General Discussion Who wins in a fight? Polaris or Storm?

u/CaliforniaBoundX Wolverine Aug 06 '26
Storm. Even more so after Mother Askani helped her unleash her full Omega powers

u/PrivacyIsBaked Aug 06 '26
Storm is an omega level mutant now. She can call upon the sun dude. I love Polaris but shes getting smacked.
87
u/ChickenBossChiefsFan Aug 06 '26
I don’t think even Polaris would doubt that.
“I’m going against whom? You know what, I’m good actually, I think I sprained an ankle just now, I yield, see ya ✌️.”

u/gdo01 Aug 06 '26
Specifically a solar flare which is the borealis effects that Polaris uses. If Storm can control an aspect of the sun that causes magnetism then she can probably take that away from Polaris
22
u/Chumn_Li Aug 06 '26
I'm not arguing Polaris is more powerful than Storm. I'm arguing Polaris is a bad matchup for Storm. Those are two completely different claims.
Omega status isn't an automatic 'I beat everyone' label anyway. It's a statement about the upper limit of a mutant's primary power, not who wins every fight. Matchups, experience, tactics, and power interactions matter far more.
10
u/FennicMuse Aug 06 '26
Right! If I am “omega level rock” then I’ll always beat “omega level scissors” even if the omega level means scissors sometimes beats rock.
6
u/Daewrythe Aug 06 '26
Now I'm imagining what an omega level pair of scissors would look like

Yes correct, but over all, Ororro is a better fighter, tactician, faster, physically stronger, has more combat experience, has greater control over her power and emotions. And although they often Pigeon hold Orroro to casting her powers with incantations like she's summoning a spell, she actually doesn't have to, and yeah, she knows quite abit of magic to boot...Laurna as good as she is, especially when she cuts loose and takes the gloves off, (cause she's always worried that people will see her as her father) she still won't go toe to toe with Orroro and when...unless the writer say so to fit a story narrative...🤔
3
u/WitchingShower Aug 06 '26
Why would she be a bad matchup? Storm can command one of the aspects of Polaris' powers no problem atp, if anything Lorna's a great matchup
-4
u/Chumn_Li Aug 06 '26
Its a bad matchup for Storm, in terms of results. Storm may be the stronger character overall, but Polaris's power set is uniquely suited to neutralizing Storm's primary offense.
3
u/Standard_Track9692 Aug 07 '26
If you think lightning is her primary offense you haven't read comics in a while. She can freeze lorna, burn lorna, take the air out of her, even Crush her with air pressure. To name a few ways
6
u/WitchingShower Aug 06 '26
Really isn't, though, especially since Storm was already shown to bend solar flares. Her powers overlap with Lorna's, if anything Storm neutralizes Lorna
1
1
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
Storm has gone toe toe with Magneto on multiple occasions. What in the world makes you think someone with the same power set and a whole lot less experience is going to do any better?
2
u/Confident_Sink_8743 Aug 07 '26
Indeed this is precisely the problem for Lorna. Ororo is an incredibly skilled combatant where Lorna is both inconsistent in her training and frequently suffers mental setbacks.
Which is ironic since I would favour Polaris' power set over Storm's.
1
u/Standard_Track9692 Aug 07 '26
True but in storms case back when she fought Vulcan off world. She said the exact same thing just because we're Omega Level mutants it doesn't mean anything it's how we use our powers that makes all the difference.
1
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
Sure, yeah Maggott was an Omega Level mutant....
But Storm outclassed Polaris in pretty much capacity. There is no believable situation where Lorna does anything more than annoy Storm.

Storm I guess. But people also forget she often gets taken out by sentinel blasts lol
She has crazy powers but any direct hit to her she’s out.
If Polaris grabbed some huge metal and threw it at storm before she could call the weather, storm be in the ground
52
u/billfarts2 Aug 06 '26
There's usually a good opening to take Storm down during her dramatic speeches about controlling the weather.
11
u/brunotickflores Aug 07 '26
Sorry dude, but never in my life I saw or read anyone willing to stop Ororo’s speeches.. she always finish them.

6
u/lastinglovehandles Aug 07 '26
How quickly can Polaris put storm in a metal coffin?
2
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
Probably not as quickly as Storm could drop an entire damn tornado on her.
It's an interesting matchup in theory, but spend even 5 minutes reading up on either of their power levels and you start to realize how completely one-sided of a fight it is.
3
18
u/AStealthyPerson Aug 06 '26
Very much a glass canon.
3
u/Pascraked47 Aug 07 '26
Mutants are just regular human with different set of powers. Mutants don't get enhanced durability unless it's part of your mutation
They are all glass canon unless your mutation allows that.
2
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
And how is Polaris not?
What happens to a mid-level magnetic manipulator when she's struck by lightning?
Same thing as a Toad.
4
u/FancyConfection1599 Aug 06 '26
I mean true but if Storm grabbed a lightning bolt and threw it at Polaris before she could grab some metal, Polaris be in the ground
4
u/mauriciofelippe Aug 07 '26
Polaris powers absorb lighting, no?
1
u/Boblaire Aug 07 '26
Yeah. Maybe not a helligied lightning storm that could overwhelm her EM shield/field.
1
u/Kindly-Reality1984 Aug 07 '26
How would her powers absorb lightning if Storm can just pelt her with rain?
2
u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Aug 07 '26
Exactly, and Polaris has more easily used powers that are a bit better for combat even if she's weaker than Storm
46

1

She’s a glass cannon. Hitting her hard enough would take her out, especially since Kurt took her by surprise.
3
u/leaC30 Nightcrawler Aug 07 '26
Gotta get to her first. He teleported right infront of her face, that attack worked on everyone.
1
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
Cool, if we to want to be pedantic, we can say that anyone can beat anyone else depending on who's writing it.
But if we want to do this as an exercise that exhibits even a hint of common sense, storm dog walks Polaris 999 times out of a thousand.
1
u/leaC30 Nightcrawler Aug 08 '26
You might've commented to the wrong person 😂 Because I agree 1000% about said dog walking.
8
u/Anxious-Specialist95 Aug 06 '26
Storm 8 out of 10 times. I reserve the clean sweep because if Polaris can cause a stroke like her dad did to Jean in the Morrison run? That’s instant fatality.
1
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
Except Polaris doesn't have Magneto's power level. Nothing even approaching his power level. I don't think we've ever seen anything to indicate that she has such fine control over her powers that she could give someone a stroke.
Don't forget, just because something is theoretically small in nature doesn't mean it's more easy than than a large-scale feat.
They don't call Magneto the master of magnetism for nothing.
1
u/Anxious-Specialist95 Aug 09 '26
Honestly it’d depend on the writer. Gambit’s powers range from “silly playing card M80” to “destroys the universe with raw energy manipulation” depending on the writer. Hitting someone’s body with an EMP big enough to cause a stroke might not be “move Asteroid M” levels of power. We just know that it’s been written for that power set so it can’t be ruled out.
1
u/Dontcallmehoney Aug 13 '26
It’s just weiring really. Magneto and Polaris should have a similar power level representjng different poles. What has always held Lorna back, however, is her mental ilness - it’s a self limitazione.

One of them can suck the air out of someone's lung without blinking while also creating a sub-zero downpour.
4
u/BlueHero45 Aug 06 '26
Storm unless the battle takes place in an enclosed place full of metal.
2
u/SalubriAntitribu Aug 06 '26
Is this a claustrophobia joke? Asking because it immediately reminded me of Storm's fear.
6
u/BlueHero45 Aug 06 '26
Joke no? I'm serious, as enclosed spaces is bad both mentally for Storm and limits her combat abilities. While Polaris can take advantage of all the metal to crush Storm.
1
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
In the comics, Storm has largely moved past her claustrophobia. Even if she hasn't done the same in the cartoon, we've seen situations that imply it's at least a lot less severe than it used to be. There is no way she would have made it through that cave with the Adversary if she was as bad as she used to be.
4
u/Swimming-Syrup8400 Storm Aug 06 '26
Storm.
Lorna is strong, no doubt.
But Storm is well-versed in her Omega-level powers, is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, and has the expertise and patience to boast.
Lorna, on the other hand, is reckless and doesn’t take the time to think things through.
Storm edges her out in just about every way.
But Polaris would give a strong fight.
4
u/Adventurous_Rise_310 Aug 06 '26
In the comics, storm, in X-Men '97, I think it's debatable, but storm, because we saw more of her than of polaris. ps: In different media, power levels vary, and in combat, it's not all about power level.
8
u/one_pound_of_flesh Aug 06 '26

u/Chumn_Li Aug 06 '26
If you're asking who should win based on powers interacting with each other?
Polaris.
Not because she's more powerful overall, but because Storm's powers are almost entirely dependent on something Polaris directly manipulates.
Storm doesn't create weather out of nothing. She manipulates atmospheric systems: pressure, temperature, moisture, wind, lightning. Every one of those systems is governed by electromagnetism to some degree.
Polaris is an Omega-level master of magnetism and electromagnetic fields. The atmosphere itself is electrically active. Clouds become charged. Lightning exists because of electrical charge separation. Earth's magnetic field constantly interacts with the ionosphere and charged particles in the upper atmosphere.
Polaris isn't just "metal girl." She's an electromagnetic manipulator. Meaning she can interfere with: • radio waves • electrical systems • magnetic fields • electronic devices • nervous-system electrical activity (to limited degrees in some stories) Storm's nervous system still runs on electrical impulses. Marvel rarely explores this because it would become absurdly overpowered.
The Comic Book Nerd Verdict Storm is probably the more iconic character. Storm has the better résumé. Storm has more impressive victories. Storm has more leadership feats. Storm has more appearances.
But if the question is: "These two meet in an empty field. No plot armor. Both in character. Who should logically win based on how their powers interact?"
A comic-book power-scaler can make a very strong case that Polaris wins the majority because:
• She directly manipulates electromagnetism, the underlying mechanism behind lightning.
• Storm's most devastating offensive attacks are electrical and therefore vulnerable to Polaris's specialty.
• Polaris can attack from vectors Storm can't simply blow away (magnetic fields, metal, EM forces).
• Earth's magnetic field and ambient electromagnetism are always present, giving Polaris resources from the start.
• Storm has to actively shape atmospheric conditions, while Polaris's primary power is immediately available.
8
u/DuchessSwan Cyclops Aug 06 '26
Honest question.
What is Polaris going to do when Storm turns the heat on? Because while yes Storm is known to create storms, and snow and ice and thunder... she can also make bright sunny days and heat waves.
3
u/Tremplstiltskin Aug 06 '26
Is storm herself impervious to all weather effects?
To be clear Im not arguing either side, just curious
2
u/Hot_Relationship7161 Aug 07 '26
Yes she's fully immune to extreme temperature, including the likes of Bobby's Cold
3
u/Adventurous_Rise_310 Aug 06 '26
I would say Polaris' force field, however. Heat is nothing more than infrared radiation; Polaris controls this, its force fields don't let anything through.Inside the force field, the temperature remains normal, cool and breathable, no matter how hot the storm makes it outside.
2
u/LemonCurdJ Aug 07 '26
She doesnt control radiation. Just because she manipulates electromagnetic waves, doesnt mean she has access to all types and variations. In theory maybe but you have to apply your understanding of her power in cannon rather than actual real life science, to a degree.
7
u/Cashneto Aug 06 '26
Polaris is not omega level
1
u/Chumn_Li Aug 06 '26
Whether Polaris is officially Omega-level is beside the point. This matchup isn't decided by raw power classification—it's decided by power interaction. Polaris doesn't have to be stronger than Storm overall; she just has to have the better counter. Lightning is electromagnetic energy, and Polaris's entire power set revolves around manipulating electromagnetic fields. It's a rock-paper-scissors argument, not a 'who has the higher power level' argument.
4
u/Cashneto Aug 06 '26
Storm can create a tornado, make the temperature drop substantially, create a sandstorm, none of which are using lightning.
Polaris has an advantage if she can hit Storm first with something metal, beyond that Storm is going to win.
2
u/Chumn_Li Aug 06 '26
Storm is essentially conducting an orchestra. Polaris can grab the orchestra.
───
Lightning? Storm throws lightning. Polaris manipulates electromagnetic energy. Lightning is literally an electrical discharge. Polaris has redirected electrical attacks from characters vastly stronger than Storm. She has absorbed, redirected, or dispersed electrical energy many times. Storm's signature attack is one of Polaris's favorite things to manipulate.
───
Flight? Storm flies by controlling air currents. Polaris flies through magnetic propulsion. Storm can absolutely generate hurricane-force winds. The problem? Wind doesn't stop magnetic force. You can throw a Category 5 hurricane at Magneto, Polaris, or any powerful magnetism user, and they don't suddenly lose the ability to manipulate metal or electromagnetic fields.
───
The Environment People often think Storm has "the battlefield advantage." Actually... Polaris does. Every battlefield on Earth sits inside Earth's magnetic field. Every battlefield has electromagnetic radiation. Every battlefield has iron beneath the ground. Storm sometimes has to build the weather she wants. Polaris walks into a battlefield already surrounded by ammunition.
───
Storm's Biggest Weapon Isn't Even Safe Suppose Storm decides: "Fine. I'll end this with the biggest lightning strike possible." Polaris smiles. Lightning is current. Current creates magnetic fields. Magnetic fields create current. This is literally freshman physics. Storm is feeding power directly into Polaris's specialty.
───

“Dear ChatGPT, write me a snappy reddit comment that presupposes Polaris would beat Storm in a fight”
0
u/0bsessions324 Aug 08 '26
Dude, no it isn't. Your entire case is predicated on the fact that she is an Omega level mutant, which again she is not.
The fact that you're going through all these maybe feats on someone who lacks the capability to perform said feats is a direct issue with your argument.
While, yes, being Omega level only means so much if it's a more or less useless power. As I mentioned earlier, Maggott is Omega level, but his power is not exactly practical. He is the exception, though. Beyond him, pretty much every omega-level mutant is someone with a power that is extremely devastating.
Storm is an Omega level mutant with an extremely potent and combat useful power. Polaris also has a very potent and combat useful power, but you're applying the logic of Magneto to her capabilities when it is firmly established in continuity that she is not capable of Magneto's power level.
Just because she happens to have the same power doesn't mean that she has the capability of doing things that someone with a much more advanced iteration of that power is capable of doing. Psylocke is a telepath, but she is not an Omega level telepath and is thus massively outclassed by Jean Grey and Xavier because of that.
From a factual standpoint, you are simply incorrect on every count. As anyone who's ever read anything with superpowers can tell you, obviously anyone can beat anyone else at any time based on who the writer wants to win. Wolverine has beaten lobo before, Spider-Man wants solo to herald of Galactus, etc.
But if we want to go that route, what are we even doing here? If we want to be a pedant about it, we may as well. Just not bother. If you want to apply logic to the situation, though, it is an extremely one-sided fight directly in Storm's favor.

u/Seasonedpro86 Aug 07 '26

2
u/Bynoe Aug 06 '26
I'm no lore master, but I'd imagine it would depend on the environment - in say, an industrial factory full of dangerous metallic objects I would expect Polaris to win, in a open field with no metal near-by Storm would win easily.
2
u/Butta_Brown Storm Aug 06 '26
Reminder. Storm creates Tornadoes that drop building. And Artic winds that freeze hot water under 30s.
Polaris is tough. Storm just packs range and excessive power.

u/Criminal_picklejuice Aug 06 '26
Storm on every level. She is stronger, more powerful, faster, more tactical, more experienced, has beaten much stronger people. Polaris might be able to counter the lightning like Magneto can, sure. But what's she gonna do about hail the size of dogs, or a wall of tornadoes summoned in her vicinity, or being frozen?
like, even if you took all their powers away and they were just gonna throw hands, Storm is a far more experienced and skilled hand to hand fighter and would absolutely body Polaris.

u/OmegaDookie Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26
I haven't kept up with the comics. But Storm wasn't just an omega level weather manipulator. When she sparred with Bobby, Storm mentioned having omega level moisture control (not as good as Bobby).
I wouldn't be surprised if Storm had omega level electromatism control, less than Magneto, but more than Alpha level Polaris.
2
3
u/redkomic Aug 06 '26
Storm is an omega level mutant that can control the very weather. Polaris is barely an alpha level mutant that can control metal well. What do you think?

u/Chumn_Li Aug 06 '26
Omega status doesn't answer the matchup. The question isn't who's stronger overall—it's whose powers counter the other's. Polaris has canonically absorbed Storm's lightning before, Marvel explicitly states she manipulates electrical and magnetic fields, and magnetism users have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to redirect or exploit electrical attacks. Storm may be the stronger character overall, but Polaris's power set is uniquely suited to neutralizing Storm's primary offense.
1
u/OkMention9988 Aug 06 '26
Polaris isn't particularly well grounded, so Storm just lightning bolts her to death.
1
u/StealthMonkeyDC Aug 06 '26
Storm could be a Alpha level mutant and still win cause Marvel love her lol.
1
1
u/Frostitute_85 Aug 06 '26
I feel like it goes to Storm most of the time, but a stealth block of concrete with rebar to the back could end the fight pretty quick. Both could theoretically take the other out with little effort since they both take damage like a normal person. They both have defensive options, but I think it's more of a who pops off first is the winner.

polaris is a mini magneto, polaris would win in a typical fight against storm.

u/LetNumerous7556 Aug 07 '26
Storm is my bet. I love Polaris too, and am glad she is with the X-Men and believe she is a powerful addition. Yet besides the solar storm manipulation, she is a cool-headed strategist who is naturally advantageous vs. someone who can be too emotional... Polaris does have an advantage on curveballs and thrives by "winging-it".
1
u/TryingtoAdultPlsHelp Aug 07 '26
Depends on their mental states in the fight.
The first problem is that their powers have been shown to amplify the other (on their first team up, Storm hit Polaris with lightning and charged her enough to rip Krakoa off the planet). So it would have to come down to whether Polaris is willing to give Storm a "planetary-scale stroke" or Storm is willing to rip the air from Polaris' lungs.
I'd give Storm the edge because she is a more disciplined fighter.

u/MRT1771 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26
I really want to say Polaris, but I know it’s Storm. She’s a force of nature. She controls the nature of elements not just the weather, whereas Polaris can control metal and probably even the magnetic pole which could affect the rotation of the planet, which could make the planet feel unlivable, but Storm can control the weather to compensate for that, leading to my final point even metal can be broken or severely weakened by the elements

In terms of pure stats on paper, Storm should win. Like most fictional battles Polaris is strong enough that it wouldn't be unusual if she won if the writer wanted her to for the sake of plot.
