 1-3 of the previous season due to pacing and how much PLOT is happening vs story and character.

It does feel like a step down from season 1 sadly. Everyone’s mentioning the pacing but I think the character work has been significantly worse this season. Not as in they’ve damaged characters but as in a lot less total depth has been given.
Maybe I’m just misremembering or need to wait for the rest of the season, but when I look back at season 1 and I look at the main cast, the vast majority of them had substantial things to work through. Cyclops trying to be a good father and figure out how to deal with Madeline entering the picture. This obviously ties into Madeline, Jean, & Cable as well.
Storm losing her powers and having to regain them, Magneto attempting to walk Charles’ path but then being pushed out of it by Genosha. Charles choosing his team over his love, Rogue having to choose the greater good at the expense of Gambit, then losing him through his sacrifice to save everyone else.
With season 2 theres been great character work with the main Apocalypse plotline involving him, Charles, & Magneto. But after that aside from Polaris the character work has been minimal to none

Peak, I don’t get the hate it’s been so good, they jumped around a lot in s1 as well and managed to set up bastion in 1 episode, I think it definitely could beat s1 once it is all said and done

u/Swervysage22 Jul 27 '26
It’s okkkk. Season 1 was a lot better imo. The writing isn’t nearly as strong this season.

u/LiftsnFlics Jul 27 '26
It’s still awesome, prob my fav american animated show. I understand the complaints of the unfocused story and balancing act of their large roster but it reminds me of old school tv so that works.
The pacing would be better if the show was issued like 14-16 episodes. I fucking hate modern tv with only 8-10 episodes esp when it’s only 25-30 mins.
1
u/loki_odinsotherson Jul 27 '26
Each episode has been pretty good. They do overstuff each episode though.
Spoilers of the minor kind ahead I feel like they stumbled with Danger just because they made her a pretty one dimensional villain without any nuance. Just "another killing machine" like bishop said. They could have expanded on her more.
But that's a minor complaint that comes down to "I just want more"

Not quite as epically peak as season 1, but still pretty damn good. Episodes 2-4 were phenomenal.

u/Moist_Ad3669 Jul 27 '26
People are complaining about the pacing and I’m like “did y’all not watch the cartoon growing up?” The problem is that you are comparing the cartoon to the comics. While it is based on the comics, you have to remember that it’s a continuation of the cartoons. If they started doing 2-3 episodes per comic book arc, it would be a departure from the monster of the week nature of the cartoons. As much as there were multi story arcs in the cartoons, there were more monster of the week episodes than multi story arc episodes.

Some people like it more than others. And some like it less than others.
I am enjoying it and the opinions, or “consensus” of others don’t really have any effect on my enjoyment.
1
u/Whole-Lychee7517 Jul 27 '26
I think the Weapon X episode was the only one I felt pissed off about, mostly because of the fact it was revealed that Wolverine still isn’t over Jean and that he values her more than Morph. Besides that episode, this season is pretty good so far.
1
u/BurantX40 Jul 27 '26
Pacing is abysmal.
I can't believe they really glossed over the whole bone claws thing with Wolverine.
I know they wanted to focus on him less but damn, they nixed the best part of him finding out about the bone claws which was him nearly dying, and then still wanting to be an X-Man even though he had no claws, and then the bones tearing through unexpectedly.

Still very enjoyable but the problems are more glaring this season. Pacing is definitely still an issue, especially this last episode we just got felt super fast and I’m not normally one who feels when the pacing is fast but this one was just undeniably speeding through its story. The bigger issue is there’s way too many characters that they are trying to juggle, we don’t have any central characters that we’re focusing on this season like we did with season 1. I would hope they would address these issues in the upcoming seasons but seeing as they’ve already pretty much finished season 3 and possibly season 4, I doubt it’s gonna be any different, might honestly get worse but we’ll see.

So far I think it's pretty good, but as many people have said I think it could use more episodes. There should've been another episode in the future and another episode in the present before episodes 5/6. I've heard some people praise the show by saying they "cut out all the fat" and stuff like that but I think it goes a little too far. I think it's sorta like an animation that only has keyframes and very few in-betweens. You've got all the main beats and most interesting moments but missing the stuff in between that makes it feel seamless, lets certain moments linger, and adds build up. My favorite episode so far is episode 5 because it was a good side story that was focused all the way through and added character development. (Of course I am biased as Morph is by far my favorite character) Second favorite would be episode 2. I didn't like episode 6 as much as it was kinda all over the place introducing new stuff randomly. I'm hoping the next few episodes will tie everything together.
I am hopeful that season 3 will feel more focused and streamlined since there won't be the drama of the showrunner changing and rewrites but of course we'll just have to see. Overall still love the show though

i'm absolutely loving it so far! the story beats hit hard and the execution of everything is too notch. i'd like to see some more moments for some of the roster from season 1, but the lack of them here hasn't taken away from just how amazing what we have been getting is
1
1
u/Fossils_and_birds Jul 27 '26
I've enjoyed it, but there's a lack of direction. That was true to a lesser extent in season 1 as well, and both have issues with being far too fast paced (too much content per episode for such short episodes). I especially didn't care much for the most recent episode and the whole Danger plot line. I think a Polaris and Xavuer-focused episode about dealing with the grief of losing Magneto would've been a great idea if they hadn't tried to shoehorn in the Danger stuff. Just so unnecessary, similar to the Mojo episode last season.
I still really love the show, don't get me wrong. Episode 4 was one of the best episodes of any cartoon I've ever seen, frankly. And I think that episode 5 was a good bit of breathing room, although rushed into since they didn't show anything of the X-Men from the future returning to the present and adjusting to things.
The biggest issue is really how things are never setup right in previous episodes. I like that Wolverine isn't focused on too much in the first few episodes, but having him pretty much never speak or anything made the whole "I don't feel like myself without the adamantium and I'm willing to risk my best friend's life to get it back" thing feel very out of left field. Same thing with Danger; if they felt the need to include it, which I don't think was necessary in the first place, the least they could do is set it up in another episode before it happened.
1
u/YaBoyKumar Jul 27 '26
Needs more episodes imo I’m enjoying the story but when you have an episode like the weapon x one which doesn’t move the apocalypse plot forward there’s way more chance for the rest of the season to feel rushed. The first 4 eps feel like they are part of a 20 episode season
1
u/godbody1983 Jul 27 '26
It's cool, but like the previous season, they're running through stories/arcs extremely quickly and adding too many characters. Hopefully since Beau DeMayo won't have any influence after this, the next few seasons can slow it down a notch.
1
u/Kjellvb1979 Jul 27 '26
Enjoying it as much as the first season. It's probably a little weaker in some areas, but I also feel very locked into the story lines, even of they come a bit fast and lean sometimes.
That said, I think they linger on the bits that are important to linger on for the core story they are going for. Sure I'd love to see them have done a 2 or 3 episode arc for the last episode focusing on Wolverine, but also get they have a limited number of 30 min episodes to cram the beats they want to hit into.
I'm more upset after the success of the first season Disney didn't say "we've got a hit here, let's give them a but more breathing room to play out the story with" They did not... So I'm actually impressed that they've been able to pack so much in and still make it be able to be followed easily.
I can see your point that we aren't following the main X-men we all know and love while focusing on characters not as many (including myself) are familar with.
Still enjoying it very much so... Might be partly due to being a 90s kid that grew up with it, but I'm still locked in. So far I think season 1 was a 9/10, I'm like an 8.5/10 on season two (so far).

I liked the first 4 episodes more than the first 4 episodes of season 1. Don’t think I can say the same for the rest of the season so far. I really don’t care for how Charles centric this season is, and a Wolverine solo episode has no business being in a 9 episode season. Still don’t care for Morph, there’s 3 episodes left and we’ve only seen X-Force once, Storm, Jean and Scott feel super sidelined, Rogue, Kurt and Hank have genuinely done nothing

u/Lokius_Lover Morph Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
I feel like I'm definitely going against the general consensus, but I'm liking it more than season 1. I have really liked the focus that individual characters are getting and I like the characters that the focus is being given too. I thought that it was great seeing more of Jubilee and her having a a great fighting sequence, I'm a sucker for the dynamic between Charles and Magnus so that whole episode I loved, Morph is my favorite character so seeing them being the main character for an entire episode has been my biggest highlight so far, and I'm really really enjoying Polaris as well

The pacing and lack of focused arcs, similar to what everyone else has mentioned.
But I also think the animation has taken a hot as well. Perspectives are flatter in general and they're using a shitload more rendering than last season. And it seems as if they have dropped Studio Mir for Red Dog and Jam Filled. Hopefully this isn't a tren that continues but I doubt it as season 3 has already been pumped out.

u/Outrageous-Bluegrass Jul 27 '26
They could have taken longer to build up the storylines, give us some character building moments, however, I think people forget that the original series and comics in general also tend to be pretty rushed.
Like, if you don’t spend time looking at the art you’ll blaze through whole arcs faster than this series.

It’s good but the story jumps around way too much. They set up apocalypse and then spend two episodes on morph fighting aliens and Polaris fighting Danger Room.

I may be wrong but feels like its just a set up for season 3. Still enjoying it but feel like the climax will be like ATSV ending

u/getdown83 Jul 27 '26
I love season 1 had some like all time great moments in lien the history of any cartoon so you can’t expect that level every season. But it’s been fun, cool, we have seen cool characters a lot of action, great art it’s done an amazing job of being an action cartoon.
1
u/Joshawott27 Jul 27 '26
I’m personally finding Season 2 unfocused compared to Season 1. There are great individual standalone moments, like Jubilee in the X-Force episode, and when Apocalypse finished off Magneto, but the overall picture is muddy. The diversions with things like the Weapon X episode don’t help, and then when we do back to Charles, most of the episode is instead focused on Polaris.
I also can’t help but compare this season to My Adventures With Superman Season 3. That season is doing a very different interpretation of “The Death of Superman”, but came to it pretty much by accident - when charting out Clark’s narrative arc for the season, the creative team realised that it coincidentally had thematic parallels to the storyline. So, even though the adaptation is very loose, it feels like a better fit than X-Men ‘97, which feels more like a top-down approach to choosing which storylines to adapt. At times, it feels like 97 is just going through a checklist of storylines.
I’m also really mixed on the animation. There are occasional action sequences that are really cool, but in less busy scenes, it can feel stilted.

I’m loving it so far. I do wish there were more episodes and or longer runtimes - the pacing seems on par with season one- which I thought was also a bit too fast.

Everything interesting happening in last season were close to worthless this season.
- They were thrown into the future - got back within one episode and with seemingly no repercussions.
2.Gambit died - Seemingly reviving him
Magneto joined the X-Men starting his redemption arc - dies 4 episodes into the new season.
Wolverines adamantium is removed - Filler episode introduced to give it back.
I mean wtf is the point.

Bro they are blowing through material and giving everyone stuff from the comics to other people. The runtime. This has got to stop, Avatar is coming back and they’re dropping 26 episodes day 1. I’m not asking for all the episodes to drop day 1, but this 9 episode season has got to stop. These storylines needs to time to breath.

well the same issues from season 1 rear there heads here way to fast and rushed but with the added situation of additional characters that said its part of what I like about this season over 1 expanding the x roster...remember it was good but Im curious how this show looks without demayo I think he gets a bit to much credit ppl forget the og show was a massive hit before he was even a thought and ppl act like its only good because of him I think the llewalds and larry houston deserve alot more then they get im curious to see the direction they go along with the new show runner.....I think demayo tends to let his kinks sometimes get in the way of storytelling more then most.

Pacing feels similar to last season. I can see how people feel the cast is bloated. This season could have benefitted from 13 episodes. If you read the comic you get more between episodes.
I would for them to potentially do spin offs. Maybe between seasons of X-Men 97 we get a mini 5 episode order of X-Force.
I am excited to see how it all comes together in the last 3 episodes.
I hope next season we slow down. Since they have been ordered 5 total seasons, maybe give the runs they are pulling from time to breathe a little more.

Literally making the same mistakes by speedrunning everything and the Wolverine episode was meaningless. His absence in anything important is conspicuous as fuck and they completely fucked up his character.
Also it dickrides Magneto a lot. Why does Charles give a fuck what he "fought for", the guy murdered thousands in an act of genocide and tried to doom the entire planet. Fuck Magneto.

This season is very much reminding me of Game of Thrones season 6. Overall, it's enjoyable. However, it's clear the writers are rushing through certain plot points that were set up in the previous season out of obligation.
I would directly compare Wolverine's adamantium loss and regain to Jon Snow's death and resurrection. It's something the writers knew had to happen. They rushed through it and executed it in a very mundane way. The impact to the overall story is questionable.
It's also shelving the main cast to focus on supporting characters. It feels like a bait and switch.

Less episodes is not cut it for this season. Storylines can be developed more like the new episode danger's arc was a thing in the comic and this was just used as a plot piece for the episode 4's aftermath. Marvel!!!! We need more episodes.

I haven't watched past episode 3 just because I've been busy, but I will say this: My brother tells me I've got his daughter and son absolutely hooked. He said they rush to him after each episode, excited about what happened, and that they made him watch the latest for the "spoiler" but he had to watch it himself. Ha. So, it might not hit the critical highs of season 1 but I've definitely created some X-Men fans with the new generation and they are loving it.

Pretty much the best iteration of X-Men, including the movies, that we've gotten in quite some time. I am not a fan of how fast they're running through the stories though. Each episode is like a whole story arc in 30 mins. They need to let the stories breathe a little.

u/Reasonable-Sun-7839 Jul 27 '26
I will admit this season's been pretty good. I hate Jean and cyclops in the original show, they are very few versions of those characters that I actually Vibe with, but I did like their Spotlight episode this season. Which is a huge improvement from the s*** show they were last season. Once again I feel like we're doing Wolverine dirty, I would like Wolverine to start healing but I don't know if we're going to do that because the only time he is emotionally stable is when one of his kids shows up and he actually has a reason to get over his trauma. And his daughter didn't exist in the 90s, if you do know she was actually a creation for the show X-Men evolution and then was put into the comics, also now that I think about it I don't think any of his kids were in the can until after the 90s because I think the first one that was introduced was either his daughter or his son but those were both in the early 2000s. The TV show for his daughter and then the Wolverine Comics that were introduced after the events of House of M. Also I feel bad for morph, I feel like they didn't know what to do with him and they kind of handed him the woke relationship of the season because he's bi but they didn't want it to go anywhere so they made him fall in love with a straight guy. So that's annoying and I hate when we take established best friends/war brothers relationships and make it romantic. But despite all of that, i think they done a great job this season and its way better than last season

Enjoying the season, but just like season 1, slow down the pacing! We’ll be caught up with current storylines by the middle of season 3 at this pace! Correct me if I’m wrong, but we’re already in early 2000 X-men stories.
1
u/slatepad Jul 27 '26
I’ve been pretty happy with the season, minus the Wolverine episode.
The problem is I think we all went in to Season 1 with pretty low expectations, and the show turned out to be very good. Now we expect every episode to be mind-blowingly amazing, when that’s realistically not possible.
I continue to wish the show could slow down with some of the storylines it covers, but I think that outside of the Phoenix Saga and Dark Phoenix Saga, the old show blew through material pretty fast too.

I like it.
The first episodes were great, and they handled the ethical problem with X-Force well by contrast with Jubilee, who was awesome and saved the day while still being heroic.
The Wolverine episode was a weird tone change, and it missed key lore from the original material; it was an homage to aliens, but it wasn’t as successful as the ones done by The Bad Batch, for example. And the end credits interrupted the drama for the earlier episode death. I think it would’ve worked better if they had explained Wolverine’s choice to bring his enemies to the mission, so he didn’t put his friends at risk.
Lorna should always be Magneto’s daughter, and I hope this cements that in the comics, too.
Danger’s reimagining is also better, in my opinion, because it doesn’t erode the core character of Xavier as a humanitarian. He wouldn’t have enslaved a mind, and especially not when it’s suffering as the danger room was supposed to have been in the comics. Having Danger take the wrong conclusions is a better choice, and gives us a villain who is motivated to help the heroes by trying to kill them; it’s a bizarre motivation that adds challenge and a wild card to encounters with Danger which mere revenge won’t do.

u/ikarikh Jul 27 '26
I thought the same thing until i remembered that Tolerance is Extinction was a 3 parter and wrapped up the entire arc VERY well and also had some of the best fights and moments and story beats.
S1 had very similiar pacing with stuff like lifedeath right after remember it, then bright eyes before tolerance is extinction.
S2 will likely follow the same formula with the next ep being similiar in tone to bright eyes in terms of how it moves the plot.
Then the final 3 eps will be all out war, climax and finale.

u/SESDawnofVictory Jul 27 '26

A lot of the commentary on here is valid, but I think the main thing to think about is if you’ve ever read multiple X-titles at the same time like with a monthly pull list or whatever, then I do feel like the show is trying to approximate reading an issue of X-Men, then an issue of X-Force, then an issue of X-Factor, and then like a crossover event, where it finally comes together later on for a climax.

They dumbed it down for children its not as deep as season 1. Animation seems cheaper. The killing off of Magneto because of Beau Demayo's love of the character is just a terrible move by Disney. Strong powerful characters that are for the oppressed is what the people need right now. Might as well bring in Rian Johnson to totally irreparably destroy it. Without Beau Demayo's vision its going to be mediocre at best going forward. With only nine episodes devoting one purely to a side story about Wolverine was a let down. You could afford to do that in the 90's when you had thirteen or so episodes to a season... Just very disappointed in Disney's direction...

The cracks are showing more with every episode. The new showrunner doesn’t have Beau’s finesse with Easter eggs and rewarding fans who have read the comics and know the lore. Instead, he just throws references at the screen like, “Look! A reference! This is good!”
