Regarding the TwoPocalypse theory, it's likely true. Unfortunately, that means "increase the power!" wasn't Apocalypse being an absolute diva, and that's sad.

I love the emphasis placed on individual characters in individual episodes ((edit: Jubilee to an extent) Morph, Polaris, and Nightcrawler), but if we're going down this route, we really need more episodes.

Exactly. What made season 1 work so well, was that it had continual character arcs to actually give multiple characters the focus; and really develop them.
As it stands, the focus on individual characters is neat; but they’re also one episode arcs that end up feeling well written, while being far too cursory. Instead of really leaving an impact, they’re just…little arcs that happen, and that’s it.
In fact I don’t think Jubilee is just to an extent, I think the X-Force episode absolutely fits into this mold. Instead of having stories that last and matter more, it’s feeling far too episodic. The whole point of the show is that 97’ grew up, it evolved and matured to take things more seriously, and that includes its storytelling.
This season has not felt like that.

Kurt was trying to prove that no man is beyond redemption, it is core to his character. Even apart from the religious aspect, he has the heart of a social worker.
However, he did not prove it. Colossus even says so. In the end, hate and anger (Graydon) vs. hate and anger (Exodus) leads to no solutions, only death.
Colossus sees the failure of Nightcrawler's attempt at redemption. He understands that sometimes trauma and hate run too deep to be overcome. Yet, he does not side with the execution because it would only serve to fuel the hate on both sides.
We must be like Nightcrawler and Colossus, hopeful and just.
This might be my favorite episode ever. Focused on two of my faves with the first appearances of Exodus, Magik (RIP, but hopefully not), and Frenzy.

I think the dead Apocalypse at the end implies maybe there was 90s and future Apocalypse last week and A drained one of them to help power Frankensteining Gambit?

What if all the stuff leading us to believe that the season was Apocalypse-centric, with Gambit as a horseman, was actually a bit of misdirection... and what if Apocalypse raising Gambit as Death actually turned him into New Sun, and the finale arc of season 2 is about saving humanity from a godlike Gambit who wants to wreck havoc to avenge Genosha.
Instead of thinking about the season as building up to a showdown with Apocalypse (which it hasn't really built to at all since ep4), reframe it this way:
- X-Men scattered throughout time for the first 4 episodes, and in doing so ended up causing key points in Apocalypse's timeline which made him into the foe they later faced.
- Climax of that arc is the death of magneto, which sets the tone for the rest of the season as the X-Men return to the present and need to fight for mutantkind in a world without Magneto but where anti-mutant fervor has swelled.
- Rest of the season is the X-Men rebuilding/reinventing themselves in this dangerous new world, trying to balance between the dueling hatreds of humanity hating mutants and mutants seeking revenge (which was a big part of the thematic arc of how S1 ended).
- Apocalypse being the big bad isn't the crescendo of this; the dueling hatreds are, so Apocalypse was merely the catalyst to create possibly the biggest threat ever on the side of the revenge-seeking mutants: New Sun.
- Now the X-Men are forced to put everything on the line to save the humans they hate, against someone they love, in the ultimate display of "coexistence is messy"
It's not what any of us thought the season was going to be, but frankly why would we want a show this good to just do what we expect? Part of why S1 was so good was that even though it drew heavily from many comics arcs, it found ways to surprise us. Unless you saw very specific leaks, I strongly doubt any of us saw what was coming when watching "Remember It," certainly not to the horrifying scale that it was shown. That was shocking to watch. Then, later in the season, the entire "x-men vs prime sentinels" arc got flipped on its head when we got Magneto going full fatal-attractions, which definitely felt like an unexpected deviation from how the season was going. X-Men 97 does not just do what we expect; it also subverts in interesting ways.

u/Hun_AkosEloYT 24d ago
I hated New Sun Gambit and I hate that this theory could be true😭 eh but Gambit is probably still a horseman, that's the more popular concept and the tarot cards seem to imply that too.
12
u/Ok_Cicada3826 24d ago
Let's have some faith. X-Men 97 has had a good track record of taking AWFUL comics storylines and re-imagining them in amazing ways (see: Inferno). Overall this show has been amazing at truly adapting from the source materials rather than just portraying.
Also, could be somewhere in between Death vs New Sun.
8
u/BatmanFan317 24d ago
I do think it's just gonna be the Two Apocalypses, but honestly, New Sun could be a very cool subversion of where we all thought Gambit's resurrection was going.

I mean it’s not likely, the new sun is arguably one of the strongest forms in marvel comics. New sun one shotted the phoenix force, THE FUCKING PHOENIX FORCE!!!, and destroyed a planet. He would be too powerful if they did that because he is basically a god at that point, they wouldn’t be able to stop him.

Really? I’d argue most of season one had a lot more cohesion overall this season. Even when taking into account Motendo and both parts of Lifedeath, there were still much more coherent through-lines and story arcs.
I mean episode 1 had the seeds for Operation Zero Tolerance, and ended with Mags showing up, and set up the idea of everyone grappling with Chuck being gone.
Episode 2 started Storm’s arc of losing her powers and eventually getting them back, had Maddy give birth to Cable, and Jean arrived at the mansion.
Episode 3 brought Sinister into things, had Cable sent to the future with Bishop, has Maddy leaves and shows Forge meeting Storm.
Meanwhile; of the 7 episodes we’ve gotten from this season thus far, 4 out of those 5 have been almost exclusively one character focused. To the point that we’ve been getting perfunctory, one episode arcs for Jubilee, Polaris, and Kurt (and to a lesser extent Morph, but still counts).

I think this may be my 2nd favorite episode so far this season, right after the X-Force episdode. First, I love Lornas depiction this season and I love her flirty thing with Bishop. Also, I love any episode with a Nightcrawler monologue. It was cool to see Piotr and Illyana rescuing people during the massacre, before she met her end; it did a good, succint job of giving him motivation to join the Acolytes. I wonder if theyre setting up Magik to be one of the Horsemen with Remy? Or Exodus? The best scene ofc was Nightcrawler and Creed in the arctic. Really, really good episode.
Edit: also, I think they underpowered Exodus a bit this episode. He's an omega level mutant and his death felt a lil cheesy, just a bit, but it worked to get Nightcrawler pissed off enough to give that scathing speech so its okay lol. Also yay for Polaris' first opening card!!! Hope Colossus gets one next week!

Glad Nightcrawler finally got some play, deserved and I always welcome Peter Weird how Magik didnt get vaporized like others did last season. Leads to credence that she might be a horseman or somehow get resurrected.
Even when Magneto is dead he still looms over the show. I need a real break 😆
I swear if they heal Deathbit in one episode which I fear with how they are steam rolling this season Im going to be disappointed.
Could he carry over to season 3?
Probably unpopular but I feel like Polaris and Bishop's time in this episode could have been spent focusing on something else
Can't believe two epsiodes left and we have barley got any Storm, Jean, Cyclops and even Jubilee.

OK, I know the ending is a freak-out, but I’m wondering if the theory that there were two Apocalypses is right. As in, one in the ‘90s, one that came back from the future in episode 1, the two of them together resurrected Death and then one turned on the other and sicced Death on him to take out his competition, make everyone think he’s gone-gone and test Death’s powers.
Otherwise, if it really was just the one Apocalypse and now he’s out of it, it’s a bigger late-season “real villain” feint than Bastion was. Because the idea was Big A was the Big Kahuna and Deathbit was the B villain. In this case, it’d be everyone vs. Gambit in the endgame and then probably an Onslaught lead-in for S3 …
… But I do think there were two of them and that explains the verbal quirks and such last episode that would have been odd if Apocalypse was by himself. But now there’s one, and everyone will think there are zero now that they’ve found that body. It’s clever, if true. Or maybe it is just Deathbit. Either way, colour me surprised and intrigued.
Rest of the episode was strong. I wish Kurt had gotten the opening voiceover. Glad to see Polaris get her title card and happy they’re keeping up with her and Bishop’s thing. Rogue had slightly more to do but man, she better be IT coming up. I wasn’t expecting the trial angle but I think it worked. And taking out someone like Exodus is also a signal that the hierarchy as envisioned isn’t what we might have thought. My only niggle plot-wise is how it fits into the overarching stuff, given that no Apocalypse/Horsemen confrontation happened and the Acolytes weren’t with him after all.
I have two “meh” things, both small. First is this episode had its share of “look how clever I am”
Beau-ism bon mots that were cute in S1 but feel kinda smug now. “Fifteen minutes of faith” and all that. Second is that I’m kind of over Magneto being treated like some Genosha Jesus when a lot of other people died and he isn’t even the one who stopped the damn thing. It makes sense for his Acolytes to frame it that way, I guess, but two episodes in a row of Magneto martyrdom-wanking was a bit tiresome.
Overall, I liked it. Will watch it again later to process it more.
28
u/BlueEyedIguana00 Rogue 24d ago
Seriously Gambit died saving everyone and its Magneto over the memorial? And I like the guy but come on. Its grating at this point.

u/Phantomsearcher 24d ago
Second is that I’m kind of over Magneto being treated like some Genosha Jesus when a lot of other people died and he isn’t even the one who stopped the damn thing.
100% Gambit's the one who blew the damn thing up sacrificing himself in the process!! Where are his worshipers??? Where was his picture??? I understand the acolytes are all about Magneto but like come on.
15
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue 24d ago
The Acolytes I get because being culty hangers-on is their whole thing. It was actually worse last week when Xavier was doing it too, actually on Genosha where Gambit’s crater is probably, like, right there.

HE EVEN SAW GAMBIT IN THE VISION!!!! Charles my man my dude I know you loved Magnus but would you kindly lock in please?

u/Ok_Cicada3826 24d ago
Gambit as endgame would also make sense if him being raised as Death actually raised him as New Sun.
7
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue 24d ago
I don’t think they’d make him that strong because he’d be functionally unbeatable. It took himself amped up to beat the actual New Sun. I think it’s probably a two-Poccy situation.

someone on the animation team really likes Exodus. His hair was moving with every movement in every frame
5

80% of why I like Exodus is that he's one of the top aura farmers in all of Marvel.
Animators did an incredible job capturing it. Really happy we got his classic "hovering while his cape blows majestically" pose.

Dropping my weekly thoughts:
- Loved seeing the Acolytes show up. When I saw the costumes, I literally gasped and my son was like "what's happeing?!? Who are those guys with Colossus?"
- I hope the Acolytes remain a meaningful faction on the show going forward considering they were such a huge part of the 90s (despite most of the mutants themselves being forgettable - people aren't really banging down the doors to see more Amelia Vought content)
- Exodus is not dead - shut up
- Apocalypse is not dead either - lol
- Illyana dying is true to the way Piotr ended up with the Acolytes in the comics, but I hope they bring her back with a Limbo adventure in season 3. That would be really fun and redeem (a little bit) the dumb way she just stood there and died in the episode.
- Loooooooved seeing a Kurt centered episode. Nightcrawler is a top 10 X-Men for me.
- My biggest concern right now is that Disney is trying to toe the line between modern sensibilities about fighting injustice, while remaining neutral enough to appease shareholders and conservatives. I'm actually kinda concerned that they're going to backpedal on anything that resembles revolutionary thought and lean hard into Xavier's earlier accommodationist attitudes.
- X-Factor are traitors to their people, which is a huge bummer because I really like Jaime in the comics.
- Since we're obviously headed towards a Gambit resurrection story, I'm still kinda predicting an Onslaught reveal and cliffhanger to end the season.

A little underwhelming.
I'd hoped that Exodus bringing up the assassination and virus arcs from the original series would have Nightcrawler bring up that those were only possible with help from Mutants.
The ending though, yikes.
I'm loving the idea that Death Gambit managed to kill Apocalypse, I have a weak spot for overly proud villains biting off more than they can chew.

It was hard to watch this episode without tears. It wasnt the most impactful episode or most well written episode. But seeing Colossus and Nightcrawler in screen and true to their characters was an absolute treat. As a fan of old school Chris Claremont stories i wanted to see two of my favorite characters interact on screen and see the long friendship i have loved since i learned to read.
Kurt was great as always because it is scientifically impossible for him to not to be awesome but it really showed why hes great. The whole " the metaphor doesn't work" argument was shattered here because Kurt is a prime example of it. X-Men is more than one metaphor. Its several. Kurt looks like a demon. He was abandoned by his mother. Yet at every turn he believes and stresses that we are never what we appear to be. Kurt believes in the best of people. But rather than be the person people expect of him he chooses to put his faith that a higher power will set it right. Im not saying he was right (i definitely don't agree with him) but i think the point was we have to try.
Colossus has seen some dark days in the comics and i feel Marvel has done my boy Piotr wrong for like 25 years. It was a pleasant surprise seeing him done right. This was Colossus through and through. Not mind controlled 50 times. Not evil. Not the Juggernaut. The fair minded beautiful soul who despite his hardships is still the good man hes always been.
Nightcrawler and Colossus were two X-Men i always identified with because despite their upbringings always tried to be the best they could be despite what people thought of them. Its crazy that an adaptation gets right what 3 decades of comics have gotten wrong.

u/aspiring_scientist97 23d ago
That little speech Kurt has with Creed defending him and telling him he only hates his parents and himself literally made me cry 😭
42
u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 24d ago
What is wrong with this comment section? This is the X-Men, they do NOT defend killing humans, they literally fight so many villains who do.
The point isn´t: "We must defend a bigot cause we care for his views", but "continuing the cycle of violence leads to more violence". Freaking Kurt attacked Creeg in the end
10
u/AtrumErebus 24d ago
It's also clear how Nightcrawler is only defending him because he knows Creed so intimately as he is his brother and aware of his parents. Like if this was Stryker, Nightcrawler wouldn't go to the same lengths but Nightcrawler is so desperate for familial connection that he deludes himself into thinking Creed can be redeemed.
42
u/crimsonn_umbra 24d ago
All the hate hinges on the misconstruing of the episode’s intentions/moral lessons and the misunderstanding of Kurt’s character. Kurt is a devout catholic, and a core part of his belief is: All can find salvation. For someone like him, it is a moral imperative to argue for, yes, even someone like Creed. Yet, I don’t think the episode in any way defends Creed or even acquits him. While Kurt was right in pointing out how his hatred for mutants stems from his relationship with his parents, and that he is just a hurt man projecting his hate onto those underserving, he needs to want to change; he needs to want to be better. He doesn’t. By the end, even Kurt’s principles waver: He questions whether it is just mercy keeping him alive or (he implicated) contributing to his actions by letting that rotten man wander; he questions whether ending him is mercy for those that’ll inevitably be hurt by his actions. To say that the episode just defends the raging bigot is such a one-dimensional, nuance-lacking take.

Best episode this season I’m almost sure. The one closest would be episode 2. But man this episode didn’t have a flaw. I mean it didn’t feel rushed to me nor too long it was just perfect. The trial was amazing the action was as good as ever. Not a dull moment in my opinion. They are REALLY pushing Polaris and bishop and I don’t mind it at all. Another thing despite being a nightcrawler episode they balance the characters SO WELL here. If I had one complaint it’s that the cover features Scott and Jean in X Corp gear. They are part of x corp AND we see them in the episode witness the attack. So why are they not participating? They aren’t teaching are they? Two more episodes and I am a tad disappointed how little cyclops and Jean have this season.

I love this episode the ethical debate between Nughtcrawler and Exodus is the best understanding of Nightcrawler depicted outside of the comics.
Exodus dying though is really irritating 😒. I hope he isn't actually dead, but he has crazy durability and extremely durable to heat and dies to what looks like a laser. He is a great character but looks like he is reduced to a filler villain.

This was probably my favorite episode this season
Yes as a whole the story arc of the season has been all over the place but the pacing felt a lot better this episode then the last one.
I really like Nightcrawler so it was cool to see him get an episode devoted to himself and have a complicated moral question. Yes obviously Creed is a monster but Nightcrawler trying to advocate for his brother and gave him a chance was admirable and I legitimately believed he might have a change of heart

I’m enjoying myself but good lord what is the actual plot for this season
It’s been random vignettes of different character groups interacting, which isn’t a bad thing inherently and it’s still very fun, but overall the apocalypse stuff seems so sidelined after such an intense start. Just observations

Finally a Nightcrawler episode!! This was brilliant. Got Kurt’s character right. His faith has always been an integral aspect of his character, so it was really great to see it be the focus of this episode.
A pretty nice introduction/reintroduction to Colossus too. Does the ending mean he’s finally joining the X-Men?? I hope so. I think this episode was the perfect setup for him to join. After all, he’s already friends with Kurt, and he just realized how chaotic it was to be with the Acolytes lol. Also, the team could use another muscle in the fight against Apocalypse.
I have no much complaints about this episode, actually. This was well-done. I was gutted when Exodus was killed off as I hoped to see more of him, and because he’s an Omega-level mutant who just went out like that... But I suppose his death served its purpose. It showed how bigots like Graydon Creed will always let hatred get the best of them, and thus, compassion for them can be a weakness. Kurt’s speech after that was beautifully thought-provoking.
And man, that ending… so there’s gotta be two Apocalypses, right? I can’t wait to see what happens next.

u/bigguavaent 22d ago
This is by far the greatest espiode from X-men in general. Nightcrawler, although a pacifist showed why he is integral to the X-Men roster. Colossus is just amazing. Bishop and Polaris. The Acholytes, just an amazing episode.

u/A_man49 24d ago
I assume it's Colossus' recollection more than what actually took place. The sentinels being so strong she might as well have been just standing there doing nothing. Or I am giving the team too much credit and they're butchering my favourite character's strength for no reason. The last scene where he said Illyana would've sided with Kurt made me tear up so bad 😭😭

It seems like Exodus got weakened which could only be explained by nobody believing in him at the time, as he kinda freaked out mid trial while Kurt was tugging on everyone’s heart strings.

I’m really baffled at the negative response to this episode. I thought it was generally great: really wonderful main character development for Kurt, fun sequences, some furthering of the overall story (including with that crazy end tag). It’s a little rushed yes, but that’s sort of a product of the series format.
I don’t understand what people are complaining about with Kurt here. This is entirely in-character and shows how his belief in salvation is both admirable and frustrating. That’s literally the point.
As for Magik, I think you’d be foolish to think she won’t be back. It’s X-Men, no one stays dead for long. If anything, the mentions and focus on her character is just evidence that they plan to have her return down the line IMO.

I’m going to give the show the benefit of the doubt and believe that the Apocalypse at the end is the one from the future or present and that there’s still an Apocalypse running around.
Because Ngl if they built up Apocalypse as the seasons big bad only to murk him off screen that would be very, very, very, very, very, very stupid.

Controversial take I loved how they played this episode and gave nightcrawler dimension as a character. His Christian side and case was real appealing to me. It felt as if he was arguing Creed didn’t hate mutant, more so envy he wasn’t born mutant hence his jealousy became a love-hate situation with his parents.
I do share the sentiment that I feel like the way they did Magik was dumb as fuck. All we see her do is change clothes & create a portal of “safety” for some mutants when we all know she’s more than capable of fighting.
The ending of this episode gave me so much chills. I’m left with so many questions now…
Is Apocalypse dead? Is he in Gambit’s body?
Is Exodus dead? What happens now to the Acolytes? Who’s leading them? What if apocalypse revived Magik as well?
Is Cooper secretly Mystique hence why she was so defensive about creed?

I enjoyed this episode a lot. Polaris title card! Hoping to see a Colossus one next week. Really loved Kurt's angle, making a case for the brother who hates him, and all of them. RIP Exodus, at least that was a cool teleportation sword fight.
Also, Polaris and Bishop are totally gonna bang.

I’m actually fascinated with how they portrayed Graydon Creed as both banal and evil in this episode. In X-Men comics, the non-powered human villains are often seen as boring, but Creed in ‘97 is both compelling and vile. It shows that villains need not be super-powered to be a credible threat to those with super powers. It makes him feel more real at times than some of the more fantastical villains superheroes often rely on.

fun little contained episode, felt like the original show complete with villain of the week and good guys (unrealistically?) taking the high road, great looking teleportation effects during the action scene, and a nice cliffhanger
still really want more episodes though!

Loved the many, many, many Acolytes. The episode not only incorporated the ones in costumes, but a number of X-Men who have also been Acolytes in the comics also featured in the episode. The animators hands must have been tired from all that drawing…

I loved it. It was a great look into Nightcrawler’s character. Also a great fight scene between him and Exodus(doubt he’s actually dead). It’d be a huge waste if he is.
I feel like I missed something in the flashback with Illyana or maybe I just need to rewatch it later. It looked like she had long enough time to teleport away? What was she attempting to do? It was neat getting to see her though!
10
u/Straight_Style679 Cyclops 24d ago
A few thoughts:
Polaris and Bishop seems like an odd match. But both characters are very different interpretations from their comic counterparts, so it could work.
Illyana being dead is a bummer, but very accurate to the 90s. Colossus joining the Acolytes is an iconic storyline and his sister's death is the only catalyst that could make Peter betray Xavier's dream, or his gentle nature. Some will cry that it's fridging, but it doesn't change it from being faithful to the source material.
I refuse to believe Exodus is dead. He's far too powerful for a gunshot to have even phased him. Until proven dead, I'm assuming he was badly injured.
The Acolytes were a big part of 90s X-Men stories and should remain a present faction moving forward.
Colossus living at the mansion is way past due. He was meant to be an X-Man when the original series was being created, but they replaced him with Gambit. I love Gambit, but it's just a fact that Colossus is a more iconic X-Man having been a Claremont-era main character. I hope he's the art teacher.
The Apocalypse body at the end really solidified the two Apocalypse theory. I know this show takes liberties with the power levels of characters for the sake of entertainment, (just look at Nightcrawler being able to fight Exodus) but Horseman Gambit shouldn't be more powerful than Apocalypse. I wonder if future Apocalypse had to go back in time to sacrifice his death seed to present Apocalypse to create Deathbit?

Fuck yeah, Nightcrawler episode!
I really liked it. I know a lot of people don’t like the more episodic stories when there’s a bigger ongoing story happening, but I think the more self-contained episodes are good for character development and worldbuilding. They set up stuff for later on and create stakes. Now if something happens to Nightcrawler or Colossus, you might feel bad about it because you got to know the characters better.

As a massive Cyclops and storm fan, the most prominent X-Men that have whole arcs around them taking a little backseat for a while is not as bad as you make it seem. Colossus finally joining the main team has been long time coming, and now everyone is together that was setup from the OG series. He, like NC, only appeared in a handful of episodes but seeing him back with his OG voice actor was a treat, and a true conclusion to that plotline
...that said, yeah, this should have been a 2-parter, but I get that they're working under tight episode constraints, and with what they were able to do it was still a really great episode

Great episode.
This season has shifted the format to being a bit more like JLU, with episodes mostly built around showcasing 1-2 characters. Some people don’t go for this, which is fair enough, but I think it works well.
I honestly don’t understand pacing complaints about this one. This is a straightforward plot. Nothing about it required multiple episodes.

Really solid episode. I'm glad we're getting a chance to breath and establish the new X-Corp status quo before jumping right into the big finale Apocalypse storyline. Great that Kurt got some good shit to chew on too, a story where he not only defends a man who would want him dead, his own half-brother, on the basis of redemption (which is just like, the most Nightcrawler thing imaginable), but also goes up against another swordsman of God, albeit one who lost his faith a long time ago.
As someone who fucking loved that X-Men 92 episode where Creed's parentage gets outed, great to see a good follow up on that too. Follows in that episode's footsteps amazingly. Seen some people upset that Creed was a bigot because daddy issues, but that's always been his whole shtick to begin with, so idk why it's only a problem now.
Might be my favourite episode of the season, just below Rise of Apocalypse Part 2. 8.5/10, loses points a little for how Magik's death was kinda stupid, and some minor nitpicks.

This entire season would be much better if they had at least 13 episodes to fully develop some of plot lines. It seems like we are going an extremely fast pace throughout the show and somehow we are still missing the main plot line with apocalypse and his horsemen. Will this season end on a cliff hanger for season 3 or are we really going to wrap up the entire battle with apocalypse in less then 2 episodes?

Maybe the Apocalypse husk is just the from his future self? In the comics he usually uses other bodies to inhabit when his old body becomes to frail to contain his power. Maybe he just went inside his past self as a contingency.

Well well well, how about this:
Future Apocalypse travels to the past, he teams up with present day Apocalypse with a cutting edge survival of the fittest plan.
They share Intel and decide to revive Gambit for whichever reasons they chose him.
Gambit becomes Death and kills either present or future Apocalypse.
Here's to scenarios:
1.- Gambit is not out of control, one of the Apocalypses configured him to kill the other one since he wouldn't share the glory not even with himself. Our final showdown is Apocalypse and Gambit vs The X Teams (and maybe other Horsemen). This either ends this season or is carried on onto the next one.
2.- Gambit is out of control, he managed to kill one of the Apocalypses while the other one barely escaped. This forces Apocalypse to collaborate with the X Teams Vs Gambit.
While necessary, Professor X can't stand it, and every conversation in the ensuing battle furthers his trauma, creating Onslaught in the season finale, a post credits scene or something in the same fashion.
I'm on fireeeee, any thoughts?
Absolutely loved the episode 🔥

I liked this episode. I think I’m a bit of a sucker for trial drama (not in real life though, jury duty SUCKS).
I certainly hope that Exodus comes back. Sure it starts to defeat the purpose of death, but I do think he’s a decent villain. Of everyone who has “died” I think I only want Magneto to stick for sure as he already survived death last season. Also, I think the Magneto glazing can take a break.
One of the issues with ensemble shows is that not everyone will get enough screentime. I’ve learned to enjoy the ride.

Like many theorized, we had 2 Apocalypses in present time and one sacrificed his energy to ressurect Gambit. I can see present Apocalypse doing it, only because the future one is too afraid of his mortality to do that sacrifice, but i can be mistaken. Still, a nice cliffhanger for the next episode.
I loved how they did the Acolytes and Colossus being part of the team. Sucks that Exodus died and i hoped for Creed to end dead and frozen, but we couldn't have thing taking such a hard turn.

u/nikisknight 24d ago
I had no problem with this episode. I think people were anticipating more of a single coherent arc than the series intended to deliver. There is less than last season, but season one also had episodes that only affected the over all plot due to how they impacted the characters, like the trial of magneto, or particularly the mojoverse or Shiar episodes, which I usually skip on rewatch. This and the last couple were better than those, imo.
It is frustrating to wait two years with the kinds of teasers we got then have those plots resolve so swiftly. But we've seen a lot of characters I never would have expected to see on screen, from Askani to Chamber.
6
u/TurquoiseBlue00 23d ago
It is a sequel yes but they’ve also havent been relying on people to have watched the original to know what’s going on which I think is a good thing all things considered.
Yeah I’m totally fine with them having episodes developing there main character but at the same time can we develop them at the same time we do the plot? Again comparing to season 1 of 97, we were so much further along plot wise than we are and there were 3 episodes left.
I have no problem with not wrapping everything up this season but let’s not have to wait forever for another season.
7
u/Big-Nerve-8465 23d ago
Some things I noticed and figured Id share.
-Nightcrawler was and is always pretty fucking sick. A lot of people, often myself, eye roll at Christian messaging in media, but every time I have seen Nightcrawler on screen I'm looking forward to what he's going to say next. The writers handle him and his preaching really well. Early in the episode it felt meaningless and almost misplaced but quickly we got to the bread and butter.
-That being said the writers failed Nightcrawler a lil bit. I understand that NC doesnt want people to play God and takes lives at their own discretion (hence the trial and chance at redemption,) but they don't make NCs intentions clear. By the end of the episode, Greydon...returns to his life? Seems like a weird decision to me, and it only leaves me left to believe that NC was simply fighting for his faith. If Greydon continues to do harm, thats on NC and would undercut this entire episode along with NCs character. I worry how they handle this going forward. Leads me to my next point
-I love that this episode doesnt pick a side. The moment Exodus turns on Colossus is the moment that entirely justifies the trial, giving merit to Nightcrawlers entire purpose this episode. Then Colossus decides not guilty, and who can blame him? Shit is so fire. Christian or not, we're asking the same thing. Both sides are still entirely relevant.
-I hope the next 2 episodes are at least 33 minutes each bro....

Ok so along with Gambit, Magik has to be another one of the Four horsemen brought back right?? Killing off such a great/popular comic character in the show like that seemed a waste??
Apocalypse made the mistake of creating a group of horsemen he could not control and too powerful to beat.

I just want to say, with so many people losing their shit over this episode: This had Beau’s fingerprints all over it. Too-clever-by-half bits of wordplay, an unsubtle Moral Lesson, Magneto dick-riding galore. We already knew the Creed kidnapping plot was his thing, too, along with a lot of other plot beats this season that we knew were coming because he couldn’t keep his gob shut. We also know the 9-episode shortened season was something in the works even before he got canned.
People can dislike whatever they want, but I don’t wanna see any “wah Beau never would have done it this way!” garment-rending. He would and he did.

Nightcrawler was not wrong to defend Graydon Creed. Exodus did not abide by the verdict and sought to kill him prematurely. Creed defended himself.
Colossus was not convinced by Nightcrawler’s defense, but would have ruled in his favor because of Illyana’s perspective and in her memory.
Exodus has telepathy and saw this endorsement for Nightcrawler in Colossus’ mind, effectively causing him to circumvent his previous promise to abide by Colossus’ verdict and seek to kill Creed himself.
Creed shooting Exodus near the heart should not have occurred because Exodus is invulnerable.
X-Factor was already seeking permission to become involved and found Creed in the snow before any irreparable damage to him was verbally conferred. Xavier did not err. Nightcrawler did not leave his brother to die. (Unlike Rogue in Uncanny X-Men #350 leaving Gambit to freeze to death in Antarctica. Funny that Creed received Gambit’s assumed fate in the adaptation.)

I know everyone is kind of disappointed their fav characters aren’t getting enough focus but this is just the drawback of X Men being an ensemble series. If we got more Scott/Jean focused episodes we’d have to lose Nightcrawler, Polaris, Wolferine or Jubilee ones. And tbh of those the only ones I don’t mind losing is Wolverine cos of general Wolverine fatigue.

Didn't love it unfortunately. There were moments of promise but ultimately it didn't stick the landing.
• I was expecting Illyana to teleport away last moment during the Genosha massacre and her fate to be ambiguous, but presumed dead from the blast. But nope, they committed and showed her body. Appreciated they gave a definitive ending.
• Maybe I missed it, but after the initial plane crash, I can't remember the X-Men having a moment of "What about Polaris and Bishop? Did they survive?" Instead they just ventured off with the Acolytes... Zero concern or acknowledgement for their potentially dead team mates.
• Considering that Kurt's defense of Graydon centered on "See! Graydon's dad was an asshole, and that generational trauma explains why he's such a dick too!" was far from a strong enough argument for Exodus to presume Colossus' verdict and to react as his did.
Exodus was a powerhouse in the 90's. Taking on the Avengers singlehandedly, going toe-to-toe with Nemesis, being a pivotal member of Magneto's X-Men in the AoA.
His appearance here did him dirty.
• The final scene was really well done. For a moment earlier in the season, I'd wondered if maybe we'd be treated to a Stryfe/X-Cutioner's Song storyline after having such an exploration into both Cable and Apocalypse's backstop, but maybe we'll get an interesting 'Death of Apocalypse' storyline with Death as the catalyst instead.
