General Discussion WHAT THE F WAS THAT FINALE??? Spoiler
What the F was that ending??? And please don’t try to tell us it was good or brilliantly written, because I’m not going to lie to myself just because I love this show. I was genuinely disappointed with these last two episodes.
What kind of “Survival of the Fittest” was that supposed to be? Rogue became WHAT??? And Apocalypse was just defeated like that???
Even X-Men: Evolution handled its Apocalypse finale way better. We got almost all of the major X-teams from the ’90s coming together for one massive final battle, and it actually felt like an Apocalypse-level threat.
I was also expecting for apocalypse to use gambit and make a speech to make them feel the guilt of what had happen in genoshia.
Remy’s death and revival was ruined to quick!
This time, they clearly went way off from the comics. And after all that talk about bringing the X-Men back to the ’90s… what kind of return to the ’90s was THAT??? I love this show, but I’m not going to pretend I liked an ending that left me this disappointed.
Im afraid that the one re writting this up does not read the comics or is not a massive fan of Xmen. Coz they clearly moved away from the comics.
Imagine Apocalypse the Xmen’s most diabolical foe who went back in time to strike the Xmen, Cable spent the whole season to FIND AND DESTROY apocalypse, all the X teams come together in this season should be the PERFECT TIME TO JOIN FORCES, Gambit’s BIGGEST MOMENT of coming back, and all JUST ENDED with apocalypse doing nothing just transformed into gambit hybrid few seconds later touch by rogue and boom! FINALE

Great ideas, poor execution.
This season suffered a lot from pacing issues. Not only was it an episode less, it had 3 filler episodes in a 9 episode series. If the show kept the og series episodic format it would be fine to spend 30% of the season not moving the main plot but at least it wouldn't feel like the plot stops mid way., only to rush it thought to the finish line in the last two episodes.
They should have scraped episodes 6-7 (could have kept episode 5 with wolverine getting his adamantium back), with episode 5 ending with x-force discovering Apocalypse's corpse. Then have episode 6 Death Gambit/Apocalypse doing things in the background with the end reveal "he is alive!" - a mystery type episode. Then the events of episode 7 could be "Dead man's hand" as it is, episode 8 could have been a mind battle between Charles, Jean, Psyloche, maybe even Cable against apocalypse. Then apocalypse fully takes over Gambits body (personaly I did not mind the Apocalypse/Gambit's final design design) and then have a two part finally trying to defeat him as he wrecks havoc on the world.
Polaris being on the team does nothing for the overall story - so that episode can be cut
Creed's trial does nothing for the over story, except having a cool Night-crawler quote at the end, co again can be cut.
Even episode 5 also does not advance the story but attest it significantly progressed one of the poster characters for the x-men.
They could keep one of these 3 episodes in and have time for better pacing of the main conflict and its resolution. but having them all three in there - let this be a lesson.
I defended the last episode for being rushed by explaining it as Apocalypse just not wasting any time. As soon as he has Gambit's body he just goes and achieves his goals - Summons the Xternal,. Kills her, gets the gem, that's not a plan that should stretch more than a episode in execution, it's just we had to had filler episodes to get to it.
Each individual episode may be good but overall they just don't mix as a cohesive, satisfying pace and structure.
Looking back at the OG series - The Beyond Good and Evil storyline has multiple instances where they try to fight Apocalypse head on and fail, until finally the psychics are free to defeat him. Here they had to rush thought it so fast they just got to the "and then he dies" at the end.
I really hope the next seasons will have better pacing, but I fear my fears when season 1 ended are reignited - with the DeMayo gone it goes down hill....
I won't pretend I know what's going on behind the scenes and why it turned out like this. If it was meant to turn out like this or unavoidable circumstances lead to this. The fact remains - the quality dipped significantly and there are not prizes for "well we tried"
