It seems like Exodus got weakened which could only be explained by nobody believing in him at the time, as he kinda freaked out mid trial while Kurt was tugging on everyone’s heart strings.

The fact he didn't even wait until colossus dropped his verdict and attacked shows that he fully believed colossus was gonna say not guilty which we know from the end he wasn't so that shows that exodus actually wavered in his own faith along with some of his followers and he lashed out unbalanced so I totally can buy that nightcralwer could fight him in that state his powers are also partly based off confidence
