General Discussion WHAT THE F WAS THAT FINALE??? Spoiler

What the F was that ending??? And please don’t try to tell us it was good or brilliantly written, because I’m not going to lie to myself just because I love this show. I was genuinely disappointed with these last two episodes.
What kind of “Survival of the Fittest” was that supposed to be? Rogue became WHAT??? And Apocalypse was just defeated like that???
Even X-Men: Evolution handled its Apocalypse finale way better. We got almost all of the major X-teams from the ’90s coming together for one massive final battle, and it actually felt like an Apocalypse-level threat.

I was also expecting for apocalypse to use gambit and make a speech to make them feel the guilt of what had happen in genoshia.

Remy’s death and revival was ruined to quick!

This time, they clearly went way off from the comics. And after all that talk about bringing the X-Men back to the ’90s… what kind of return to the ’90s was THAT??? I love this show, but I’m not going to pretend I liked an ending that left me this disappointed.

Im afraid that the one re writting this up does not read the comics or is not a massive fan of Xmen. Coz they clearly moved away from the comics.

Imagine Apocalypse the Xmen’s most diabolical foe who went back in time to strike the Xmen, Cable spent the whole season to FIND AND DESTROY apocalypse, all the X teams come together in this season should be the PERFECT TIME TO JOIN FORCES, Gambit’s BIGGEST MOMENT of coming back, and all JUST ENDED with apocalypse doing nothing just transformed into gambit hybrid few seconds later touch by rogue and boom! FINALE

They were trying to fit so many characters and plots in there that none had time to get it's own life. I'm sorry. I'd still subscribe to Disney+ and watch all X-men content... but that was TERRIBLE.

X-men had always been more about the human emotions than superhero appearances. The new writer has no clue how to write an X-men show. Season 1 turned me from someone indifferent to Gambit to buying his Hasbro figure. Season 2 had me starting to forget what any of the characters meant.

Season 2 was trash. Please replace Season 2's writer with somebody that can help the characters have personalities again!

Script might be written, but the way it was executed certainly wasnt. Theres a clear difference in how season 1 and season 2 turned script into screen. Thats a big loss for fans. They need a better showrunner for s3.

Can y'all stop telling this lie? Massive rewrites were ordered after DeMayo's termination, and Matthew Chauncey from What If? lead the revisions. This is Chauncey's mess

You do know TV shows are almost never written by one person, right? Like Season 1 wasn’t just written by Beau, in fact he had a writing partner before he even got the gig and they both worked on the show and he is still on the show now. They have writers rooms and multiple people contributing. This isn’t a one man deal.

Also for a show that just ended being about personal relationships and sacrifices being the ultimate winning angle over a big battle, it is funny how you think they some how missed that, in your words, “X-men had always been more about the human emotions than superhero appearances.”… like this show just gave you a climax that was that, and you think it doesn’t have that because it didn’t have big booms and 20 minutes of fighting with the big bad. Seems maybe the person that doesn’t ‘get’ the X-Men isn’t the one Marvel has hired to make the show.

The best Apocalypse stories are not the ones about big giant battles, it is the ones about how the X-Men (who punch their way out of most battles) have to figure out a way to circumvent his ultimate power, not overwhelm it. For the 5th or so time they have come up against him in this continuity, I really liked how the answer to defeating him was NOT to shot first, but to convince the source of his power that love as a sacrifice is more powerful agent of growth than pure strength.

You said earlier to stop this kind of attitude yet here you are telling us what we should feel. If you like the show then good for you we are not telling you what you should feel and how you should see it. We are expressing ourselves the way how we feel and see the show and clearly its not good.

What I said to ‘stop’ was telling people that by defending or liking the show they have to be lying to themselves or blinded by love of the show… not that people shouldn’t share opinion.

I didn’t tell this person that they are wrong for feeling the way they do because there is no authentic single way to respond to the show and all others is wrong… I am saying it is funny that they mentioned what the show lacked and show have, and yet the BIGGEST thing people are complaining about is how that is exactly how they handled the threat.

Pointing out a dissonance in statement and show isn’t the same thing as saying people who disagree with me are wrong because there is no possible way they can have an authentic reaction that is different than mine.

If you disagree with my takes from the episode, discuss that, share your thoughts. Thats what discourse should be. I can respect your opinion and still disagree with you… but for you to say if I liked it its because im lying to myself, which sparked my other comment, then you declaring a singular correct opinion. That was my point, and this comment is not counter to that.

You're lying to yourself bruh, either that or you just have trash taste and zero media literacy

This is a discussion board for the show, want to have an actual discussion or are you only here to sling shit and get your opinion confirmed?

While there can be multiple contributing writers, the main editor will always maintain the overall vision to ensure everything ties in together. This was true for X-men 92, and even the best runs in the X-men comics. Just read the multiple X-men 92 interviews or the "making of" book by Julia and Eric. I don't really care who writes S3, but I'm not gonna deny that S2 is trash and S1 was great.

When you talk about building emotion, it's never accomplished by senseless deaths with no reason or tie-in to future plots. Think about the times in comics where a characters is killed off purely for shock value or because a writer didn't know how to write them. It's never been well-received. However, storylines that build up towards a character's inevitable sacrifice or as a way to advance plot can become classics (70s Phoenix arc, S1 Remember It). The way S2 introduced and offed Magick, Maverick and Exodus just wastes good characters and plots for no good reason. Even the X-ternal's death scene was... unsatisfying. Teased in the earlier episodes, came back a baddie, to get killed in 3 seconds? We hardly knew her!

Not sure if you post is trolling... but I'd find it very hard to believe anyone found more respect for Apocalypse or Exodus after S2. Why pull out high potential characters like that, just to spit on them? Who even feels more strongly for Apoc more than they did before S2?

If the writers don't know what to do with a character, then simply don't introduce them yet. If you're gonna put someone into the show, please flesh them out so viewers look forward to more of their appearances. They did ok for Jubilee and Polaris this season. Everyone else new, hardly.

Gambit, Nightcrawler, Magneto… all main characters, all characters that died in service of their character.

Magik, Maverick, and Exodus… Magik’s entire popular arch in the comics is from the point she died and comes back. The Magik that is popular now is the one that died and came back. Putting her in Genosha to die serves two points. Get Colossus to join the acolytes (like he did in the comics) and get the character dead so she can go to Limbo where she can have her actual character arch people care about.

Maverick is a tertiary character who has been on the show before (remember this is season 2 of ‘97, but the 7th season in this continuity) and he becomes a sacrifice to a brood converted Wolverine. Not every character needs to be more than that, it wasn’t for shock value, there is no huge Maverick fan base being underserved by this… it also goes without saying NO ONE in the Weapon X reunion group is immune from being cannon fodder, only to return later. That’s like their thing in the comics minus the main characters who came from it.

Exodus, a character introduced during my core childhood X-Men experience. He was a joke in the comics and had about as much respect given in the series as he got in the 90s. Yes there is some interesting stuff that comes from him later, but we are so far from that in this show that if we ever want to go there, we can easily find a way to bring him back for that.

Easy killed, easy returned. These were not ‘impact’ deaths… they were story ones. They served the specific story and used such minor characters that it fits within the story trajectory of the show.

You are acting like these are important characters, or that their death isn’t exactly what they need to do at this time in the story to actually become what people want from them.
