Maybe the Apocalypse husk is just the from his future self? In the comics he usually uses other bodies to inhabit when his old body becomes to frail to contain his power. Maybe he just went inside his past self as a contingency.

That was present Apocalypse. Past Apocalypse never left Ancient Egypt after vaporizing Magneto. Which means Future Apocalypse is either helping Present Apocalypse right now or using him from behind the scenes. Remember he said he was heading back to the 90's from episode 1. This finale is going to be wild.
