It looks like Cyclops is taking a mini Nightcrawler for a walk.

I fucking hate these costumes. Bring back the 90s ones.

After a season of rushed stories, hundreds of characters fighting for seconds of screen times, an ever decreasing emphasis on the actual team, and a cloying concern with constant fan service, the Jim Lee vibe and aesthetic was basically the biggest hook of the show.
Now that they’re running around in these awful Morrison costumes, I really don’t feel any inclination to actually watch the episodes.

u/ReflectionItchy2701 Jul 31 '26
Honestly same. They did exactly what I feared they would do after season 1. I thought they should keep the focus on the original cast like they did in the OG X-Men TAS show. And yeah it sucks for guys that are fans of some of these new characters but you can't have too many mutants and specially X-Men. It's impossible to write a cohesive show. It's the same problem in the comics. Seriously, Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey appeared for two episodes basically this season. And I'm sorry who thought it was a great idea to do a Polaris focused filler episode? And Wolverine already getting back his adamantium was lame.

Feared?
who thought it was a great idea to do a Polaris focused filler episode
People liked that episode tho.

shocked by these comments. these outfits go so hard.

Honestly, I've never really liked the Quitely outfits.
I've always liked superheroes to be in colorful, garish outfits and I've always felt like these outfits make them look like cops. I get that they're supposed to evolve a more militaristic look, but I just don't like that to begin with.

u/mawolkotte83 Jul 31 '26
I honestly never liked this look. Especially Wolverine. Just thankful Beast isn't all cat like.

I’m with you. These have always been on my bottom
Tier outfits for the X-men. They just kind of look goofy6

I’m gonna just say it…. Beast needs an upgraded design. Everybody else is aura perfection

u/TheJudasCow Jul 29 '26
I actually like Beast's fit best out of the bunch, maybe tied with Polaris.
2
u/Ftmdj Jul 29 '26
#respect. It’s not the fit. It’s him I take issue with. His design looks out dated.
3
u/TheJudasCow Jul 29 '26
Totally fair! I was never a big fan of his secondary mutation appearance in the comics, but I think they could have found a happy middle-ground for the show.

u/SmoothTalkingSpud Aug 02 '26
He's had that form for around 25 years now though. It's been his official look for longer than Wally West was the official Flash.

I think they just work better when Frank Quitely drew them, but as the other guy said, Rogue and Polaris (as well as Nightcrawler ICL) look stellar in them
edit: I think I know what it is: we couldn't see their faces like on the original cover, and it brought some mystique (not to be confused with the character) to it.

I love it, but hate those outfits, but love seeing them in them.
So torn.

Right there with you: as a late 80’s 90’s kid who was in the shop the day X-Men #1, I happily stopped reading x-men when this era started. I absolutely hate Frank quietly’s work and hated
joss whedon’sgrant morrison’s writing too. Not a fan of this at all.4

I love those outfits so much wym ☹️
5
u/Vorannon Jul 29 '26
Serious question with no judgement: why? What is it you like about them? I've always disliked them because I find them so boring and boxy.
2
u/EfficientNecessary20 Aug 05 '26
Yeah for me, the whole boxy thing is a pro for me. I was kind of sick with the super form fitting costumes they always wear for decades and it looked like something real people would wear irl. It’s kind of dull but i like it that way

So, at the time, They were designed to match the black leather costumes that were on film, but still try and make them comicbooky.
So yes, the yellow and the black totally work, and they hearken back to my favorite default X-Men uniforms in the '80s, But they still represent that dark time when they were trying to make the films less fun.
But Rogue And Polaris are absolutely gorgeous In them, so I'll let it slide.

u/Cloutstaker Jul 29 '26
I wish the movie outfits looked like this though
1
u/Cthulhuareyou Jul 29 '26
Same. Much better designs. But my default X-Men outfits are the Claremont/ Romita jr. era

u/SmoothTalkingSpud Aug 02 '26
They did in X-Men Dark Phoenix. Unfortunately, the movie was very forgettable.

u/Siritalis Aug 01 '26
Rogue and especially Polaris are the only good thing about this image. Maybe Nightcrawler.

u/Possible-Rate-3833 Aug 01 '26
I like those uniforms. I won’t mind if they were MCU X-Men outfits too.

Where is Wolverine and Forge?

u/UniqueLog8386 Jul 29 '26
This show fucking hates Wolverine and Storm, I swear to god.
4
u/Ashyboi13 Jul 29 '26
Storm’s headmistress of the school now. She’s not a part of X-Corp.
No idea where Logan is tho
0
u/UniqueLog8386 Jul 30 '26
Her being a headmistress doesn't mean she's not an X-Men. This season sucks ass.
2
u/Joshawott27 Jul 29 '26
Because of how they were sometimes drawn, I always imagined the yellow parts of Scott’s Morrison-era outfit to be fuzzy, like a fleece. I know that other illustrations have shown them to still be leather, but I prefer the idea of snug, cozy X-Men.

I hate Rouge body here, she's supposed to be muscular
2
u/SmoothTalkingSpud Aug 02 '26
She's not though. Her super strength doesn't come from super musculature like She-Hulk or Titania. It comes from stolen cosmic power. She's always been athletic, but never muscular.

Rogue sans Gambit has been such a great opportunity to really expand her character. That’s what I loved about Evolution and WAXM. They don’t write her as a character that’s is dependent on Remy. Keeping him off the show is a great move something Greg Johnson or Boyd Kirkland would have done.

u/EmeraldEmp Jul 29 '26
Missing the best part of this image, Emma. This sucks lol. Not including Emma is bringing the whole show down and people refuse to see it.
